Prologue:
The kit squealed as Fox paw- the medicine apprentice- slunk out of camp, using only the shadows for cover. Soon, Foxpaw came to a halt at the edge of the gorge. A new cat scrambled up the rocky canyon, rocks falling beneath his small paws. He dipped his head in greeting. A strange new scent lingered around him, but Foxpaw stood her ground. She had no fear of this mysterious cat.
"Foxpaw," He looked down at his paws, "you came."
"Of course, Moorwind." Foxpaw Looked at him with regret. No matter how hard she tried, she just couldn't meet his gaze.
"You brought her," He observed, his tail flicking.
"Why not? I can trust you, right?"
Moorwind took the kit from Foxpaw and turned away. He leapt over the side of the gorge and disappeared. Foxpaw turned to. But in the opposite direction. As she left, a head poked out of the bushes. Brown. He followed the she-cat back to camp as quiet as a mouse.
Chapter 1:
Eagle paw trotted through the gorse tunnel after his mentor, Pigeongrip, who was stumbling after their training session. He could see the frailness of the she-cat in her eyes as she sat down in a patch of grass.
Warriors were sat together, sharing the news of the day. The sun drowned in grassy moorland and Eaglepaw saw Berrypaw and Snakepaw sharing tongues. Snakepaw rolled his eyes and walked away, as he left, Berrypaw trotted up to Eaglepaw and ushered him away to the apprentice den.
"Listen up, I've got a brilliant idea! I've just told Snakepaw, but he called me an idiot." She meowed, she meowed, her eyes glistening with excitement. Eaglepaw more than knew that most of Berrypaw's ideas would get them into extreme trouble or lead them to certain death. He asked anyway.
"What's this plan then?"
"I wanted to see what's in the gorge," She meowed as Eaglepaw let out a sigh, "Me and you will find a tunnel, and go into the gorge!"
"I'm not sure it will be that easy…" Eagle paw told her, "Pigeon grip won't let me go out at night and I can't say that I'm going inside the gorge! She'll think I'm crazy and send me back to my nest!"
"You could say you're going hunting." Berrypaw suggested.
"In the middle of the night?!"
"We'll sneak out!"
"That might be possible…"
"Great, you agree with my idea! Let's go!"
"Ok."
"I don't suppose I could come to?" Eaglepaw whipped around to face Snakepaw, ", a trio is greater than a pair."
"Sure!" Berrypaw Mewed.
The next hours until midnight went rapidly. Warriors slunk almost silently into their dens, drowsiness flooding through them as they fell asleep. Eaglepaw felt himself growing tired, but he kept himself awake for Berrypaw's sake.
Every now and then, a warrior on guard would stride past and the three of them would leap into their nests as fast as they could and pretend to be asleep.
When the time came, Eaglepaw felt anxious. With a flick pf berrypaw's tail, they would be out there, facing the dangers of the night.
Eaglepaw spotted Ivyspirit guarding the WindClan camp, as they made there way out. All was silent except the quiet sound of paws on soft earth. The edges of the camp were in total darkness, and the moon shone only on the centre.
Eaglepaw saw Snakepaw creeping across the clearing in front of him. Berrypaw led the way, and Eaglepaw had taken the rear.
Once they were safely out of camp, they bolted through the darkest parts of the vast moors and came to a halt at a large, sloped rock, sticking out of the ground. Eaglepaw would lie on top of this rock after training in Green-Leaf and bask in the sun. Snakepaw ducked under the rock, and a tunnel slid into the ground. It's eerie darkness frightened Eaglepaw, and both his companions stood rooted to the spot, staring into the gloom.
"So, this is it?" Snakepaw broke the silence.
"Yep, this is a tunnel we can go through." Berrypaw replied, trying to sound brave but tremendously failing.
"Are you sure this leads to the gorge?" Eaglepaw asked, shuddering at the thought that it might lead them to a rouge den, or worse, death.
"Nope!" Berrypaw mewed cheerily and skidded into the passage.
As Eaglepaw entered the tunnel, he could feel Snakepaw's black pelt brush against his. All he could see was the glowing eyes of his friends. Suddenly, Eaglepaw couldn't see Berrypaw anymore. 'Maybe it's too dark…' He tried to reassure himself that she wasn't in any danger, but then he heard it. A scream. It was Berrypaw. Eaglepaw and Snakepaw exchanged glances and raced toward the noise. Before he could stop, the tunnel opened up into the gorge and Eaglepaw flew into the water.
"Ha! I got you!" Berrypaw let out a yowl of laughter.
"Not funny, Berrypaw…" Eaglepaw grumbled, pulling himself out the water.
As Eaglepaw's gaze followed the river, her spotted a flicker of movement beneath the bridge. A clearing.
"Look!" He called to his companions, "There's a clearing behind the waterfall! Beneath the bridge!"
As they ran towards the waterfall, the bit of land they were standing on, grew smaller and smaller, until was covered in water. Eaglepaw didn't hesitate, he was already wet, he started to wade through the water, followed by his friends- who gave the water a disgusted look. Eaglepaw could hear Berrypaw squealing in excitement, and Snakepaw take a breath of fear.
He felt Berrypaw brush against his fur. Her cream-coloured pelt was the wettest, when she got in the water, she loved it.
"You should join RiverClan! You'll get to swim loads there!" Snakepaw teased Berrypaw, "I'm sure they'll appreciate a wonderful swimmer like yourself!"
Before Berrypaw could reply, the current through them past the waterfall. Eaglepaw tried to grab Berrypaw, but she was to heavy and was weighing him down, but still he wouldn't let go.
Then he heard a gentle voice whisper in his ear, "Let her go, I've got her now."
He let go, and felt relieved to be freed of the weight, but he knew he couldn't survive in the water much longer. 'StarClan! Help me!' he cried in his head. As Eaglepaw was about to give up, he felt himself being carried to the shore. Snakepaw and Berrypaw were there to, gasping for air. Eaglepaw turned to face his saviour. A scraggy, brown, tabby she-cat with amber eyes gleaming like gemstones.
"Hello, I'm Tansypaw! What's your name? Where are you from? Friend or foe?" The She-cat asked.
"I'm Eaglepaw. I come from WIndClan. I'm a friend I guess…" Eaglepaw replied.
"Now may we know who you are now?" Snakepaw padded over to Eaglepaw and Tansypaw.
"Oh, yes! I'm Tansypaw of RabbitClan! This is my territory." Eaglepaw looked around, the clearing opened up into a moor land. He could smell water voles and rabbits scurrying beneath the rocks, "I am a friend." Tansypaw finished, "Follow me, we'll get you warmed up."
Eaglepaw, Berrypaw and Snakepaw, followed the brown tabby away from the waterfall. 'Is this real? I thought there were only four clans! Windclan, RiverClan, ShadowClan and ThunderClan.' Eaglepaw thought as they moved deeper into RabbitClan territory.
