"I regret NOTHING!" Mary Lou announced as she walked into the kitchen after kissing Bobby goodnight on the front porch. She grabbed a cold beer from the fridge.
Lula laughed out loud, "Why should you? He was BEAUTIFUL!" All the girls nodded their agreement.
"Kinda jealous myself." Val said with a sigh. "I wish I could be free like that."
Stephanie was thoughtful.
"Steph?"
"I was just thinking about all the wedding drama, the awful frat boys, our trashed house and at the end of the day, the fact that we met four really great guys makes none of that other stuff matter. Like a silver lining in all the chaos."
"Not to mention the upgrade on home security." Lula said, looking at her new set of Medeco Maxum keys."
"Ric and the boys want to start a security company." Stephanie volunteered.
"I guess that makes us their first customers." Mary Lou smiled.
"It certainly makes us something." Lula said, and all the girls laughed.
Bobby took all the ribbing with good humor. Because he had absolutely loved having sex with Mary Lou in the shower… in her bed… on the living room floor… That was where everything started after they lay out on the floor after cleaning the room. Then Mary Lou leaned up on one elbow and suggested a shower. Bobby wasn't sure he heard her right until she had her top and bra off. Then he discovered she was a real blonde and there was no hope of making it all the way to the shower. He kissed her everywhere, wondering the whole time how he could be so enchanted with a woman he had just met.
Lester knocked his elbow. "It is no fun ragging on you if you can't even pay attention."
"It was a great day." Broussard had said nothing about the stolen kisses between him and Lula during the install of her bedroom window locks. He did not kiss and tell. But the lunch had been fun, with childhood stories and funny army recruit tales- some of which, Lester assured the girls, might even be true. They had all laughed. It had been a good time, no pressure. Just what they needed before the next mission. There would be six weeks stateside before they deployed, then they would be in the field for at least two months. Two months under cover… invisible. Out of contact with their world. So, he was going to enjoy the time here.
Ric was quiet. He had a pair of blue eyes on his mind. Stephanie and her sister looked alike in many ways, but Steph had sapphire blue eyes and Val's were a couple of shades lighter. She was smart and funny and he felt all the stress he carried ease away when he was with her. Even the physical comfort he took with his cousin Marion's girlfriend, Rachel, at the barbeque the weekend before hadn't relaxed him as much as time in Stephanie's company. With Stephanie, he felt like he was home.
Over the next two weeks, the couples spent all their time together, on the beach, in the waves, and at the South Miami clubs. Lester and Ric knew everyone and they got in everywhere. Mary Lou and Bobby were in the habit of sneaking home early to have the house to themselves, but nobody called them on it.
Lester was taking it slow with Val. She had confessed to him Steve's betrayal and how she was gun shy and Lester told her they would spend the time getting to know one another and having fun. Since then, he had been showing her all Miami had to offer.
Broussard, who Lula told the girls never to call by his first name, was a gentle giant around all the girls, and treated Lula like a queen. When they decided to be intimate, he rented a hotel room and while they didn't lie to the others, they didn't flaunt their new relationship.
When it was time to head back to Georgia, everyone promised to call/write/stay in touch, and the boys piled in Ric's black Jeep and drove away.
The house seemed quiet without them. As promised, Stephanie and Val checked in with Doña Rosa for Ric and Lester and life got back to normal.
"Bobby is on the phone, Mary Lou."
Mary Lou took the phone from Val as she Lula and Stephanie headed out. They were seeing the new blockbuster, but Mary Lou begged off. She had been waiting for Bobby to call.
Once the door closed, she spoke into the receiver. "Okay, they are gone. So, when can you get a little time off?"
"I can get three days together starting Monday. I can be there by sunrise if I drive straight through. Ric will loan me his Jeep. Mary Lou, should we talk about this?"
"We can talk once we know." Though Mary Lou was pretty sure.
