Author's Note: This is my Second fanfic, my first was 13 years ago and I tried my hand again at writing a fanfic.
I love Bing Bang Theory and hated how it turned out after season 5. This my take from season3.
Sheldon will be OOC and he will go through lot of changes.
Chapter 1
Arctic expedition has changed everything for DR. Sheldon cooper. He knows he is not always easy to be around and he also know he has his issues with touching people, emotions and social protocol. After going through all his life without friends, he thought he made friends with Leonard, Raj, Howard and Penny, looks like he is wrong.
Sheldon POV:
It all started when I came back from arctic, elated that I had proven String theory, then Raj and Howard have told me that it was all false and the results he got were false positives due to an electric can opener. He is devastated and felt betrayed, his whole life was in pursuit of science, now because of this betrayal, he will be laughing stock of the university and scientific world. When I went to Leonard to question him, I see him and Penny in middle of a kiss.
I cleared my throat and asked him "Raj and Howard told me about Can opener and False positives, Is it true?"
"Yes, Sheldon you were be coming unbearable and I thought positive results might cheer you up. I also missed Penny and wanted to be back." He replied while leering at Penny and ignoring me.
I felt angry and defeated and rushed to my room and locked myself in.
Normal POV:
Penny didn't know what happed and why Sheldon was angry, and question Leonard on the same. When he explained what happened at Arctic, she was angry with him, but tried to reason herself that it was just a prank and understood that Sheldon was angry and upset, like a baby he was, she decided to have a word with him. She knows this will irritate him, but he is always doing the same to her.
Knock Knock Knock "Sheldon"

He opened the door but doesn't look at her, he looked as if in deep thought.
"What can I do for you Penny?"
"I just wanted to check how you are Sweety I know what the boys did was wrong and that you are angry, but locking yourself will not help, you need to come out" said Penny.
He looked at me as he met me for the first time, she doesn't know why this made her feel uncomfortable, then started talking.
"Penny, what do you want me to do? Shall I forget what happened and move on like nothing happened? Forget that my so-called friends betrayed me and science. I don't have anything to show and I missed Comicon he asked
"Sweety, I know you feel betrayed and they might have taken it a little too far with the prank, but they are your friends, if you don't patch up, who will take you to work, comic store and bring your food?
Sheldon POV:
For the first time after long time, I felt alone, I was alone while I was in Texas or Germany during my college and university, but I had my goal of achieving Nobel and didn't feel any need to make friends. But now, I feel like I no longer have friends and my goal look improbable now, with me being disgraced.
When Penny came to my room, I expected her to side with Leonard and other, after all Leonard is her boyfriend. I have not expected how she beliefs that I can't function without them. This shows me how little, she knows me or tried understanding me.
I suddenly have a brain wave, I had enough with everyone thinking that I can't survive without them. I think it is time to make changes, to remove toxicity from my life. In Science nothing remains constant and always evolving. I think somewhere I became constant and stopped evolving. I know evolution is not simple, it took humanity millions of years to evolve into our current forms, but with my high IQ, I know that I can change and evolve and a decision is made.
Normal POV:
Penny was waiting for Sheldon to respond, she was standing here for last 5 mins and can see various emotions running on his face, first Anger, confusion, anger again and then finally realization. After which he turned towards me and started speaking.
"Miss. Teller, thank you for your observations and your confidence, that I will not be able to survive without my so-called friends. You gave me a lot to think about, if you are okay, I want to go back to sleep."
Penny was shocked, Sheldon never caller as Miss. Teller, no one call her that, everyone called her Penny.
"Sheldon, why are you calling me Miss. Teller, you always called me Penny, why the sudden change?"
"Miss. Teller, I used to call you Penny when I have considered you as a friend, however as you have shown that you only see me as a neighbor and not a friend. I decided to follow the social protocol and call you accordingly."
"Sheldon, why do you feel that I'm not your friend, I'm your friend"
"Miss. Teller, friends don't betray each other. I need to go to ensure I follow my REM cycles. Good day."
Sheldon has closed his door, he said we are not friends. I know I should have tried talking some more, but I have decided to leave him and went to my apartment. I see Leonard waiting for me. I have not shared our discussion with Leonard and told him it is time to sleep.
