AN: Because of who I want to ship Danny with, but also for the experience I want him to have. Danny got his powers in this at 13 instead of 14, though he is now 14. So he's had his powers for a year now. Things have changed, and he has grown. But he still has much more room for growth.
"Danny Phantom" and "Kipo and The Age of Wonderbeasts" unfortunately do not belong to me, lest they'd still be ongoing (hopefully). In any case they belong to Butch Hartman + Nicklodeon and Radford Sechrist + Bill Wolkoff + Studio Mir + Netflix respectively. (Kipo's is mouthful of a disclaimer.)
Chapter Prologue - Cujo Phantom
Danny listened intently as his parents boasted their newest invention. His slow heart beating almost as fast as a normal humans as his parents mentioned their newest weapon affecting Ghost Cores.
It seemed to be a fusion of sorts between the Jack-o-nine-tails and the Ghost Catcher still in the lab downstairs.
"After coming to learn about Ghost Cores and how some of them are attuned to certain elements we've come to the conclusion that if none of our own weapons are effective against that Phantom jerk anymore than we'll just destroy him from the inside out with another Ghost!"
Nervously Danny had asked how they would go about doing that. He did not like the answer.
"We've noticed the Ghost Boy using ice a lot lately, so we believe that is the direction in which their core developed, but we've also noticed that a lot of the Ghost Scum it's close with have fire attributes of some sort. Even that ecto-mutt that hangs around Phantom has fire for a tail, and I'm pretty sure we saw it breathing fire a few days ago too. SO! You're father and I figured that if we can use our new invention to force the two Ghosts together their cores will go at war with each-other and destroy each-other. Well either that, or one Ghost comes out the unstable victor, which means one less ectoplasmic scum for the city to deal with, so it's a win-win!"
Danny was as pale as his alter-ego's namesake. He CANNOT get hit by that.
It was only a week prior when he received an ominous warning from Clockwork that the Primordial Ghost would be unable to interfere in his timeline again so soon, or allow Danny to rewrite reality should he be discovered or danger happens. The Ghost Council very much wants Danny gone and are urging CW to erase him. Permanently.
He had to stay on his toes, especially this week. And he has an inkling this may be why.
It was a busy couple days following with his parents busy in the lab doing something. The 14 year old boy was fighting against a Cujo in a bad mood for some reason. It was too chaotic when he heard the whirring sound followed by a launch, with Danny being pinned by the gigantified dead dog, he had noticed the net coming their way and turned intangible at the last moment. Only to come and regret it as he realized too late that the net was, of course, phase-proofed. Danny and Cujo were trapped in the painful net, because of course his parent's had made sure to make it extra electrified.
From the perspective of the elder Fentons they watched as their aim was true (for once) and they captured the two ghosts, yelping and screaming in their fake cries of pain trying to manipulate sympathy from anybody nearby. It was useless, they were the only ones around.
They watched as the ecto-mutt that follows Phantom around sometimes shrunk down to the size of a small puppy. The deviousness of Ghosts knew no bounds. Then they watched as the two figures caught in the Fenton Crossing Net became one.
They watched as lightning flared up and brightly burned the facsimile of flesh covering the Ghost Menace that has been plaguing Amity Park for too long. The screams intensified.
Before was the appearance of a white haired teenage boy, followed by the sprouting of ears, tail, and sharp teeth, before finally the humanoid form the Ghost had taken, the corrupted image of her son inverted, likely to mock her, disappeared with all that was left being the form of a small dog with shifting black spots rimmed in white on neon green fur.
The Ghost Dog tunneled down and out of the grasp of the net before the Fentons could capture it for experiments. Followed by ripping it apart molecule by molecule.
Danny was panicking. It felt like he'd have a heart attack that'd knock him dead if he was more alive. His Core - His Soul - was more powerful than Cujo's. By far. But it was exactly because of that, that Danny had to withdraw within the shared body, lest his core crush Cujo's.
