Steve hurried through the convention center as he looked high and low for Olivier. But hadn't been able to find a single sign of the child.
"Have you seen a boy with Blue and Amber eyes?" Steve asked a random person.
"Can't say I have."
Steve turned to another person. "Have seen a boy anywhere? He's this small, has auburn hair, does that sound familiar?"
"Nope, sorry dude."
Steve looked at another person.
"No, I haven't seen anyone like that."
Steve began to sweat bullets absolutely regretting this stupid idea of his to bring Olivier along to this Covention.
He walked around the room at a brisk pace, asking anyone if they had seen any sign of Olivier.
But most of them gave him the same answer.
Then the worst thing that could've happened to Steve happened.
He ran face first into into Lilith. Falling to the floor butt first as a result.
A nervous smile crawled up his face as he looked up at the not impressed witch.
"Heeeeeeyyyyyy Liliiiiiiiith…"
"Hello Steve," Lilith said cooly as she crossed her arms.
"How are ya doing?" Steve smiled a smile so wide he was surprised his face wasn't about to fall off.
"I'm doing just fine," Lilith answered curtly. "Are you enjoying the Covention?"
"Yeah! Certainly Ma'am!" Steve replied. "Best Covention ever!"
Lilith smiled the coldest smile that Steve had ever experienced at him. The only thing he could do in response was gulp.
"Aren't you supposed to be watching over Olivier, at the castle?"
"You see…" Steve began. "I was watching Olivier, just like you ordered me, just not at the castle."
"YOU TOOK HIM OUTSIDE!?" Lilith's hands briefly burst into blue flames as she was absolutely prepared to strangle Steve.
"Listen, I-I thought it'd be good for him, y'know," Steve defended himself as he crawled away from Lilith. "The plan was to go for an hour and then go back to the castle like nothing happened."
"And where is my son now?" Lilith asked as her cool returned to her.
Steve could only smile nervously in response.
"YOU LOST HIM!?" Lilith screeched as she grabbed Steve by the neck and began to choke him out, ignoring all the confused bystanders. "THE EMPEROR WILL HAVE US PETRIFIED INTO OBLIVION IF HE WE DON'T FIND OLIVIER!"
"Miss Clawthorn, Miss Clawthorn!" A pair of voices suddenly called out.
"Miss Clawthorn is a bit busy at the moment," Lilith hissed as she continued with choking out Steve.
"Are you Ollie's mom?" One of the girls asked. "Because we know where he went."
Lilith let go of Steve and looked up at the mention of her son and saw Amity and Willow standing beside her.
"You do?"
"Yes." Willow nodded her head. " "His little wooden bird went haywire when Ollie did magic and it flew out of the Convention center.
"My little boy did magic?" Lilith said with a squeak as her eyes briefly teared up before looking at Steve again. "I MISSED MY BOY'S FIRST SPELL THANKS TO YOU!"
"Sorryyyyyyy…" Steve muttered between deep laboured breaths.
"Do you want us to come with you," Amity asked, hoping she'd be able to go on an adventure with the leader of the Emperor's coven.
"No need." Lilith stood up and dragged Steve back to his feet as well and headed towards the exit of the Convention center. "You two continue enjoying the Covention, I'll make sure you two are properly rewarded for your assistance."
Lilith flew on her staff over the streets of Bonesborough with Steve barely hanging on to her as she scanned the streets of the city.
She prayed to the Titan that her boy hadn't been taken away by some monster or by a witch with bad intentions.
It was then that she saw Olivier and what was happening was far worse than him being taken away by a monster.
He was with Edalyn!
With no hesitation she made a B-line for her son and her little sister. Not caring for Steve nearly falling off her staff again.
Olivier and Eda were having a nice talk when the two of them noticed Lilith.
"YOU!" Lilith screamed pointing at Eda.
"Momma!" Olivier exclaimed happily before deflating again. "I'm in trouble, aren't I?"
"Not now Ollie," Lilith gently pushed Olivier to the side as she approached her little sister. "What are you doing with my son?"
"Aunty Eda saved my life!" Olivier said happily.
