A/N
This fanfiction is based off a very old story I wrote when I was much younger, when I first really learned about Magic: The Gathering (MTG). I was playing Magic: 2014 & 2015 Duel of the Planeswalkers, and was inspired to write out my own character's journey. This document serves as an archive for that old story, which I have copied and pasted, only fixing some grammatical errors but otherwise keeping it unedited. It certainly reeks of silly Self-Insert Mary Sue-ness, and in some cases (especially at the ending) can get a little silly and cringy. Still, it's quite nostalgic for me to read over what I wrote years ago on paper.
A few other notes, is that when I was writing this I had very little knowledge about MTG, only what I knew from the aforementioned online games I had access to. I was only presented with the world and ran off with what I knew.
With that out of the way, I hope you enjoy!
First Adventure
After arriving in the Multiverse, I begin my quest. I have a special guise to protect my identity. First, I learn the basics of magic by fighting five different goblins. Then I meet Planeswalker Chandra Nalaar. She challenges me and I win.
"Well, I guess I underestimated you," she said, "You're a good fighter. I could use some help. What do ya say?"
After agreeing to help her, she explains the situation. She couldn't resist "taking" (wasn't too happy about that) a powerful fire scroll that showed a map to Zendikar. She and Jace Beleran, who thought it was a trap, followed it and they were forced to work together to stop the Planeswalker/dragon Ramaz from destroying them. Chandra then learned that the whole thing was a set up. She went off to find Ramaz and prove no one controlled her. This is what she told me to help her find him.
[Innistrad]
Ramaz gave me a pendant from a plane called Innistrid. The mark on it symbolizes some militant order there. If you can track down the owner, maybe they'll know something about Romaz. Careful though. Nothing's more dangerous zealots more dangerous than armed
I(a). On Innistrad, I showed the pendent to a villager in the gloomy province of Nephalia. She pointed me northwest to Thraben. Crossing the moors, I became lost in the mists. The smell of death hung in the murk. Suddenly, I was attacked by a horde of zombies. Stumbling upon a graveyard, I fought them off, including the giant one made of a jumble of rotting parts and carcasses. They were slow and using the white mana, I defeated them within minutes. Turning the bodies to ashes so they could never be reanimated, I checked the graveyard and placed a blessing so that the unopened graves' bodies would never be able to be reused for evil purposes. Then I moved on.
I(b). At the edge of an isolated town of Skirdag a shadowy figure approached me. "I have the answer you seek," he whispered. I followed him to an underground chamber, where hooded figures appeared from the alcoves chanting "The price is blood!" They were Shadowborn apostles! They attacked me, intent on a sacrifice ritual. They tried to drag me to the large stone. the center but I used some green mana to summon ferocious creatures. The cultists were easily beaten back but six of them began chanting, "Born of shadow come, blood spilt. Come. Kill our enemies! Then they dropped dead and turned to smoke. It reformed into a summoned Shadowborn Demon (now an actual spiritual entity), a physical creature of death. I conjured a powerful beast, and my creatures destroyed the demon. Most of the cultists fled but my beast captured a few, including the shadowy leader. I tied them up and had the strong creatures carry them to the nearest town where they were imprisoned.
I(c). I reached Thraben, where my strange appearance causes people to follow and gather. I showed the pendant to an elder in hopes of allaying suspicion. My hopes were dashed when he screams, "Thief!" The mob closed in. I summoned some small creatures and soldiers to hold them off. I didn't want to hurt them, but I was forced to knock out some. After I summoned more creatures and knocked out a few, the mob backed up, afraid.
I(d). As the mob retreated, a soldier in gleaming armor stood before me. "I know nothing of this Ramaz," he said, "but I know that pendant. Prove your worthiness to bear it. Fail and I will reclaim Avacyn's holy Sigil and cast you to the dogs."
I unsummoned my warriors. He charged and we fought. It was a long, hard clash. Sigismund was an excellent fighter. The battle raged for a while but I eventually began to gain the upper hand. With a quick whack! his sword flew from his hand. He looked at me, shocked.
"You are worthy or Wearing the sigil, stranger," he said. "I don't know of a man named Ramaz but I know of a sigil that was stolen recently. The thief went to Shandalar...Perhaps you can find him there." I thanked him and gave the village a set of rune-inscribed cubes that could summon spectral guardians. My mission on Innistrad was done.
