She Can And She Did

Chapter 2

As the cab pulled into Lee's apartment complex, he and Amanda got out, and while Lee paid the man, Amanda winced at the brightness of the day as she looked around, stating softly, "Oh, my gosh! Can anyone dim the light here?"

The cab pulled away, and Lee, putting his arm around Amanda, as he carried the overnight bag, steered her towards the apartment building as they walked, and kissing her temple gently, answered, "C'mon...Let's get you settled in."

Getting off at the 3rd floor, Lee pulled out his key, and unlocking his door, ushered Amanda in gently, saying, "After you..."

Walking in, Amanda went to sit down on the couch answering, "Lee, I'm really sorry about this. I swear, I don't know why I got so..."

Lee shrugged responding, "Blitzed? Ah, it's okay, Honey...Happens to everyone sooner or later. Listen, would you like to lie down for a while? At least until you feel somewhat human again?"

Amanda, with a funny feeling in her stomach, suddenly swallowed, and nodding, stated, "G-Good idea...But first-"

She quickly ran for the bathroom, and just made it to the toilet to upheave some more!

Lee grabbed a washcloth, and dampening it, put it on Amanda's forehead, commenting with relief, "At least your present outfit is still clean."

Amanda, getting up from the floor with Lee's help, remarked, "I haven't eaten anything! Why am I still doing that?"

Lee, after Amanda cleaned her face and they walked into his bedroom, said, "Your stomach still trying to settle down, but I guess coffee wasn't even a good remedy right now, unfortunately."

Getting her settled on his bed, he kissed her cheek stating with a gesture, "You get some rest...I'll be right out there if you need me, okay?"

Amanda nodded and asked, "Lee? What do I tell Mother about last night?"

Lee responded, "Billy gave the location scout excuse for now. Look, don't worry about it, huh? We'll see how you feel later, and go from there, alright?"

Amanda nodded, and then closed her eyes.

Lee gave one last look at his partner, and left the room, closing the door, thinking, Protein may be a good option for her later...Let's see what I have in the way of food...

Entering the kitchen, he went to open the fridge, and shook his head. He'd forgotten that she stocked up the other day after getting him home from the hospital, and in typical Amanda fashion, she had his fridge stocked full with varied items...including eggs!

He smiled as he uttered, "Ah! I'm saved! I can make my frittatas!

Setting to work, he spent the next hour and a half preparing, and then warming the pan of frittata squares in the oven while Amanda slept.

It was nearly lunchtime when Amanda emerged from the bedroom, and seeing Lee reading on the couch, stated, "Hi."

Lee rose from the couch, and walking towards her, gave her a peck on the cheek asking, "Hi, how are you doing?"

Amanda shrugged answering, "I'm-I'm okay. Actually hungry, if you can believe it."

Lee smiled, and taking her hand as they walked towards the dining room remarked, "Well, you're in luck, because I have for lunch, my world famous frittatas, made with spinach, eggs, and feta...Sound good?"

Amanda returned the smile as Lee seated her at the dining room table, and responded, "Sounds wonderful...You know, a nice mimosa would be great with that-"

But Lee shaking his head, commented quickly, "Uh, no, it wouldn't! I have water, or milk, which someone here knows I don't drink?"

With a guilty look, Amanda shrugged remarking, "Sorry, I'm just so used to getting it for my family, that-"

But Lee patted her shoulder stating, "It's okay. But when you go home later, please take it with you?"

Amanda nodded and queried as Lee headed towards the kitchen, "Um, what if you're making something for dinner, and you happen to need it?"

Lee called back to her, "Trust me, Honey, I will not be that desperate!"

Coming out of the kitchen moments later with a tray, Lee placed a glass of milk, and her plate of frittata squares in front of her, and then placed his own plate across from hers, and then seating himself, answered, "Bon Appetit..."

They ate in comfortable silence for a while, and when Amanda had finished her plate, Lee asked, "Would you like a bit more? I could heat it up-"

Amanda shook her head answering, with a smile, "No, thank you. It was plenty...So, what are your plans for the rest of the day?"

Lee remarked, "Well-"

Just then, there was a knock at the door. Lee, glancing at his watch, stated as he rose from the table, "That's probably Francine bringing the car back..."

Sure enough as he opened the door, it was Francine.

Handing Lee Amanda's car keys, she stated, "Here. Hope Amanda feels better, and again, Lee, I'm truly sorry for everything that's happened-"

Then, Amanda appeared at the door next to Lee, and answered matter of factly with a sigh, "Francine, please come in. I've had some more rest, and finally eaten something, but the two of us do need to clear up some things..."

Lee, with concern, commented lightly, "But, Amanda, I think everything that needed to be said was said. And as for the incident with you two, I say, let's just move on, huh?"

Francine, sensing more trouble ahead, stated defensively as she moved past Lee into the apartment, "You know something, Amanda? You're right. Last night was a mistake...But you and I are I believe, sensible women who can work out our issues in a more reasonable way...In other words, Honey... Bring it on!"

Lee, closing the door quickly, eyed the two perturbed women nervously, who then faced one other in the living room with their arms crossed over their chests, looking as though ready to battle, and shaking his head, thought, Oh, my God! What did I do to deserve this today?!
