"Happy Birthday, Kija." She held a present out to him, a little messily wrapped, but truly better wrapped than Yona realized she could manage before.

"You didn't have to, Princess. Besides your birthday's tomorrow, and..." Kija was at a bit of a loss for words, a little unsure how to respond. It's not everyday that the person you had waited your whole life for gets a gift for you, let alone one for your birthday, when hers is so close to yours.

"And yours is today." Yona told him simply and matter of factly. She could be direct sometimes in ways that Kija never quite expects.

"Still, you didn't have to." He was trying to manage to say near enough words, to convey that it wasn't necessary, though hopefully without making it sound like he wasn't grateful, because he was, he was very grateful!

"I wanted to. We're friends, so..." Yona shrugged; title seemed to mean nothing to her. Her authority as Hiryuu to the Dragons didn't matter to her, just the fact that she loved them, that they were her friends, that they were sort of like an odd family of sorts, mattered to her. She did her best to not exercise any authority over them whatsoever. It was nice, but never what Kija would have expected.

He loves her all the more for it though.

"We are." He affirmed, and even though his heart did a little off tempo thumping, it was true. They were friends; they are friends. And despite everything that is even more amazing than Kija could have hoped for. He expected to bow at her feet, and he still sometimes did, but it wasn't in the way that he expected. Instead of a master and servant, they are friends, and his loyalty is that that is strengthened by friendship, and he loves her. That much is true, and also completely unexpected.

Regardless of what he holds in his hands, he already knows that it will truly be perfect. Because she picked it out, and she picked it out with him in mind. That is more than enough.