I(e). As I left the village, I chanced upon Garruk Wildspeaker. He seemed dark, and in a rage challenged me. Our creatures fought with vigor but in the end I prevailed. He fled, black magic lingering around him.
[Shandalar]
S(a). I journeyed to Shandalar seeking a craftsman in the kingdom of Thune. Along the way I met a band of cloaked figures. They pulled out crude-looking blades. "Give us your gold!" one said and advanced. The fight was over before it began. The thieves were easily knocked out.
S(b). I arrived at one of the large cities of Thune. It was bustling with merchants and craftsmen. I was able to find the man I seek among them. He was a powerful businessman and told me this: "I do know of some Ramaz making deals with criminals and such. Rumor is he's making some great plan. He left a few weeks ago going North." Leaving the town I headed out, intent on finding Ramaz.
S(c). As I passed through the forest of Kolia. As I passed through the woods, a mysterious mist appeared with a hole of nothingness in the middle. I jumped back, as a dark hooded mage stopped forth.
Sneering he said "Clever. But let's see how good you really are." He said he was Ashurel, a void rage, (I believe the void is a space of nothingness). I summoned a minotaur but he used a void share and said "I've tried so many variations on how to get rid of annoying things that it's hard to know which one I like best." He used the trick more times, so I resorted to spells, which he was unable to counter. He crumpled to his knees. I grabbed and said, "Why are you here?! Did someone send you?!" He looked at me then gasped as an arrow pierced his heart.
S(d). Purple clothed women appeared, each holding a scythe. One stood out as the leader, looked at me and said "A Planeswalker. The torture shall be truly fun tonight." The sadists. rushed at me, intent on blood. I fought them off with spells and creatures, but there were dozens of them. The leader wounded me in the leg, but I still fought. They had me circled when a sword flew through the air and hit a sadist in the leg. A group of Elite Vanguards rushed Forward, punching and swinging, They knocked out troves of sadists. Together, we defeated the entire group. One of the Vanguards looked at me and said "What are you doing so far from your land, wherever, that is?" I explained the situation to him. "Well," he said "I've heard of a Planeswalker who's been traveling these ports. He was staying somewhere when he suddenly fled to Alara." I thanked him and set off.
S(e) I was told to go to a nearby village by one of the Vanguards because some "man in blue" had been looking for me. It turned out to be Jace Beleran, who fought me because someone was paying him to "slow me down". Long story short, he lost. But I wonder who paid him…
[Alara]
A(a). I arrived in Alara, in the land of Bant. I went into one of the noble families of Askra to see if they knew anything. It turns out someone had sent me a message to travel to Jund. I set off, only to be confronted by a Death Baron, seeked to "recruit" me to his army. But I'm afraid I refused and he was left with·less servants than before.
A(b). Along my way, I met a Rhox (a species of man/rhino) named Roru. We traveled through Naya together, but I became aware of something deeper in the jungle. We were attacked by Deacon behemoths and a mycoloth and many other creatures. They seemed to be fleeing something deeper in the jungle, so I followed Roru to investigate.
A(c) As we traveled deeper, I noticed signs of destruction. Burnt trees, claw marks, broken and ripped up paths of earth and foliage. Eventually we tracked down the source of the destruction to a jungle share. Dragons! A group of a dozen or so. I couldn't believe it! Dragons are solitary creatures, rarely if ever, get along. They were hunting and destroying the terrain. I knew we couldn't take them alone, so Roru distracted them while I built up a mana charge. Then I summoned angels, knights. and their lion steeds, warriors and such. The battle was a fierce one but we prevailed. After I sent the summoned creatures back, Roru said to me, "Thank you for helping me. I do not know how dragons would come together, but someone powerful might have been able you, and as gratitude take this." He handed me a small sigil. "I can't take this," I said. Roru looked at me and said "No, you truly deserve it. Fare well in quest, Ryshem." I thanked him and gave him a small, ornamented oval, to call for me if he needed me.
A(d). Resuming my course, I traveled to a distant castle in the war-torn region of Jund. Inside was a group of Kathari, pteranodon/humans. "I was told to come here," I said to one on an old, ivory throne. "Yes, a message out back." he sneered, "too bad you won't hear it." Then dozens of Kathari sprang on me, flying with staffs firing fire and energy. I summoned an angel to aid me and went into the fray. They flew out of my reach, but a few good shots took them. down. The battlegrace angel awakened from summoning sickness and flew through the air. The Kathari stood no chance
A(e). Out in the back of the crumbling castle, I was shocked to meet Chandra! She was too and asked "Why are you here?" I explained and learned that she also had been told to come here, with a message. She did not know who wanted her to do it, because the dealer was robbed, but she was going to get paid well if she did. I opened the note and it read: If you are reading this, then you have gotten farther than I thought. We shall meet soon. -Ramaz
I recognized the ink as that of a special painting group on Ravnica.
