Hello my dear readers!
As some of you might know, I am a UK resident and yesterday, our new King was crowned and this weekend is a special holiday in honour of his coronation, Long live King Charles the 3rd, and in honour of this occasion, I decided to write a Oneshot fic!
I hope you enjoy it and might learn a thing or two!
Fit for a Queen!
"…Hail, King Arthur, Long live the King!"
The ending sound to the Disney film the Sword in the Stone played and Pandora and Kemeko sighed disappointed that it was the end of the film.
Now that their film was over, they had to find something else to do.
The eight-year-old lizard turtle Hybrid and the five-year-old human Asian girl climbed off the sofa and their Orange masked turtle uncle Michelangelo hopped over.
"Film over girls?" he asked.
Pandora and Kemeko nodded.
"Sweet!" Michelangelo said gleefully, "Now I can play some video games!"
"Not so fast Michelangelo!" the voice of an elderly rat who walked over with some steaming Jasmine tea as well as some muffins "Haven't you forgotten what time it is?"
Michelangelo's face fell as he realised.
"Oh yeah." He said, "it's your soaps sensei."
Splinter nodded with a chuckle.
"Yes, indeed my son." He said, "I will inform you when you can play your games, or better yet, if you ask the girls nicely you can use their TV in their playroom."
"Oh yeah! Good idea! Thanks Sensei!" Michelangelo cheered, he then looked at Pandora and Kemeko.
"Please can I borrow your TV? Please girls, please?" he asked in a cute voice and battled his eyes making the girls giggle.
They looked at each other, nodded, and smiled then turned to Michelangelo.
"Go on then!" they said in that voice Monalisa often used when they gave her the cute look and voice when begging for something they wanted.
"Thank you!" Michelangelo squealed "Love you girls so much!" he said giving them a tight squeeze and then he skipped away towards the girl's playroom.
Splinter laughed then turned the TVs on to watch his soaps.
As that happened, Pandora turned to her human cousin.
"It would be interesting to have a King or Queen in America huh Kem?" she said, "We have a president, but we don't have a King or Queen, I wonder why?"
"We don't have a Royal Family?" Kemeko asked.
"Nope!" said Pandora "We have a President!"
Kemeko thought for a moment.
"Where does the Royal Family live?" she asked her Hybrid cousin.
"Ink-land." Pandora replied.
"Where's That?" Kemeko asked.
"It's um…well…." Pandora paused "It's…. it's…."
"A very long way from here, towards the east side of the planet." A voice made the girls jump and they turned to see their other uncle, the purple masked, gentle, and intelligent turtle Donatello.
"Uncle Donnie!" the girls cried.
"Hey nippers!" Donatello laughed stroking the top of their heads making them giggle "Sorry, didn't mean to scare you!"
"It's okay Uncle Don!" Pandora smiled "I was just saying it would be cool if we had a King or Queen in America."
"Really?" Donatello smiled "Well, if you like, I can tell you about the Royal Family in what you call 'Inkland' Little Geisha?"
"Really?" Pandora asked excitedly.
"Yeah!" Donatello smiled "I know it's a Saturday and School's out till Monday, but learning can still be fun right?"
"Yeah!" Kemeko cheered.
"So, what do you say kids?" Donatello asked, "Would you like to meet me in the classroom, and I'll give you a special lesson?"
"Yes, please Uncle Don!" the girls said together happily.
"Very well then!" Donatello grinned "Let's go!"
Ten minutes later, Pandora and Kemeko were sitting at a couple of desks in the classroom area in the Lair along with some drinks and snacks with included fruit, nuts, and cookies.
Donatello had brought up a map of the world and he picked up a long stick to point out places of interest.
"So here is where we are in the United States of America." The turtle said tapping the map with his stick "And this is our state, New York, and our city, New York!"
He looked at the curious girls before him and as much as he wanted to babble on about all he knew about the History of England and the Monarchy he knew he had to make it as simple as possible for them to process the information.
Kemeko was at the kindergarten level and Pandora was on 3rd grade level.
"And England or as you say Pandora 'Inkland' is all the way over here, on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean!" he pointed to a tiny island on the other side of the map, or at least it looked like a tiny island compared to the whole of the United States of America.
The two girls stared in awe as Donatello told them about how England or rather the United Kingdom had had a Monarchy since the 9th century.
He then got clever and used his laptop to project pictures of the different Kings and Queens through the ages along with their flags and banners, all the while the girls sat and watched and barely spoke as they listened.
"Why are there more Kings than Queens?" Pandora asked.
Donatello bit his lip as he wasn't sure how to answer that question, since in the early ages, men had been given the titles more than women as men were seen as superior, and in some cases around the world, that attitude still existed.
"That's something I'll have to explain when you're older Little Geisha." He replied to which Pandora gave a pout in disappointment making Donatello laugh.
"Anyway," the turtle continued "Since the 9th Century there has always been a Royal Family, many more famous than others because of how they shaped the country and how they became aware of us over here and formed alliances and allegiances during Wars.
"Wow…" the girls breathed.
Donatello nodded then he typed into his laptop and as he spoke, he brought up different portraits of certain monarchs.
"A few notable Royals are Alfred the Great who is known for his valiant defence of his Kingdom against his enemies, and securing peace with the Vikings, your Uncle Tyroth's ancestors!"
The girls grinned excitedly.
"William the Conqueror, who hence is name conquered England in 1066 at the Battle of Hastings! Henry the Eighth who had six wives!"
As Donatello mentioned Henry the Eighth, Pandora started humming the song 'Henry the 8th I am!' making Kemeko giggle.
