Agent Kojima didn't trust Corporal Shepherd, that much was certain. Especially what branch of the military he allegedly served in. The Hazardous Environment Combat Unit was all but eliminated after the Black Mesa Incident, anybody knew that. So how was he still in uniform?

"You're skeptical, aren't you?" The Corporal asked, as if reading Kojima's mind.

"Obviously." Kojima responded. "Wasn't the H.E.C.U.-"

"-Completely dismantled three years ago?" Adrian finished. "Yeah, it was. 'Cept I was left in the dark about that. Literally. Some G-man in a blue suit got me outta Black Mesa before it was blown sky-high. Woulda thanked him if he hadn't left me in some sorta stasis for the last three years. I'm still not sure why he brought me back out, but hey, I'm not complaining."

"So you were also radio silent for three years?" Kojima questioned.

"Also?"

"Dr. Gordon Freeman. Surely you know him."

"Yeah, didn't see much of the guy while I was there, he was hoppin' into some portal in the Lambda Labs. I was supposed to kill him, but a feeling in my gut told me not to. I also figured I shouldn't follow him. But what about him?"

"He's somewhere here too. Not sure where."

"Interesting..." Adrian muttered. "Well, we should probably get moving."

"Moving where?"

In response, Adrian simply tossed him a pipe wrench, Glock, and a few magazines. "Underground." He responded. "There's a Resistance base somewhere down there that you can go to. I'll help you get there, and you're on your own."

A Resistance base? This quickly? How long had he-

"Two days." Adrian stated. "You're wondering how long you were out, right? I can see it in your eyes. Now come on, we're burning daylight. Not like there's much getting through this hell of a sky."

And the Corporal said no more as he turned to leave the warehouse, not even looking back to see if Kojima was following him.

As the duo left the warehouse, Agent Kojima couldn't help but stare in shock at the destruction around him. Buildings were in disrepair, bodies laying here and there.

"Batshit, isn't it?" Adrian asked. "The amount of destruction just a couple of kids and their toys can cause."

"A couple of kids?"

"Don't tell me. Didn't you see the broadcast too, Kojima?"

"How did you-"

"I read your ID, dumbass."

"Oh."

"Yeah. They were serious, those kids. While I don't know anything for certain, I've got reason to believe they're the ones controlling these vermin Monokumas." Adriant said, whipping out a Desert Eagle and firing a perfect shot right into the red eye of a passing Monokuma, dropping the bear to the floor and causing it to explode.

"Right..." Kojima muttered. "About this 'G-man', what did he look like?"

"Uncanny." Adrian responded. "Pale, wrinkly skin, blue eyes so bright I could've sworn they were glowing. Oily black hair. Usually carrying a briefcase. It's not that he doesn't look human, it's just... He doesn't look entirely human."

"Got it. Anyway, how are you planning to get underground?"

"There's a subway station nearby, saw it on the first day I was here, before everything went to shit. Should be right around here somewhere..."

A loud explosion and sounds of something crumbling caught the duo's attention.

"What the hell?" Kojima asked.

"Sounds like something collapsed. Judging by the lack of further impacts, it might be a bridge."

"Great..." Kojima sighed. "One less way outta here."

"Great." Adrian mimicked. "One less place for these Mono-cunts to hide."

"You really don't like them, do you?"

"Obviously. Aren't you a Future Foundation agent? You should feel the same way."

"Fair point, Corporal. How much farther until this sub-station?"

"Right around the cor- Oh God damn it..." A pile of rubble blocked their way, without any method to pass it. "Something must've fallen on it at some point. Come on, there's another entrance nearby."

"How nearby?"

Adrian simply pointed to a small alcove leading downwards, brought to a dead end by a shutter.

"Oh."

"Yeah."

Walking on over, Kojima attempted to lift the shutter, however, it didn't budge.

"Don't worry. I got this." Adrian stated, pulling out a combat knife. "Cover me."

"Got it."

Kojima walked back up the stairs, holding his borrowed Glock in one hand, pipe wrench in the other. He took a few more steps, waiting to see if any Monokumas would appear. None did. However, a strange man that looked eerily similar to the 'G-man' that Corporal Shepherd described earlier was standing atop a few cargo holders. The man adjusted his tie with his free hand before turning and walking out of Kojima's sight.

"Hey!" Kojima shouted, rushing towards where the man was. "Stop right there!"

Launching himself up a conveniently placed ladder, Kojima ran after the suited man, however, when he turned the corner, the man was gone. But, the door of the neighboring construction site latched shut, and so, Kojima sprinted for it.

Flinging the door open and walking inside, the suited man was nowhere to be found. However, a kid wearing a Monokuma helmet sprung up from behind a window, laughing at Kojima before dropping out of sight.

"Damn it!" Kojima muttered. "Who was that guy? No, it doesn't matter. I should head back to the Corporal..."

However, as he turned to leave, a small, round projectile flew out from behind the wall. It beeped for about a second before blowing up, however, it didn't seem to damage Kojima.

"Grenades?!"

Monokumas wearing bomb-squad outfits, lugging around barrels of grenades then leaped from the beams above, all ready to throw.

"An ambush, of course... Alright. If I die, I'm going down swinging!"

Rolling out of the way of the first grenade, Kojima raised his gun and sent out a few bullets at his attacker, hitting it right in its exposed face, the bear dropped dead, and exploded soon after.

The Monokuma next to him prepared to throw another grenade, however, he swung his pipe wrench right into its red eye, sending it crumbling to the ground. Another grenade landed at his foot, but he managed to pick it up before it exploded, tossing it back to its sender. While the bear's armor protected it from the explosion, it didn't protect it from the spray of bullets Kojima sent at it before the smoke cleared.

Sighing, Kojima looked around. No Monokumas left. He'd survived the ambush, somehow. Loading a fresh clip into his weapon, he walked back towards where he'd left Corporal Shepherd, unaware of the suited man watching him from behind the window the kid revealed himself behind.

"Very impressive, Mister Kojima... Very impressive indeed..."

The man turned and walked out of the window's sight, vanishing into thin air.