Before I left though, Chandra wanted to see if you can still fight, " So we fought, again, and she lost, again.
[Ravnica]
R(a). I traveled to the Selesnya Guild where the Conclave was able to identify that Ramaz had been here. Suddenly the ground began to shake, and a siege wurm battered down a wall! It was huge, with steel plates as a battering ram! It crushed houses and buildings into rubble. I raced out, and tried out a new trick; electromancy. With a yell I shot a bolt of lightning from my hand. It slammed into the wurm. as it writhed in pain. I poured more mana into it, and it intensified. A few soldiers rushed out as I relented. They stabbed and cut at it, but the warm, was too weak to move. A few hours later, the wurm had been dissected and the rubble was beginning to be cleaned. One of the men gave me a note that was on the wurm:
Turn back from this foolish quest. You have complicated my plans enough. But I adapt quickly. Turn or die. But if you insist on this idle journey, meet me at the Dimir.
R(b). As I traveled the maze-like streets, I came upon Foundry St. A group of constables were patrolling when a fight began to break out. One of the constables hit the group of goblins fighting. That was a mistake. Every goblin in the area stopped what they were doing and advanced. The riot began. The goblins grabbed bludgeons and attacked everyone in sight, People ran and screamed as the constables were overwhelmed. I had to quiet the crowd quickly, so a few soldiers and sleeping spells did the job. Once the goblins saw what I could do, anger turned to fear, and they ran. One of the constables thanked me.
"Perhaps you should try to earn their trust." I said. I asked for directions to the Dimir, which he happily complied to.
R(c).I entered the gloomy, shadowy, sewer-like Dimir Guild. I crossed through various passageways when a shadowy black woman appeared. Her skin was white, her hair dark black, and she snarled at me, revealing two white fangs. A necropolis regent.
"We heard you were coming!" she hissed, "But you won't go anywhere unless we say!"
A horde of rats, ravenous and in a frenzy, poured out of pipes and rooms. A moroii (batlike vampire creature) and a group of vampires appeared out of the darkness. The rats poured out like a flood. I decided this would be a nice chance to practice some pyromancy.
I summoned Crimson mages, Fire Creatures, and Regathan Firecats. Rats burn easily evidently. And vampire's don't like fire. After I burned her little minions, I demanded that the necropolis regent show me where to go. I was getting close
I continued to travel. the increasingly dark catacombs. Everything was gloomy and dark, Even the rats tried to attack me. I did see a few people, who watched me intently. They whispered to each other, and quickly disappeared.
I came upon a room of torture devices and wicked machinery. Suddenly, a resounding thud was heard and I looked to see a mindleech mass stepped in the doorway. More creatures appeared. dinrova horrors, smog elementals that appeared out of vents. Apparently they didn't want to try taking me on themselves. They sent the beasts after me. So, I fought beast with beast. I burned the mind-leech mass with a blast of fire, and cut the dinrova horrors. The beasts I summoned made short work of the rest. The smog elementals were tricky, but a good tornado took care of them.
Someone ran out behind the machinery (to observe what would happen to me). I grabbed the girl, or at least it was a girl. The body began to shape, like mold, into a different one. A shapeshifter. I held them tight, and had them lead the way I needed to go.
R(d). The shapeshifter led me to a large catacomb, with the moon actually above me. After putting a spell on the shapeshifter that stopped his ability to change form, I looked around. A whistle went through the air. I ducked and looked behind me to see dozens upon dozens of Dimir guildmages, in white masks and dark robes. Groups of Slate Street ruffians and scoundrels appeared. And a vile screech shook the air. A doomsday specter flew through the air with its rider. It was a large, gray snake with bat-like wings and two scaly feet. Its rider, with bat wings and dark cloak, dived toward me. I jumped down. and landed with the wicked guildsmen around me. They circled in. This was to be a bloody fight.