"Six wives?" the Asian girl asked, "All at once?"
Donatello shook his head.
"Oh no Lotus, one at a time." He then went onto the next picture which showed a Queen in a white dress and flaming red hair.
"Then there's Elizabeth the First who is famous for being the second Queen in History to rule in her own right, and she was known as the Virgin Queen as she had no King next to her and she reigned for forty-five years!"
"Cool!" Pandora grinned "I like her!"
"Queen Victoria was another and she has been the longest ruling monarch to date since she ruled for sixty-four years!"
"Awesome!" Pandora grinned "I like her too!"
"Me too!" Kemeko agreed.
"Right now, though." Donatello continued then brought up a photo of England's current Queen Elizabeth the second.
"England has a Queen, and she has reached the same mark as Victoria and who knows she might beat her record being the longest reigning monarch!"
"I hope so!" Pandora grinned "That would be so cool!"
Kemeko agreed.
"There's never been a King that's reigned longer than Elizabeth the 1st, 2nd and Queen Victoria!" Donatello grinned "In fact the longest reigning King was George the 3rd and he was on the throne for fifty-nine years and three months!"
"Wow!" Kemeko gasped "Really!?"
Donatello nodded.
"Shows women are the best!" Pandora cheered "Girl Power!"
"Yeah!" Kemeko agreed and the girls high fived each other laughing.
Donatello smiled as he watched, and he felt proud he was able to teach something to the girls who were so interested in a different culture and traditions.
"Well, now you girls have learnt something new." The purple masked turtle suggested "How about we do some crafts like making crowns or painting pictures about what you learnt?"
The girls cheered as they agreed and at once, Donatello went to a cupboard and brought out paper, cardboard, paints, glitter, and glue so the girls could get creative.
"I love the Queens Victoria and Elizabeth!" Pandora smiled.
"Me too!" Kemeko said "I want to learn more about them!"
"Me too!" Pandora said.
"Well then!" Donatello smiled as he placed the crafts on the desks "If you like, we can do some studies on those queens, and you can discuss the differences and similarities to them and give a presentation to the grown-ups?"
"Sure thing Uncle Don!" the girls said as they looked through the crafts.
A couple of hours later, the other turtles, Splinter and Monalisa were gathered in the kitchen diner to have dinner.
Monalisa with the help of Michelangelo had cooked up some stew, casseroles, and soup along with warm baked bread and salads.
"Where's Donnie and the girls?" Leonardo asked curiously.
"I did call them for dinner five minutes ago." Michelangelo said.
Monalisa placed the last item on the table which was some serving spoons before looking to the entrance of the kitchen diner.
She wondered whether to go and find her daughter, niece and adopted young brother to remind them it was dinner time, but as she did, she saw Donatello walk in with Pandora and Kemeko.
"Here we are!" Donatello cheered as he walked in with the two girls.
As the other grown-ups looked towards the doorway, they saw Donatello was wearing a gold paper crown on his head decorated with glitter, and the girls were wearing similar ones along with some pictures they had painted as well as some other crowns they had made.
Michelangelo and Raphael looked a little confused, but Monalisa laughed.
"Oh Donnie! What have you and the girls been doing all afternoon?"
"After watching the Disney Film 'The Sword in the Stone' they wanted to learn about the Royal Family in the United Kingdom!" Donatello explained "So I gave them a little history lesson then they decided to paint pictures and make crowns for all of you!"
"Is that so?" Splinter asked intrigued as he looked over.
"Yes Grandpa!" Kemeko said excitedly "We got a crown for all of you!"
"Yes, we do!" Pandora added and she ran over to her parents and Michelangelo and gave them a crown each.
As the hybrid presented them with a crown, Monalisa, Raphael and Michelangelo knelt to the child's level, to let her place the crowns on their heads and Leonardo and Splinter did the same when Kemeko placed a crown each on their heads.
"We made two extra ones for Uncle Casey and Aunt April!" Kemeko announced placing the two extra ones on the table.
"I'm sure they will love them!" Leonardo smiled as he kissed his adopted daughter "Thank you so much!"
Kemeko grinned and blushed and as the turtles, Splinter and Monalisa looked at each other, they laughed, and they took a few photos of each other on their Shell-cells.
"Can't wait to show everyone in Mutopia!" Michelangelo said, "I think Kate would love it!" he then looked at the girls "Think you could make one for Aunt Katie?" he asked.
"And Aunt Sephie and Amber?" Monalisa requested.
"I think everyone might want one!" Raphael laughed "Seeing how cool we all look!"
"We can do that dad!" Pandora smiled.
"Awesome!" Michelangelo cheered.
"Shall we put your paintings up on the fridge so everyone can see them?" Monalisa asked as she looked at the artwork her daughter and niece did to which the two girls agreed.
As the Lizard Lady put the pictures up, she could see the girls had tried to paint pictures of the two queens they were fascinated by, Elizabeth the 1st and 2nd and Queen Victoria.
"What lovely pictures!" she said, "You've both worked so hard!"
The girls grinned as they sat down to their dinner.
As everyone sat down to eat, Donatello couldn't help but feel proud of himself, feeling he was able to pass on what he knew about the traditions and history of abroad to his nieces, especially since England had been responsible in the discovery of the USA and he hoped he could teach them the history of the making of the USA due to the explorers of England and Europe but until the girls were old enough he could prepare until then.
But right now, the brainy turtle felt glad he was able to share his knowledge with his nieces and he couldn't wait to do more in the years to come.