He held back and focused on protecting his Soul as best as he could while Cujo's Soul went on the offensive. The fire burning at him from the very essence of his being.
Danny had never been so intimate with Ghost Cores before now, not even his own. He had never been able to feel it so clearly and basically see it. It felt like he was trapped in a body that was not his own, unable to so much as twitch with destroying everything precious around him.
A prison.
Danny had allowed Cujo control and focused on actually weakening his own Core self-destructively instead of escaping or taking control, as he didn't know how to do the former, overshadowing not working, not willing to risk the latter.
It was a strange sensation to get used to, being so close to the Core of another. To feel Cujo's Core directly fighting his own. As if he could feel the claws, bites, and scorch marks Cujo was subconsciously dishing out at him.
Danny didn't know how long they had been in that state together, but eventually, Cujo noticed something else was off, besides just feeling weird. Took 'em long enough. But when Cujo realized his best friend was inside of him, and being attacked by his Core, he pulled back himself.
The unexpected break in Cujo's control jaunted Danny into the driver's seat. His Core was no longer being attacked so much as it felt as if it's wounds were being licked. His core no longer suffering from the flames but instead provided a warm comfort.
The first thing Danny visibly noticed when he took control of their shared body, was that they were in the Ghost Zone- or Infinite Realms - and that it looked different through a Cujo's eyes. He had no clue if this was how it was for Full Ghosts, Ghost Dogs, or just Cujo, but either way, he was lost and had no clue where he was.
Trying to find where they were had something click within Danny. He felt his core hum and bark(?) and felt his nose twitch. Suddenly his sense of direction was supernaturally improved, as he could follow the trails with his - Cujo's? - sense of smell.
He managed to quickly locate his parent's "scent" and traced it. He was on his way to the portal of the Fenton Lab.
As he approached the portal he wanted to try something he thought of on the sprint/fly back. Originally he was hoping to find something that could reverse the fusion in his parent's lab, such as the Fenton Ghost Catcher assuming they didn't disassemble it to create the invention that did this in the first place.
But now, he remembered one of his powers, one that reminded him he really should stop neglecting most of his abilities that it takes him so long to remember which ones he has at his disposal.
In this case, he was referring to his Duplication ability.
When he was first trying to self-teach himself that particular superpower he had made some frankly horrifying discoveries and body shapes. Perhaps he could use a similar principle to separate his Core from Cujo's.
Well it was worth a try and a lot less dangerous than trying to go into the lab in his current state.
A COUPLE OF PITIFUL AND DRAINING ATTEMPTS LATER...
Danny did it! ... Sort of?
It was all wrong. It felt all weird and uncanny.
Like he was Himself but his Soul wasn't. Or was it the opposite? Like he was both and not himself?
He wasn't sure, but it was a weird feeling.
Danny looked down at the green, confused, and drained puppy at his tail-end.
Wait. Tail. He had a tail, and not the Ghostly Wisp he called one either - though there was that too.
Danny looked at the neon green tail of spectral flames so similar to Cujo's though longer.
Watched as it swished around. He quickly caught himself chasing it as he tried to get a better look.
An embarrassed look marred his face, and looking at Cujo with a sheepish-joking grin, "We don't tell anyone about this. Especially you, you blabbermouth."
The apparently-not-silent-as-the-dead dog in question just tilted their head before happily barking.
In fact, if anything Danny has learned, the Dead are VERY loud.
Anyways, Danny was starting to get more excited, he freed himself! With his own power! Mostly. He was sure the tail would fade away eventually... he hoped. But this was still better than being stuck together.
Though looking at the obviously very tired Ghost Dog taking a nap curled up around him, made Danny realize just how tired/exhausted he was too, especially after getting better at it Duplication hadn't been this tiring before, even when he was just starting out.
Well that was fine, he could just take a nap with Cujo here, near the Portal and go in when he wakes up again.