I summoned all I had, beasts, warriors, everything. Fire, water, all mana flowed through the air. I Kicked this guy, blasted this guy, etc. I fought with all I had. My summoned creatures fought valiantly. I know not how long the battle took, but it seemed like eternity for me. The doomsday specter dove down, but with a mighty swing I lopped its head off. The rider was next. When the battle was over, there lay around me bloody and weak bodies of men moaning in pain. I tied them up and sent them to some authorities.
While I looked around the room, I came upon a poster with my face. It read: Wanted, dead Payable of 39000 coins
So that was why everyone wanted me. After more looking around, I found Ramaz's possessions. He must have left in a hurry, because he left a map. It was one of Zendikar, my next destination.
R(e). Before I left, I heard of a Planeswalker, Ajani Goldmane. He was a leonin, and I wanted to get acquainted with him. I fought him in a friendly duel, and I must say I liked this fellow the best. Good, strong, and sacrificial. I hoped to meet him again.
[Zendikar]
Z(a). I arrived at Zendikar, following the map. But, as with all my missions, someone seemed intent to stop me. This time, it was some death cultists with a giant scorpion. I must say the battle was fairly easy, compared to the last one. The cultists were left broken and bruised, with their pet dead.
Z(b). I headed to the Mul Daya, an elvish clan. The map I had used led to a particularly dangerous region. The Mul Daya would have been able to help me navigate it. As I was traveling to their land, I was hunting some glade hast, bulky deer-like creature with four hung antlers. I had my bow and saw something, stirring in the bushes. I shot, and narrowly missed a Mul Dayan elf! He looked at me and yelled, " Murderer!"
Suddenly dozens of elves burst out and charged at me! I put my bow back and grabbed my fighting staff (I didn't want to kill them) Swung at one of them and whacked another. I summoned a few beasts to help me. Then I used the natural trees and plants to trap and ensnare elves. With my spells, skills, and summons, the elves were overpowered.
Z(c).I had trapped all the elves, and was trying to explain the predicament. Ther, a loud road thundered throughout the jungle, and a primal titan burst out! He swung at me but I avoided. More came striding forward. I freed the elves and they fought with me. The titans were slow and easy to hit. With the Mal Daya I defeated them. Explaining what had happened, they took me back to their village. The oracle there saw my intent, and said she would help me. The Mul Daya guided me on the path to finally confronting Romaz. I was coming.
Z(d). I was on a rocky crevice, with floating helixes around. Jace Beleron and Chandra were there. I had summoned them as I came close to my destination.
"Are you sure we're at the right place?" asked Chandra.
"Yes," I replied "The map leads just over there."
We followed it and climbed to the top of a cliff. There, we found one of the diamond-shaped stones, cracks of blue on its face. Ramaz and his minions were trying something to break it. Chandra shot a fire ball, incinerating one of his soldiers. Ramaz turned and looked at me.
"You! How dare you interrupt my plans!"
"What are you doing Ramaz!?" asked Jace
Ramaz chuckled and said, "My master, Nicol Bolas, seeks to enhance his powers. These stones once contained the powers of the Eldrazi. These stones around us contain more power than you could ever imagine! My master sent me to collect this power for himself. Through a long process, I managed to break and mease the mora of this stone! But why stop there?! I Con collect more power to strengthen our soldiers, power our weapons. We will be unstoppable!"
"Then why did you attack us?" asked Chandra.
"Because we needed great power sources to release the mana. So I had you two come here, as a means of a mana source. But since you've escaped, I've had to rely on…other sources," he said with a smile.
"As for you!" Ramaz said, glaring at me, "you have ruined all my plans! I had the dragons. on Alara to cause chaos, the Dimir deals were going splendid, until you came!"
"So you sent out the reward for me," I said.
"Of course! Now, you all shall feel my wrath and serve as power sources, stripped of mana and power!" he yelled, and began to change. Claws emerged from his hands, wings and a tail burst out. His body grew in mass into a raging dragon. Ramaz's soldiers plunged their hands into glass containers of the mana. Cracks of blue energy flowed through their body, visible on their skin. They charged with vigor. Jace, Chandra, and I fought hard, but the warriors were stronger and faster. We fought hard, and had knocked all of them out, when a roar shook the ground. Ramaz had lines of magic on his scaly skin. He breathed a mix of blue wisps and scorching fire. He knocked us back with a swing of his tail. Chandra tried to burn him, but the scales were impervious! He released a wave of fire, which I tried to shield from. I strained against him but couldn't hold on much longer.