"What the kid said," Eda spoke. "The boy got lost searching for his bird and I helped him out, that's all."
"Well I don't want you near him." Lilith crossed her arms. "You'll just be a bad influence."
"But Aunty Eda is nice."
"Yes, because cooping the kid up in that castle is doing great things for him," Eda rolled her eyes. "The kid has so much potential and he is being stifled, Lilith."
"What you call being stifled, is what I call being kept safe and being given proper help despite his hardships," Lilith countered. "The Emperor's Coven can help you too, sister. Emperor Belos can cure you."
Eda scoffed. "Even if he could, I'd rather live the rest of my life free in solitude than be indebted to that maniac."
"Our Emperor is not a maniac!" Lilith snapped.
"Yes he is!" Eda snapped back. "But everyone here seems too gullible to notice."
Lilith growled in her throat at that comment.
"Uhm Lil'," Steve grasped Lilith shoulder. "I think we should go back home."
Lilith glared at Eda, before sighing deeply.
"You're right…" Lilith grabbed Olivier's hand. "We've caused enough of a scene as is already. Let's go Olivier."
"Will I get to see Aunty Eda again?" Olivier asked innocently.
Lilith stayed silent as she continued walking not wanting to entertain the thought of Olivier spending more time with her criminal sister.
"Yeah, Lilith, Will I see my nephew again?" Eda called after Lilith. "Or will I have to wait another seven years to do so?"
Lilith continued to stay quiet, grasping at her staff so hard her knuckles turned white, feeling a bit bad that her relationship with her sister had devolved to such a state that she hadn't even introduced her son to her in the seven years that she had him.
"Maybe I should make an appointment with Daddy Belos?" Eda sneered. "You wouldn't want to disappoint your daddy Belos, would you Lilith?"
"WHY CAN'T YOU BE SILENT!?" Lilith screeched before launching a blast of blue energy at her little sister.
"There we go," Eda grinned before summoning her own staff and spinning it around to deflect Lilith's energy blast causing it to hit a building nearby.
"Momma?" Olivier asked before being pulled away by Steve.
"I think we should take some distance."
"WITCH'S DUEL!" A bystander before a large crowd began to surround the pair of witches.
"Duel, duel, duel!" The crowd began to chant.
Olivier unsurely looked around him as people gathered.
Lilith led by her rage wildly swung her staff around, materializing walls of blue fire.
Eda on the other hand was treating this duel more like a game than anything, playfully dodging Lilith attacks which only caused the older witch to grow even more enraged.
It was then that one Lilith's attacks finally landed a hit on Eda. Pushing backwards causing her to skid on the ground for a few meters.
"Aunty Eda!" Olivier said worriedly only to be relieved when the orange haired witch stood back up.
"You really want to do this?" Eda spat as she wiped some blood from her lips.
Eda then created multiple spell circles around Lilith that blasted an intense about of magic at her from multiple directions.
Creating over abundance of smoke.
"Momma!" Olivier yelled.
When the smoke cleared it revealed Lilith had surrounded herself in a blue energy shield.
Olivier's relief turned once more to worry as the fight only intensified with no sign whatsoever.
He knew his mom was a powerful witch or else she wouldn't have been in the Emperor's Coven.
But he had never seen her fight. At most he had attended one of her training sessions.
But this was different.
His mom could get hurt or worse.
This fight wasn't like the fights that Olivier had read about in books. This wasn't a fight between a clear hero and a clear villain.
This was a fight between two people that seemed to be very nice to Olivier.
Sisters.
Sisters shouldn't be fighting like this, should they?
Between the mindless cheering of the crowd and the fact two people, family, were fighting when this shouldn't be the case.
Olivier felt something building up inside of him.
Something he hadn't felt before.
"I've had enough!" Lilith yelled as she began to charge her staff. "Time to end this nonsense. If you won't come with me civilly, I'll just have to take you dragging and screaming."
"Not over my dead," Eda growled as she too began charging her staff.
"Nononononono!" Olivier panicked as a blue and yellow glow began to come from him.
"Olivier?" Steve asked.
