ONE-SHOT

...

The sound of pots and pans coming from the kitchen down below was more than enough to help rouse the patriarch of the Uzumaki clan from his slumber. The sun's golden rays resting on his content and smiling face was another contributing factor that aided in his sudden awakening.

Naruto Uzumaki groaned as he sat up in his bed and stretched his still sleeping muscles. Her rubbed the crust from his eyes and turned his head to see the spot beside him was empty. He was confused for a moment before the sound of running water coming from the kitchen caught his attention.

With a small smile on his face, he climbed out of bed and slid his feet into his slippers. He knew his fiancée would want him to make up the bed before coming downstairs and playfully rolled his eyes as he did precisely that. "That looks good enough."

It was passable. The covers and sheets were pulled up and the pillows were in place. All in all, Naruto would say it was a job well done. Now to head on over to the bathroom to handle business. He whistled to himself as he left the master bedroom and trekked over to the upstairs bathroom.

The house was a lot different from the apartment he'd spent most of his life in. There were two floors for one and it felt a lot more homie with someone else to share it with. Add to that the decorations on the walls and portraits as well. It really did feel like a home.

Naruto entered the bathroom and flipped on the lights before shutting the door behind him. He looked himself over in the mirror like he'd done countless times and took notice of how much he'd changed from his rowdy youth to a fully-fledged adult.

First thing to note was his hair which was no longer wild and spikey since he'd made the decision to cut it down. He still had his whisker-like birthmarks which his fiancée liked to trace her fingers down. His eyes looked sharper and more experienced, and he'd gotten taller. He used to be the shortest of his class and now he was the tallest.

He reached down for his toothbrush that sat in a cup by the sink and began to take care of his teeth. Toothpaste, toothbrush, yep. Naruto took care of what he needed to and finally headed off downstairs to meet his fiancée. As he did the sounds from the kitchen grew louder and the appetizing smell of breakfast filled his nostrils.

Wanting to surprise his fiancée, Naruto used his advanced shinobi training to sneak around the corner. The poked his head into the kitchen and saw the table filled with food. Pancakes, strawberry sauce, rolled omelets, miso breakfast oats, Ogura toast, it all looked so good.

He then turned his attention to the back of the woman who looked to be washing the dishes. She had long raven hair and wore a short length vermillion robe, with matching slippers. Sarada Uchiha... the love of his life. The girl who fell through time.

Even though she gave no inclination of knowing he was there, Sarada knew Naruto was watching her from behind the corner. She didn't need Sharingan or Byakugan when she could just feel his presence near her. It was a true testament to the bond she had formed with him that only grew stronger over time.

It was like a sixth sense in a way. She could just tell whenever he was watching her, like right now. While washing a spatula she purposefully dropped in a way that caused it to bounce and roll into the corner. With a smug smirk tugging at her lips, she ventured over to it and bent over to pick it up, giving her fiancé a clear view of her panty covered rear.

If she had to guess, Naruto was probably turning beat red right now. Once the show was over and she picked up the spatula she felt a pair of strong arms wrapping themselves around her waist, followed by a chin wresting on her shoulder.

"Well, someone's awake." She teased as she felt Naruto plant a kiss on her cheek.

"What can I say, I couldn't stay sleep without you next to me." He said playfully.

"Oh? So you missed me then?" Sarada continued to tease her fiancé.

"Anytime you're away." Naruto admitted without missing a beat.

The time traveler already knew that, but it was still sweet to hear. The whisker-faced man eventually let her go so she could turn to face him fully and he couldn't help but get caught up by her natural beauty. Her glasses didn't obscure it either and added a little extra something to her overall appeal.

She gripped him by the shoulders and gave him a light peck on the lips. "Good morning."

"Good morning." Naruto said in a daze before Sarada back away to drop the spatula in the sink. He quickly regained his bearings and set his sights on the kitchen table. He was a decent cook, but he couldn't make food look as good as Sarada did unless it was Ramen.

Speaking of his favorite breakfast, lunch, and dinner... he had to cut back on it. For as good as it was, it wasn't healthy to have for every meal. It was actually one of the contributing factors to why he was so short in those early days. He was ingesting nothing but empty calories and salt.

He put that thought out of his mind and instead pulled out the chair for his fiancée to sit down. She thanked him of course, and then took his own seat at the table.

Naruto was the first to dig in after pouring some strawberry sauce on his pancakes. "So good."

He always enjoyed her cooking which made her smile. She mentally thanked her mama for teaching her the basics and then encouraging her to experiment on her own. She was also thankful that going back in time helped her help the past version of her mom learn to cook earlier. Those rice balls she made turned Lee green.