"Die, servant of Nicol Bolas!"
Ajani Goldmore jumped out of nowhere, slamming his ax into Ramaz's head! He swung hard, enough to buy us time. I looked around, and then I knew what to do. I summoned the mana from the stone, and charged it into a sphere around me. I shot a golden beam of light that collided into Ramaz. He screamed in agony. Chandra stood by my side and did the same, releasing a wave of fire. Jace shot one of blue and Ajani poured forth a golden beam of mana also. We four pushed against Ramaz. The cracks on his scales began to glow. I yelled, and with a surge, Ramaz exploded into oblivion. We had won! After that, I cleaned up the area and destroyed the stores (with help and a lot of effort). I gave my comrades a pendant - a circle - so that they could call me if need be. I was sad to leave, said my goodbyes and left. The mission was done.
Z(e). Important note: Right before I left that Multiverse, I quickly fought Liliana Vess. She summoned a few zombies and fled, on some quick journey. Something evil is amiss with her. I fear she may unleash great evil across the Multiverse.
Second Adventure
I found myself once again in the Multiverse. To start, I faced the Crimson, Azure, Onyx, Jade, and Alabaster mages. Then, I began the hunt for Garruk Wildspeaker. He had gone killing other Planeswalkers. I had to stop him. But before I did I had to slop a horde of monsters threatening to overrun a local village, I defeated them easily. It was time to begin the mission
[Innistrad]
The vampire, Sorin Markov, had invited me to his home plane of Innistrad to investigate the murders of several Planeswalkers. Could Garruk be behind this?
I(a). I was confronted by a horrible sight: the mangled body of a Planeswalker. From the shadows I heard a mad giggling and a chorus of groans. The corpse began to twitch. The ghoulcaller Gisa emerged, happy to add another "recruit" to her army. I burned the corpse to nothing, and raged against her troops. My summoned soldiers made quick work of her zombies and I finished her off.
I(b). Within a dank cave, a coven of chanting witches surrounded a skeletal being, glowing with arcane. I took a tentative step forward, all eyes falling on me. "Accursed one," the lich murmurs, "the killer of your kind hunts you." She then struck out with her mana. I dogged the attack, and the whole coven advanced on me. I guess trying to get information from witches is a bad idea. But they did confirm that Garruk was killing Planeswalker and in all probability, hunting me. I took out the witches with some spells and such, and they may be good at magic, but they are terrible fighters
I(c). I came across another of Garruk's victims. The strange garb identified the corpse as a Planeswalker. Feral vampires had claimed the remains for their meal - and I was the second course. They came upon me with a terrible rage. They jumped upon me, ready to feast on my flesh. But not a one got a taste. I pushed them back, and summoned angels, warriors, elves, and creatures of light. The vampires were outmatched and defeated.
I(d). The angel Avacyn congratulated me on your success. But the challenges to come will require more. If I can defeat her in a test of power, she would know I was up to the task. The battle was harsh. Avacyn, being a Planeswalker herself, nearly defeated me with her troops and skill. It was a difficult fight, but in the end I prevailed.
Having tested me and found me worthy, Avacyn gave me a new clue as to Garruk's whereabouts: a coin he dropped. I recognized it as being from the polis of Meletis on a world known as Theros. One of the city's oracles might be able to tell me more.
[Theros]
When I arrived on Theros, I learned that the oracle I sought had been kidnapped by Tymaret, the Murder King, and taken into the wilds of Phoberos.
T(a). I wandered Phoberos, hunting Tymaret. I was looking at tracks when I heard a slithering sound. I looked back to see a nessian asp! It was a giant snake with two heads! It coiled and struck out, barely missing me. I jumped into the trees and began firing at it with glowing white arrows. The asp chased from tree to tree, but I eventually wore it down with my arrows.
And then I heard a thunderous roar. A stormbreath dragon swooped down out of the sky! And I could hear the loud steps of an arbor colossus! It was going to be a long day…
T(b). After killing the dragon and giant, I rested for a day. Resuming my course, I continued in search of the oracle. After some time of traveling I learned that the oracle had been taken across some sea. So I boarded a ship and crossed it. But along the way, our ship hit a large bump!
