King Gibbs had reigned over the country of Meadth for many years. His life had been one of legend; a great warrior, wise king, loving husband (mostly), and understanding father. His daughters were his pride and joy, all of them different — unique. And none of them had the same mother. During his life, King Gibbs had five wives, one was killed, two were divorced, one was executed, and one survived.

The first person that Gibbs had married was named Shannon. She was the love of his life, the standard he put all his subsequent wives against. They were married for ten years, and she was a queen beloved by all. Shannon gave Gibbs a daughter, Princess Kelly. Kelly was immediately her father's favorite person in the world.

One day, when Princess Kelly was eight years old, King Gibbs had been on the war front, for they were in the middle of a land dispute with the neighboring country. That day changed the course of the kingdom. An assassin snuck into the castle and slit the throats of the queen and princess. Gibbs was informed by a carrier pigeon the next day, after which he returned to the castle to mourn for his family. For a year the castle hung with black drapes, signaling the king's mourning.

After his mourning period, Gibbs knew he had to have an heir. And so started the ex-wives as he started looking for a new queen. None of them, though, had his love. That was saved for Shannon.

Gibbs' first ex-wife gave him a daughter, named Abigail. Everyone called her Abby, and she was only two when her mother was caught cheating and was divorced by the king. Abby was never sad that her mother was gone, she barely noticed as she was mostly raised by her governess instead.

Gibbs married again within the year. The second ex also gave Gibbs a daughter, who he called Caitlin. She was loved by everybody who met her. Abby was so proud of being an older sister (even if only by two years), she would boast about Kate (a nickname Abby came up with) to anyone who would listen — or could understand her two-year-old babble.

Kate's mother was there for her daughter more than Abby's had ever been, but still did not see Kate enough to cause the young princess to cry when things went downhill for Gibbs' wife. Kate was three when the second ex-wife was caught trying to plot the murder of the king and eldest princess and was promptly beheaded.

Again, Gibbs married before a year had passed since the previous wife. The third ex didn't do much that people remember. She did, though, try to get Gibbs to remove five-year-old Abby and three-year-old Kate from the castle because she was jealous of the attention he gave them. She was divorced after only half a year of marriage because of that stunt. Abby started keeping Kate close to her after that, trying to give both of them the comfort they needed after the 'evil' stepmother tried to get rid of them.

For five years thereafter, Gibbs didn't look for another wife, instead putting all his energy towards his daughters. The three would have picnics and fake tea parties on the floor of Kate's room. They would go horse-back riding and at the insistence of Abby, they would ride through the village to see if there was anything they could help the people with.

Then Gibbs met Jennifer, the widowed Duchess of Hadle, and his whole world shifted. From that point on, though he knew he would never forget Shannon, he also knew that he and Jennifer were meant for each other. It was as though Shannon was there, telling Gibbs that he had her blessing to love another.

They got married, and Gibbs welcomed another daughter into his family. Ziva was the seven-year-old daughter of Jenny and her ex-husband, and while Gibbs and the castle staff loved her, Abby and Kate decidedly did not. Jenny fit into Gibbs' family well, as though she had been there the entire time.

Gibbs loved his daughters all the same: the always curious Abby, the kind, level-headed Kate, and the tough and fierce Ziva. He always set aside time for each member of his family every day. He would help Abby with her projects and lessons as heir of the kingdom, get Kate paints and brushes for her hobby, and help Ziva with her swordplay.

Jenny would watch on, happy that Gibbs was kind to all of his daughters, even Ziva who was not his own. Jenny herself would give her time to the girls, teaching them music and public speaking. Abby and Kate were happy to have a mother again, after all — they had grown up without a true mother. Abby was more dependent on Jenny than Kate, as she had been used to Kate's mother for three years before she was ripped away because of treason.

Ziva was happy that Jenny and Gibbs married, as she finally had a father. Her actual father had never cared for her, and though he had died when she was five — two years prior — he had only spoken to her once. Gibbs was always there for her when he could be, and she was never an afterthought for him.

The three girls would eventually learn to get along, and love each other like the sisters they were. Jenny would raise them when their father would need to be away to facilitate a dispute. And the five of them would become a strong, united family, ruling the kingdom fairly.
