It took a while, but Curtis was finally able to convince both Trina and Laura to return to Port Charles with him, once the body of Victor Cassadine was found. There had been no sign of Spencer, but it appeared that the young man was Victor's final victim in his madness. There had been no sign of him. Trina had just sat on the plane, staring out the window, clinging to baby Ace as if he was a life jacket, knowing that the return of the baby was the last thing she could do for Spencer until he returned himself.
Laura on the other hand, in her devastation was angry. Who had called the WSB? Surely it hadn't been Robert! Whoever it was...they were going to have her to deal with.
Once they were back in Port Charles, the first stop was General Hospital. Everyone, especially Valentin, Anna, and Holly, needed to be checked over. They had been the only ones exposed to the pathogen. Dr. Obrecht had other goals. She wanted her bone marrow harvested immediately! There was not a moment to lose.
Trina and Laura walked side by side, each silent in their grief. Ace was still in Trina's arms when Portia came rushing up, her tears wetting her cheeks.
"Trina! Thank god you're home! You're safe!" Portia wrapped her arms around her daughter, being careful not to hug her too tight since she had a baby in her arms. "I was so worried!"
She spotted Curtis coming up from behind, looking rather grim himself. She rushed to her husband and wrapped her arms around his neck, thankful for his safety as well. "Thank you! Thank you for bringing her home."
"I wish I could have done more," He eyed the silent Trina wearily. The girl had yet to say anything since they had left Greenland. He had seen for himself how close she had been to Spencer. There was love there and now...just thinking about what happened made his heart ache for his could-be daughter. He'd do anything to change things for her.
"This calls for a celebration. Dinner at the Metro Court...we should go all out," Portia began, but frowned as Curtis shook his head.
"That's not a good idea right now, Portia. Trina's...she's going to need you in the coming days…"
"What? What else happened? Is she hurt?"
"Spencer was on the Haunted Star when it blew up. He went back to stop Victor when the WSB" bombed the ship with both of them on it. Victor's body was found...but Spencer...no one has seen him. It's likely that he didn't survive."
"Oh my god...well...um...at least Trina is safe?" Portia frowned, not knowing what to say or do. She did not like Spencer Cassadine. She blamed him for this whole thing. She certainly wouldn't cry over his loss. But Trina would...but Trina wasn't crying. She looked worried and tired, but there were no tears as she stood next to Mayor Collins, holding tightly to Spencer's baby brother.
"Just don't say anything, alright? She's going to need love and support."
"I'm sure she'll be ok. Her infatuation with…"
Curtis held up a gloved hand, his voice tight with a hint of annoyance. "It's not just infatuation Portia. I know that you don't want to hear this, but you weren't there. You didn't see them together. The connection, their bond...it's love. Trina and Spencer were in love with each other."
"What?"
"He took a beating for her, trying to keep her safe. She refused to leave him. Those are things you do for people you love. Now, you have a chance to make things right with her, but if you speak ill of Spencer, or do anything against their relationship, I'm telling you. You'll lose her for good."
"She's just turned twenty…she doesn't know what love is yet…"
"Do you? Do any of us? Come on now," Curtis stepped back, saying all that he could at the moment. He looked towards the entrance to see Scott Baldwin approach. "Great."
"Laura! Where's Liesl?! Thank goodness! Robert the fool tried to stop me from calling The WSB….," Scott began ranting, rushing up to Laura, who frowned, clear grief and outrage in her eyes.
"Wait? Did you just say that you had called The WSB?" Laura's voice shook with unbridled rage.
Sensing something, Curtis rushed over and took Laura's shoulder, but the woman shook him off.
"Yes, of course! I wanted to…"
Laura's hard slap was heard throughout the hospital hallway, knocking his head to the side. "YOU MURDERER!"
"Laura…," Curtis quickly wrapped his arms around the distraught grandmother as she went after the stammering lawyer. "YOU KILLED MY GRANDSON YOU SON OF A BITCH! I AM GOING TO KILL YOU!"
"What? What are you talking about, I was trying to…"
"You killed Spencer! First, you kidnap Lulu and now you've killed my grandson!"
"The WSB bombed The Haunted Star. Spencer was onboard that ship, trying to stop Victor. This was exactly what we were trying to keep from happening, you numb skull," Robert Scorpio stood behind Scott, his own eyes flashing with anger. "Happy now? You have his blood on your hands!"
"Portia, sedative please!" Curtis struggled with Laura, who was still trying to get to Scott.
It was Elizabeth who appeared with a syringe and as gently as possible, injected Laura with the medicine. Curtis felt concern and relief at the same time as Laura slumped in his arms, her struggles finished for now.
"Thank you…"
"I'll get a gurney and prepare a room for her," Elizabeth gently touched Laura's face, her eyes filling with tears to see the woman she thought of as her mother in such a state.
"What was that about? I didn't…"
"You did! The WSB did exactly what we knew they would do! Now a young man is dead thanks to you!" Robert yelled, getting up in Scott's face.
"Stop it!" Trina yelled, her brown eyes flashing with worry and anger. "Stop it right now! Spencer's not dead! He's not! We promised not to leave each other! He promised that he would be right behind me and he'll keep that promise! I know he will!"
"Trina…," Curtis tried to approach her but stopped when she shook her head.
"I'd feel it! I'd feel it if he was dead," Trina spied TJ as he was going to run more tests on Willow. "TJ! Tell them! Tell them how you would know if something had happened to Molly! Tell them that's how it is for people in love like you love Molly and I love Spencer! Tell them!"
"Trina...calm down. Ok, you're right. We hadn't found a body, so he could still be out there…"
"Right, which is why you're going to go back to find him, right? Remember? You said you'd go back for Spencer…?"
Curtis's mouth dropped open, not knowing what to say. "That was…"
"I'm holding you to that now, Curtis! Spencer is alive, probably hurt and alone because we came back here, but you have to go back! You have to find him! For me! For Laura! She went all that way to bring both of her grandsons home! Don't you think you should do all you can to make that happen?"
Curtis looked at Portia and he could tell that she wanted him to refuse, to stay here with her and Trina. But then he looked at Trina, who looked so lost and heartbroken. He wanted to do all he could to take that grief and uncertainty out of her eyes and the only way to do that was to go back to Greenland and find out what became of Spencer. He looked over at Laura, who was unconscious and being wheeled into a room. Her bravery had saved Port Charles from another weather machine. She deserved to know that both of her grandsons were safe.
"Okay. I'll go back and look for Spencer. I'll bring him home if I can. I promise," Curtis agreed, wrapping his arms around the sobbing young woman. "It'll be okay, Trina. I'll bring him home."
"Thank you," Trina sobbed, clinging to Curtis, thinking to herself that no matter what a DNA test would say, Curtis was family.