The ship stopped dead in its tracks! A large, terrifying tentacle wrapped around the deck. It was a kraken! A monstrous crab-like claw emerged out of the water. The ship stopped dead in its tracks! A large terrifying tentacle wrapped around the deck. It was a kraken! A monstrous crab-like claw emerged out of the water. A monstrous head of strange distortions, like a turtle, chopped the front of the ship! I knew what I had to do. Using the blue mana around me, I summoned all that I could. I jumped into the waves, and the bottle began. I commanded the waves to my will, throwing wave after wave at the creature. The battle was fierce. Waves thrashed the ocean. But in the end, my summoned creatures cut blows too deep. I summoned an orb of pure mana into my hands and smashed it into the creature's chest! Then, I was shot back, and just before I lost consciousness, I created a sphere of protection.
T(c). I woke up on shore. The kraken had smashed the ship and debris was everywhere. A few sailors too. I quickly used the water to bring a few survivors. I stood up. I was hurt and bruised, but okay. Then, I heard someone walking in the water! It was merfolk (of Theros)! One of them went up to the sailors and was about to plunge his sword into him before I intervened.
The merfolk roque group was small and so I easily handled them. I took care of the sailors, and from the rogues I learned of Tymaret, and that he had been seen in these parts. I left the sailors with some money for their way and went off.
T(d). I began my hunt again, catching on to the trail of my prey. Finally, I arrived at my destination.
A castle once grand lay in broken ruins. Torches and tents and newly-built cabins dotted the old fortress. To distract the guards, I summoned wild centaurs, which ran through the camp, smashing everything. All the soldiers came out, leaving me a chance to go in. I destroyed the accursed spirits that wandered the ruins on my way. I went deep into the heart of a huge chamber. Tymaret was on a pedestal, with the oracle chained and chanting some words of magic. I jumped into a fray, and quickly knocked out the guards.
The Murder King turned and yelled. "Attack, my pet!" Suddenly, a viscous, ginormous, two-headed cerberus dog charged at me. I pulled out my sword and cut its legs. Then I stabbed one of the heads in the throat and sliced the other one's throat as well. I looked to see Tymaret cut his arm, and blood fell into a small, carved pool.
Suddenly the ground shook and the stone crumbled. I charged at the king, who tried to defend himself, but I ended him quickly. Then the stones cracked and out of the ground a colossal snake broke through! It was huge, with a head the size of a bus. I grabbed the oracle, and as the Nemesis of Mortals charged head-first, I put my hand out.
A white wave blew out the castle and everything around it. I had used a lot of white mana to destroy the beast and protect us.
After getting away from the place, the oracle explained that Tymaret had forced her to summon the Nemesis of Mortals for himself. Grateful for being rescued she imparted to me Garruk's location: Ravnica. I thanked her, helped her get safe passage home and left for Ravnica. But before she left, the oracle gave me a warning and message: The power of the gods* had been weakening. Their servants, warriors, and priests who called on their power were getting little magic. Someone was taking the mana from the gods, other mages and the plane itself.
*Not actually deities.
[Ravnica]
R(a). I arrived at Ravnica and journeyed to the Azorius Guild. As the Senate and lawmakers, they told me that Garruk was seen in one of the many districts. When I got there, however, I found a corpse blockade of the dead. So I fought them off until there wasn't a single zombie in the whole region.
R(b). Going in further, I come across a whole flood of bandits, thieves, and criminals! A jailbreak had occurred, and the authorities could barely contain it. I rushed in with giant creatures to stop the onslaught. I fought all day, summoning, fighting, using spells. By night time I was bloody, bruised, but the prisoners were rounded up and contained.
R(c). I had followed a trail to another of Garruk's victims. But the corpse was claimed by an unholy group: gorgons. They were beautiful to be sure, but dozens of thick tentacles came out of their heads. They had a collection of beautiful jewelry around them. Gorgons crave beautiful things: gems, exquisite amulets, the alabaster corpses of the petrified dead. They came upon me with bloody fury. But my summoned angels took easy care of them.
R(d). I headed to the Isset Guild. I had heard that they were building a special weapon for someone powerful. And that Garrak was there too. I journeyed through their strange labs and rooms. I came upon Garruk fiercely threatening some scientists, with a strange dead body on the floor.
"Garruk Wild speaker!", I yelled "I challenge you!"
He knew I was a Planeswalker, and got a wild look in his eyes.