Then there were those cookies she begged her to try. She didn't want to but did so anyway to help a friend. It was the most horrible food experience of her life. It felt as if someone shoveled the desert sands of the Hidden Sand Village in her mouth. Sakura did improve however... eventually.

Her dad was an odd one. She hadn't had the opportunity to spend much time with him since he was already out of the village and away. The knew why since her future father explained it to her but it was still hard to watch and inevitably experience. Fortunately, Naruto was able to knock some sense into him near the end.

Then there was Naruto himself, the one she was currently engaged to. Her mother told her what she had was a crush on the Seventh Hokage but she knew deep down that what she felt wasn't a simple schoolgirl crush. She was in love with him, yet the age difference and his marriage to Hinata would forever keep them worlds apart.

Then once she graduated from the academy and did a few missions with her sensei and teammates, the time travel incident happened. Her memory of the event was a bit fuzzy, but what she did remember a storm and what looked a tornado of golden chakra. The next thing she knew she was waking up in a cot being looked over by a younger version of Lord Seventh and his master Jiraiya of the Sannin.

That's where it all began in this era for her. She smiled to herself and dug into the rolled omelets. That was enough thinking about the past. She was here now living in her new present and she was going to savor every last moment of it.

"So, we both have the day off today." Naruto began. "Got anything planned?"

Sarada pondered in mock thought. "Nope. I figured we'd just wing it."

"I don't mind that." He giggled. He was a master of improve.

"I had a feeling you wouldn't." She smirked mischievously.

Time is not a straight line. The timeline is malleable. The relationship between Naruto Uzumaki and Sarada Uchiha was proof of that. They were two different people from two different eras in time that should've never been but are. Whether it was fate or some other powerful force in the universe they met at the exact point in time where they could be.

As the two of them made-out on the living room couch Sarada couldn't help but think about the past again, how she was so unsure about what to do with her feelings.

She loved Naruto, but he already had a family in her timeline. He was married to Lady Hinata, he had a son and a daughter. She couldn't and shouldn't try to take someone else's place, and what about her future. Had her mere presence done any irreparable damage?

She didn't know and that had her spiraling. She didn't even know if she could get back home, not that she would even want to now even if she could. Back then it was literally just her, Naruto and Jiraiya as he was going on journey to become stronger.

They'd been traveling together for two and a half years; it was nigh impossible for her to keep her feelings in check. Naruto had even begun to grow some feelings for her too. She was so lost as to what to do until the Sannin gave her the best advice he could.

"A leap of faith kid, that's all it is." He'd spoke. He knew about her future status as she told him about a month into their travels and even presented him with her shinobi ID for further proof.

She wanted to tell Naruto how she really felt and the truth about her. If he accepted after the truth came to light then she'd be the happiest girl in the world and if not then she would respect his decision.

The night came where she told him the truth about herself and where she came from. Needless to say he was shocked and awed all at once. Then she explained to him how she felt. There was a long silence as he soaked it all in and at first she thought she would be rebuffed until he took his own leap of faith in the moment and kissed her.

Needless to say, she was stunned at first, but soon melted into it. It was her very first kiss and she'd long since fantasized about it. Never in her wildest dreams did she ever think it would become real.

That was the night a brand-new future was born, and also the night Jiraiya had the greatest inspiration for his next Icha-Icha masterpiece that later went on to become a best seller.

Sarada was brought back to the present when she felt her love's hand gently squeeze her butt. She could feel her blush creeping in but smiled all the same. She removed her glasses and tossed them to the couch over as her Sharingan swirled to life. This was going to be a fun day off.

She leaned down and kissed her fiancé again.

Night eventually fell as it always did, causing the hustle and bustle of the village outside to die down. The young couple's day off was spent enjoying each other's company until the sun fell. Now it was time to rest and prepare for the challenges ahead tomorrow.

Naruto had a mission that would take him outside the village for a little while and Sarada had a squad to train before accepting whatever mission Lord Sixth had in store for them. Hopefully it wasn't another D-Rank mission. She hated D-Rank missions and so did her team.

As the two lied together in bed cuddled up close, Naruto let out a content hum in his sleep.

Sarada who was still somewhat awake turned towards him to see his smiling face. She reached her hand out and traced her finger down his whiskers. The grooves were just so smooth. With a smile on her face, she gave him a small kiss on the forehead.

"I love you." She whispered before finally shutting her eyes. When next she awoke it would be back to work, but she was content with how she spent her day off.

The two had a brand-new future ahead of them and who knows how it will unfold.

FIN!
