Laura was happy. She was home with Luke and Lulu. Lulu was talking about dress shopping and Laura was advising her to pick out the dress that made her happy when Nikolas entered, carrying a baby boy that Laura's arms ached to hold.

"Hello. I thought it was about time that the two of you met," Nikolas happily smiled, carrying the baby over to Laura, whose eyes were wide with joy.

"Oh my god, Nikolas. He is gorgeous!" Laura gasped in delight, her eyes drinking in her grandson. "Hello, sweetheart!"

"When he gets big, I'm sure he'll say the same thing about you," Nikolas chuckled.

"Can I hold him?" Laura asked eagerly.

"Yes, of course," Nikolas handed baby Spencer right over to her.

"What a beautiful beautiful baby! Hello! Aren't you a big boy!" Laura cooed, holding the baby up to get a better look at him. She cradled the baby in her arms. "Oh honey, I'm sorry that I wasn't here when you were born. But you know what? I'm going to make up for lost time. I'm going to take you out for walks. I'm going to take you to picnics. I'm going to take you to the zoo…"

So many plans, and so little time, but she was determined to accomplish all of them with her beloved grandson. He was so beautiful, innocent, and naive, and he needed her in a way that she hadn't been needed in a long time…

..

Curtis sat by Laura's bedside, not liking what he was seeing. Her eyes were opened, but she was just staring into space. It was like she wasn't there. Elizabeth had said she was in shock. Her mind couldn't deal, so she was off in her own world. She probably couldn't even hear what was said to her. But Curtis didn't care. He had a promise to make. He took her hand in his and squeezed it tight.

"You were so brave back there, Laura. Brave and heroic. You really did save Port Charles and brought most of our loved ones home...and I know we're missing one. That's why I'm here. I said that we were going to break that curse of Helena's and I meant it. We are. I am. I am going back to Greenland, Laura. I am going back and I am going to go look for Spencer and bring him home to you and Trina. I promise. Just hang tight, alright? Wherever you are, I hope that it's pleasant and free of worry. Just be ready to come back to us, alright? We'll be back. I promise."

He patted her hand and got to his feet. He looked at her one last time, feeling sad that this was the outcome of their rescue mission. Laura didn't deserve this. She deserved to have all of her loved ones back. Both of her grandsons, not just one.

"Curtis. Please, don't go," Portia stepped into his path as he headed for the elevator. "You're needed here. You don't even know if Spencer is still alive…"

"Trina needs me in Greenland looking for the man she loves, Portia. If it was me, wouldn't you want someone out there looking for me? To bring me home, whether I was dead or alive?"

Portia took a deep breath and nodded. "I just hate this…"

"I know. But this is for Trina...and Laura, who has once again helped me keep Trina safe."

Portia winced, remembering the Cyrus Renault situation where Laura had exchanged herself for her and Trina's safety. Curtis was right. She owed Laura more than one. "Ok, go. But be safe."

"Well, with Victor Cassadine dead, that's more than doable," Curtis chuckled, stepping away from his wife, just to run into Taggert. "Taggert."

"Where are you going? Where's Trina?"

"Trina's in one of the exam rooms getting looked over. I'm on a flight back to Greenland to look for Spencer. Trina believes that he's still alive. I promised to go back and bring him home to her," Curtis explained.

Taggert hesitated and then he sighed. "Hold up. I'm coming with you."

Curtis was surprised at this. He hadn't expected help from Marcus Taggert. "I'm off to rescue the man your daughter loves…"

"Exactly. I'm not going to let you get all the glory man. It's bad enough that you had left me out of the original rescue mission. This probably wouldn't have happened if you had given me a call."

"I wasn't trying to leave you out. It was just that, all of our minds were on finding the kids and bringing them back and stopping Victor's plans...we really didn't think about anything or anyone else. I'm sorry, man."

"Save your sorry. Just let me join you now. Two pairs of eyes are better than one, right?" Taggert reasoned, really wanting to do something to help his daughter, and in his eyes, this was indeed the best way.

"Fine. I'm going now before that plane gets rechartered. You have to come now."

"Alright. Now you're talking," Taggert looked at the tearful Portia and managed a smile. "Look after our little girl, yeah?"

"Of course. Just be careful...and bring Curtis and Spencer back safe if you can."

Taggert simply nodded and followed Curtis into the elevator.

…..

Elizabeth stood outside of Laura's room, her heart breaking. She had never thought she'd see this again. Laura catatonic, not talking to anyone. No warm hugs. No good advice. Her body was there...but her spirit was elsewhere. Laura had been like a mother to her all these years and it scared her to see her like this again. What if this was it and she never came out of it? Then what? She understood the grief that Laura was feeling. It was a grief that this woman had visited time and time again, but this time...it was too much. The poor woman probably felt that the world held nothing and no one for her anymore. Not really. Not when all the people she loved kept being taken away.

She took out her cell phone, wondering if she should call him. The one child that Laura had left that wasn't missing or in a coma. Would Lucky come if he knew how bad off Laura was? What if he didn't? What if he did? He'd be furious with her if she didn't call. He'd want to know that Laura was catatonic again. She should at least give him the chance to come to see about his mother. Making up her mind, she dialed the number, hoping that Lucky would be the man he once was...before the fire that had taken him from his family...the fire that had changed everything.

"Hello?" Lucky answered, sounding distracted.

"Hey, it's Elizabeth. I know it's been a while."

There was a silence on the other line, making Elizabeth think that maybe he had hung up, but then he spoke again after a minute.

"Elizabeth, hey. Are the boys ok?" The concern in his voice reminded her of the pre-fire Lucky and it made her heart skip a beat, despite herself.

"The boys are fine. It's...it's Laura, Lucky. Your mother needs you," tears edged Elizabeth's voice as she remembered what had caused Laura's condition. Spencer was troubled, but kind. He was loyal to a fault when it came to Cameron...someone else she had to call.

"What happened?"

"I...I can't go into detail over the phone...but she's catatonic again, Lucky. Nikolas is gone, Lulu is in a coma, and…"

"I'm on my way," Was all Lucky said before hanging up.

Putting her phone away, Elizabeth noticed Trina, with Ace still in her arms coming out of one of the examination rooms. The lost look in her eyes reminded her of a time years ago when she had been only a few years younger than Trina had been now. She could still hear the sirens. She could still smell the smoke from the fire. She could remember the sight of the subway token hanging from trembling hands and the devastation that sent her to her knees.

Then she also remembered Bobbie's arms wrapping around her, keeping her from losing herself completely. Without thinking too much, she walked up behind Trina and wrapped her arms around her, holding the trembling girl close.

"You're going to be ok. You are going to get through this, I promise," Elizabeth reassured the young college student, knowing that the girl's heart must be breaking right now.

"He has to come back," Trina began to sob, leaning into Elizabeth's embrace. "He can't be gone…"

"Do you feel that he's gone?"

Trina shook her head no.

"Well then go with your feelings. If you don't feel him gone, then he's not. Then he'll come home to you, just like…" Elizabeth stopped herself from saying just like Lucky had come home to me, because in reality, Lucky had never come back home to her. Not really. Helena had twisted his mind so much, he was never the same again.

Hopefully, Trina will have a better outcome. Hopefully, Spencer will be found, alive and his mind intact. He'll be whole, not the shell of the boy that he used to be, trying to fit into a life that just didn't fit him anymore.