That was the plan until the Cosmos or beyond or whatever else is out there and has it out for him - was it Clockwork, did the Stopwatch enjoy this? - decided now would be a good time for the reckoning of his actions to come haunt him by punching him in the face.
The duplication as it turned out, wasn't a permanent solution. Quickly Danny found himself snapped back to reality as the gravity of the situation hit him, literally. He was stuck in the body of Cujo again. Said dog in control and deciding now was nap time.
Danny tried to argue but was too sleepy himself. So he went to sleep, not realizing in his unconsciousness that he pulled on the warmth of Cujo's core like a blanket around himself and his own Core. His still living side craving the warmth in his sleep.
Danny didn't know how long he and Cujo had slept for, but he couldn't take over the body, at best he was able to communicate mentally with Cujo.
Directing the Puppy towards the lab he directed Cujo to go through the Fenton Ghost Catcher, a dream-catcher inspired invention meant to separate Spectral Entities from the possessed/overshadowed forcibly.
The last time Danny went through it, his two halves were separated, neither one being truly Danny, a Soulless human and a Ghost obsessed with Heroism.
He would just have to pray to whatever doesn't have it out for him that the same won't happen this time and all that'll happen was Danny and Cujo separating.
They went through.
It worked! But Danny still had a tail.
He tried turning human again, and watched as the tail disappeared.
Cujo barked happily at him, tongue lolling out, before zooming in on a ball shaped invention.
Danny's eyes widened, "Cujo no!"
Too late.
Danny tried giving chase.
He tried to tap into his powers but felt burnt instead.
That wasn't good.
Danny grabbed some inventions he knew how to use and gave chase as a human.
Only to meet with two humans pointing guns at him from atop the stairs.
"Phantom" Said with such vitriol that Danny knew. His Secret was out, and he was living his nightmares.
The Ghost Catcher was a trap.
Rigged.
The Fenton Elder's had monologued to him. He had hoped, wished, that of all people, they wouldn't do the monologue.
They found Phantom's Ecto-signature in their inventions, keyed to avoid him as best as they could. Keyed to make him the exception.
They discovered his secret.
It had been over a month apparently since Danny had gone missing.
But, perhaps psychotically irrationally, Jack and Maddie Fenton had believed with all their being that their invention wouldn't kill them off as they had hoped. That the cores at war wouldn't end in his oblivion. They believed him to still be "alive" until they could finish him themselves on the dissection table.
So they rigged the only way they knew that Danny would know as the only possible option to separate him from his new body.
Designed like an improved Plasmius Maximus, the Ghost Catcher would seal his powers after they got separated.
Keyed specifically to the Ecto-signature of Phantom.
Now he was strapped to a table. Feeling powerless and terrified.
It wasn't a dissection yet. No it was an interrogation.
They believed Phantom to have been impersonating Danny this whole time.
That would change when they dissected him and saw the unnatural blood - fused of two incompatible, opposing, universes - dimensions.
But they had not gotten to that yet. And Danny wasn't sure if he wanted them to see that or not. A last ditch attempt to prove he was still him, still their son. But what if they continued? What if that didn't stop the dissections/vivisections? What if it only increased their fervors. Danny would break if he saw that.
But it got to that anyways. Danny dared to hope, dared to resign, dared to have far conflicting emotions.
Well they discovered the truth. Danny told them his origin story. They nearly broke down. They told him they would fix him - that hurt, broke him a little inside, but he was also happy they still cared - in their own twisted way and biased understanding. Then they did break down.
Then the door broke down. It was the GIW.
In the month he had gone missing. It seems his parents and the GIW had pulled their resources together.
It was too late.
They tried to defend him. They were shot.
In his fear and anger he pulled at the power within him.
But it wasn't his own.
At least not yet, or not in any way he was familiar with.
Red eyes glowed, dog ears folded over his head, his teeth sharpened, and a tail pressed against the table beneath him uncomfortably.
But most importantly, his size grew.
He just kept getting growing, more and more.