Our battle raged with a great ferocity. Garruk fought and summoned with a savage fury. But, after many wounds and bruises, I took him down. Using powerful white mana, I removed his dark curse. My mission was over. But it had just begun. The scientists told me that a while ago Liliana Vess paid them a lot to create a device that could siphon mana or magic. She then took the device, and had some more made. They told me she went to Shandalar. Then, I heard a tremendous explosion noise. I suddenly felt a strange pull, like something was being drained from me. I suddenly realized the mana from everything, objects, people, even the plane itself, was being sucked away!
"Liliana" I whispered. Realizing that things just got a whole lot harder, I grabbed Garruk, and transported to the plane of Shandalar. The real battle for the Multiverse had begun.
[Shandalar]
S(a). I had learned that the mana on Ravnica was behaving strange, ever missing, as if it were drained. I had to follow Liliana's trail and stop her. I went through a strange forest, misty and dark on my journey. Suddenly, a figure in black appeared! She was paler with black hair, and two fangs. A vampire. Then more appeared. They came upon me, but I used white mana to destroy them and the necromancer with them.
S(b). I had come across a village in the Kapsho seas of the merfolk. They said they would inform me of the location of Liliana, if I took care of the Chasm Skulker. I went out and faced the squid-like beast, killed it, and returned. Now that their threat was gone, the merfolk informed me. of where they had heard of Liliana residing in.
S(c). I had come upon a most strange device. It was stuck deep in the ground. Suddenly, there was a quick flash and I was knocked to the ground. I could only see a blur of what attacked me. I quickly cast a few spells to slow the beast down. When I had it trapped, I realized it was a primal hunt beast. It was like wolf-headed buffalo with boar tusks and glowing lines of light. I had time-trapped it, and killed it. Then, out of the bushes came an elven hunting party.
S(d). The elves had guided me to another, gigantic, device. If hummed with a dark mana. It was deeply embedded in the ground. Suddening the device glowed red and the ground began to shake. A marauding maulhorn! The creature looked ferocious.
"It's not just you. Everyone makes it angry," said Ardenoth, the elvish nature advocate.
The beast charged and so began a rampage. More creatures appeared. Dragons and worms. In time, I destroyed them, but the device would not break. I would have to continue to track down Liliana. I spotted something though. A cloth, one from the Mal Daya dan on Zendikar
[Zendikar]
Z(a). Zendikar was in chaos. The powerful hedrons were crumbling, drained of their knowledge and power. Powerful and magical beings had disappeared. Even the powerful Eldrazi were waning in power. The suspect: Liliana Vess. I began to follow her trail, that is, a trail of mona-sucked entities.
I started with a dead eldrazi. After facing the eldrazi's spawn (nasty little critters), I tried to follow the mana trail.
Z(b). I continued my path. I came across a large section of broken hedrons. Then, I saw a hedron crab and more climb out of rocks and such. I quickly fought them off when I saw a monstrous wind drake. It was similar to a dragon but I shot it down with a few good arrows.
Z(c). I knew that something big was going to happen, so I called out for Garruk, Ajani, Chandra, Jace, Nissa, Kiora, and Avacyn. Each had been given a special item by me, that could send a request for aid. We were now following close behind Liliana, but she had left behind tricks. As we walked, the earth began to tremble, and behold, a pelakka wurm of great size burst through the trees! My comrades and I, after a fearsome battle, managed to slay the beast. And then the giant skeletal remains of a wurm suddenly fit together. and came to life!
Z(d). After cleaning ourselves of wurm blood and sticky bones, we marched on. The path led us on a long march, and each of us got to know each other. Ajani was a true champion, valiant, loyal, and strong. Garruk doesn't like cities, but he is true to his word and loyal like an oak. Chandra is a wild child, untameable, but if you can befriend her, she is a true ally. She does steal a little bit though. Jace is a little egotistical, but loves knowledge and means well. Nissa is loyal to her people, and I've only helped her a few times before. Now she sees that elves could use the help of others. I've met Kiora on Theras before, and she is determined to stop the Eldrazi.
My companions and I journeyed for many days, traveling deeper into a Roil storm that was spreading and ripping apart the lord. In the center, on a high mountain, we found the epicenter. As we climbed the mountaintop began to break apart and float. On the top, we found her. Liliano Vess. She was wearing The Chain Veil, and mana seemed to flow into her.
"So you've come to stop me," she said.
"Stop this mad pursuit and we will relent!" yelled Ajani confidently.
"Fools," she said "I have more power than your pathetic minds! could dare comprehend! Let me show you true power!