The doctor sat before them and confirmed what Mary Lou knew already then left the room so they could have a moment alone.
"We are having a baby." Bobby's voice trembled a little when he spoke, as a huge smile came across his face. "I'm gonna be a daddy." He held her fiercely.
"You aren't upset?"
"Mary Lou, I love you. I have been trying to figure out how to ask you to marry me without you thinking I was crazy to ask so soon. I bought you a ring the day after we met."
"You can't be serious." Her tears, now joyful, slid down her cheeks. "It has only been six weeks since we got together."
"The guys will tell you."
"Oh Bobby."
The large man knelt before her, his eyes glistening and asked, "Mary Lou, will you please do me the honor of being my wife."
"Of course, I will."
"I don't have a lot of time right now, so we should fly to Vegas tonight. Ric and Broussard are tied up so I can ask Lester to fly out to be a witness."
"And I will ask the girls to join us."
"Are you happy, Mary Lou?"
Her voice cracked a little as her eyes filled. "So happy."
Lester awoke in the hotel room, with a warm naked body draped over him. He had the largest erection he could remember. The body whispered to him. "Are we sober enough to have fun now?"
Valarie.
In his bed.
Willing.
Naked.
They had talked last night about getting busy, after Bobby and Mary Lou went off to the Bridal Suite and Lula and Stephanie headed to the casino. But Val, not a big drinker, had been indulging since they landed in Vegas. There was champagne in the chauffeured limo that Bobby rented for the day. On the way to the courthouse for the license, they toasted the lucky couple. At the Tux rental place, there had been wine and cheese. Then they had margaritas as Mary Lou tried on multiple dresses at the dress rental shop.
Lula, Stephanie and Val all had their dresses from Lauren's wedding, sans hats and parasols, in honor of the day Mary Lou and Bobby met.
Lester refilled glasses as all the girls sat getting their hair and make-up done.
The wedding, in the chapel at the Excalibur was pretty and not overdone. Mary Lou was given a beautiful flower bouquet and each girl carried a red rose. "I can't believe she met her soul mate wearing this monstrosity." Stephanie whispered as they started down the aisle.
Les stood with Bobby, both filling out his rented tux to perfection.
The service was filmed and photographed by hidden cameras and after saying "I do", everyone, still dressed in Wedding finery, went to New York, New York and road the rollercoaster, then headed to the Venetian for a gondola ride. Bobby and Mary Lou went in the first Gondola, Steph and Lula, were in the next and Les was in the third with Val, who placed her hand on him "there" and gave a squeeze, saying, "Can we, later?" Les nodded as he had lost the ability to speak.
Mary Lou turned in her gondola to throw her bouquet and Steph and Lula nearly toppled out of theirs trying to catch it, to the cheers of the crowds above them.
The wedding dinner was at a steak house and then the newlyweds headed to their suite.
"The blackjack tables are calling." Lula said, taking Stephanie by the arm.
Then Les took Val back to his room, and they kissed and were soon naked.
But he stopped.
Val wasn't sober. They had been drinking all day and he wanted to be sure she really wanted to have sex with him. So… he held her naked form against him and they had both fallen asleep.
And now it was morning.
Val spoke again. "We could start in the shower. I have been wondering about it ever since…"
Les scooped Val up without another word. "No time like the present to check it out."
On the plane back to Georgia, Lester confessed to Bobby, "She might be the one."
"It does kinda knocks you for a loop. I hope Mary Lou likes the Base Housing." Bobby had requested the housing and as soon as it was available, Mary Lou would move to Fort Benning, where the unit was based.
"I feel like I hit the lottery. I want to ask her to marry me as soon as we get back from this next deployment. I would do it now, but I don't want her to feel rushed."
"You don't want her to think you are crazy." Bobby smiled knowingly. "I can't believe Mary Lou and I are gonna live happily ever after. I almost want to send those frat boy punks a thank you card."
The two men laughed as the captain announced they were getting prepared to land.