The phase-proof straps on his legs, yet unremoved, snapped under the strain of his new still increasing size and strength.
A guttural growl escaped his throat while he defended his parents. His bleeding out parents.
"We love you." That was the last words Danny could hear before, "TIME OUT."
Then Danny found himself in a familiar tower.
"Clockwork! Save them! Please you have to save them!"
Clockwork's expression remained patient as Danny became smaller and panicked.
He was weeping, begging, on the floor of the tower. Clockwork put a comforting hand on his shoulder at the right time to bring Danny out of his spiraling pleas and thoughts.
"There is one way."
Danny looked up at him, hopeful.
"I am not allowed to interfere again. Not with every ancient, council, and primordial, watching my every action in regards to you."
Clockwork held a hand up to let him continue where Danny would have interrupted.
"They call for me to erase you. They will allow me to reset the timeline one more time, so long only as I remove you from it."
Danny's eyes widened.
"Your friends and family do not survive the coming timeline. But you can choose to sacrifice away your life for their to live on. It will be as if you were never born, no Ghost Portal or Ghosts invading Amity Park. Jazz will grow up to be happy in her own way, and your parents will turn they're brilliance to other pursuits. I will ensure the events that prevent Plasmius from doing anything to your father."
"I'll do it." Danny said resolutely. He was scared, of course he was. He was still a 14 year old boy. But he would give up his life for theirs. Any day.
Clockwork gave the boy a smile both proud and sad. "That's my boy."
And with a wave of his hand Danny watched as time reversed before his eyes, a relieved and sad look in his eyes, tears welled up.
Then he lost consciousness.
When he next awoke it was in a new world. A world of Wonderbeasts.
AN: Okay so that's the Prologue. You may wanna read this.
I just finished binge watching Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts. And just WOW. I also just finished binging Glitch Techs, also Wow. Both those shows are such amazing and great underrated gems I have to wonder why I never started them earlier. Like they are both so epic! Not to mention how great the soundtracks were/are. Man, I wish they went on for longer. I know Glitch Techs should be getting more seasons, but I feel like it's gonna need some more support before that can happen. (Glitch Techs x Danny Phantom fanfiction should be up soon.)
Now somethings are gonna be a little different, just a little. One obvious example being Danny's (current) power-set. Wanted to fit him in a bit more with the Universe or world of Kipo and decided to go about it this way.
I'll try to throw in an arc or two of my own to follow, so it's not just canon. I'll try my best to get good non-canon character interactions in this too, hopefully I can do the original show justice.
The other change is just a little more mature or realistic? The way Kipo transforms is obviously designed for a kid-friendly cartoon (which I have absolutely no issues with) but I do like a little realism in the things I write. I tend to theorize ways that X factor in shows could be possible, just something I do for fun. Like for example, Danny's body being a mess of quantum entanglement, exotic matter, and partially situated in the 4th dimension. Also Magic/Supernatural. I have no issue with Fantasy or Magic or Supernatural being the solution to the X factor, but I do have issue when they claim otherwise but have no possible evidence of the contrary. What am I getting at? Kipo and her mother's clothes. It's inconsistent. Supposedly her transformation is genetic, and scientific, not supernatural (and ignoring the speed it's done at for now) means her body is expanding outward. This is proven when she first breaks her sleeves transforming. But later on everything is intact despite shapeshifting to such a massive degree. So I'm going to make it so that her clothes do in fact shred with transformations, but I also have a few plot points revolving around that in mind, like a "Shopping trip" arc where the cast raid a mall for many, Many, sets of clothes and a nice scene where Danny covers her after the first major transformation. Giving her his favourite shirt.
I know she has a really awesome style already, but no reason for there to only be the one set of those clothes. Besides, what does that really say about hygiene.
That change above is why I tagged this as M, to be safe. There are no lemons though. Flirting, absolutely. Lemons, highly unlikely. Might change it to T once I feel it's safe enough to do so.
Cover Art not mine. Just found over the internet.