Static spikes of mana broke through the ground and suddenly stabbed each of us. I looked around to see that I was above the ground, standing in the air.
"After I took the Chain Veil, I realized I didn't need those demon lords for power." Liliana's voice seemed to echo everywhere. Vivid pictures appeared before as she continued. "So I killed them, but then I realized I could take mana itself! The Isset Guild was only too happy to build the device that could take the magic itself! I stole the power of the gods on Theos, the raw mana on Shandalar, and the Eldrazi here," Suddenly we were back on Zendikar. She continued. "Now, I will activate the devices that I have placed in each plane and take all their mana. I shall reign supreme as the goddess of all!"
I looked up at her and said, "You are, and never will, be a god."
"Then die." she said back, and suddenly, great stone pillars broke through the ground. The purple runes glowed and flowed into Liliana. I could see the images now. Monsters turning to dust and their life flowing away, the waves of mana flowing from the ten guilds, the creatures and "gods" losing their strength, the raw mana disappearing from Shandalar, and the Eldrazi, hedrons, and the Roil itself flowed into Liliana. Lines & cracks of purple energy streaked across her body, and then her whole formed changed into a swirl of purple lines that flowed into the ground.
" Is she gone?" asked Avacyn.
Then the ground shook, and a terrible laughter emitted from everywhere. Suddenly, corpses grew out of the grounds, trees attacked us, and the earth began to grab us.
"You fools! I am the Planes now!"
Strange creatures broke out of the ground! They were different versions of Liliana! We tried to fight them back, but soon each of us was trapped. A normal form of Litiona walked up to us and said "Now you see the foolishness of this quest. Die now."
Help us, please, I thought.
Then, in the hour of distress, a great light pierced through the darkness. The bonds broke, and I felt my strength return. I quickly cut the vampire Liliana at my side, and split the other with my sword. My companions broke free as well. We quickly cut down our attackers. Liliana stood above us with a scowl. I felt strong, better than strong. I felt a power course through my bones, flowing through my veins.
I pointed my sword at her and said "You go no further!"
"What will you do?"
"This!"
I channeled all my newly empowered mana into a single sphere and released it at her! The golden beam hit her in the chest, as did white beam, and a blue one, and then a green one! My companions were fighting too! All eight of us poured our all. Liliona was yelling back, trying to fight back. We poured all our energy into the wave, until finally, with a great yell, Lillana exploded with a wave that knocked us back. When I got up, the rocks were not floating, and the storm was gone.
"We did it." remarked Avacyn.
"Yes," said Ajani, "But some powerful being helped us stop her."
"Who?" asked Jace.
I smiled, "I think I know who did…"
Events afterward
After telling my companions about God, we decided to form the Order of the Planes. We were the founding eight, and began to do good works all about the Multiverse
On Innistrad
Most of the monsters were destroyed by Liliana. With Aracyn and her Cathar any, we destroyed the monsters by casting the Monsru Spell, which destroys all dark creatures. Avacyn remade the Cathar into the Holy Cathar Church after learning about the Lord. The Eight rebuilt their society and founded the Innistrad Planes Acadamus.
On Theros
The "gods" of Theros were stripped of their divine powers, but still had great abilities. We made them realize that they were to be guardians of the world. We brought peace between the city-states, with an elected leader under each one that formed the Grand Theros Council. This council elected the leader, who was Ajani. The Theras Planes Acadamus was build.
On Ravnica
We were able to have the Guilds make peace. Each one contributed to make a better world. The Ravnica Plones Acadamus was built.
On Shandalar
We had some of the members of our order begin to craft helpful objects out of the raw mana of the plane. This brought the peoples of Shandalar together. The Shandalar Planes Acadamus was founded.
On Alara
I didn't do much here, but Nissa united the people. The Alara Planes Acadamus was built.
On Zendikar
The Eldrazi were gone, along with the Roil. Kiora paved a way of peace and prosperity. She used the hedrons' knowledge to create vast libraries. The Zendikar Planes Acadamus was founded on.
Once all the planes were at peace, we built a special structure. Each place had a representative that formed the Council of the Planes. Peace and prosperity reigned. Avacyn lead Innitrad, Ajani governed Theros, Jace governed Ravnica, Garruk lead Shandalar, Chandra governed lead Alara, Nissa governed Zendikar, and Kiora began to teach and educate.
Once this Multiverse was perfect I left. But before I did, the Eight built our headquarters, the Order of the Planes Citadel.