Before Steve could do anything else Olivier had broken through the crowd
Right at that moment Lilith and Eda both shot their energy blasts, prepared to have a beam struggle against each other.
Only to panic when Olivier jumped between the two blasts.
"OLIVIER!" Both Lilith and Eda screamed.
Lilith placed a hand to her mouth as her eyes filled up with tears at what she had caused.
Eda could only look ahead with a thousand yard stare.
When suddenly both Lilith's and Eda's blasts started going around in circles forming into a tornado of orange and blue before being blasted into the air exploding thousands of small particles that rained down upon everyone in the area.
Both sisters stared with wide eyes at Olivier who was levitating in the air, his eyes glowing brightly.
Until this sudden burst of energy fizzled out. Dropping the boy to the ground, barely able stand.
"Olivier!" Lilith yelled as she ran over to Olivier to give him support. "Baby are you okay!"
"I'm fine," Olivier said weakly. "just a bit woozy."
Lilith then looked up at Eda with a glare.
"This is why Olivier is better off with the Emperor's Coven," Lilith said. "They can provide him with proper training, unlike you."
Eda looked at her sister with a look exasperation.
"You'll understand some day," Eda sighed before slamming her staff down creating a blinding flash and when vision returned to everyone Eda had disappeared.
Lilith sighed, but she had better things to focus on right now.
"Let's go back home."
Olivier sat on the sofa in Emperor Belos' private study, his hands properly folded together on his lap as he his gaze was locked towards the floor.
The man in question hadn't arrived yet. Which gave Olivier a moment to let everything that happened today sink in.
He got a nice bird figure.
He made two friends.
Found a way to do magic despite being human through wands
He met his aunt for the first time, she seemed nice
and he got to discover that he might have some kind magic after all.
All in all, Olivier still wasn't quite sure why everybody kept calling the outside bad. Outside of that one monster it seemed to be quite nice.
Olivier was pulled from his thoughts when the door of the study opened and the intimidating figure of Emperor Belos stood in the doorway.
"Good Evening uncle," Olivier said quietly. Not daring to make eye contact with the man.
"I heard from Lilith you had quite the adventure today," Belos spoke as he closed the door behind him.
"Are you mad?" Olivier asked.
Belos chuckled before petting Olivier's head. "Absolutely seething." Olivier wasn't sure whether Belos was being serious or not. If the man were a stop sign he'd always be on orange.
So he stayed silent instead.
"You deliberately disobeyed my orders," Belos continued. "You know why you shouldn't leave the castle."
"I know," Olivier sighed. "The Boiling Isles are way too dangerous for a magicless being like myself, I'm just a useless human. I know…"
"Ah," Belos exhaled before taking off his mask. "You and I might not have magic like the witches do, but we have something far better than that."
"What?" Olivier asked, puzzled.
"A soul." Belos knelt down to Olivier's level. Giving the boy that kind look a grandfather could only give.
"A soul? What's that?" Olivier asked once more.
"A soul is what will allow you and I to move on to the eternal paradise once our bodies wither," Belos smiled.
Olivier looked at Belos as he took in this information.
"Does that mean I'll never see my momma again after she dies?" Olivier looked at Belos with a worried expression.
"Indeed," Belos replied. "Which is why I suggest not getting too attached to this place and it's people, since they all will be nothing more than dust and bones in the future. Keep that soul of yours safe, child."
Olivier furrowed his brow.
"Now hurry along," Belos motioned towards the door as he opened it. "I let you off easy this time."
"Thank you uncle," Olivier spoke before getting out of the study as quickly as he could.
Much to Belos' amusement.
Night had come around and Olivier was laying in bed thinking about what Belos told him.
It was that a knock sounded.
"Ollie?" Lilith's voice sounded from behind the door. "Are you awake?"
"Yes mom," Olivier replied to which in response Lilith opened the door.
Lilith smiled at her son as she walked towards his bed and sat on the edge of it.
"How are you doing?"
"I'm feeling a lot better," Olivier smiled at his mom.
"Great," Lilith replied.
Then there was an uncomfortable silence.
"I'm sorry about not listening to you," Olivier apologized. "I shouldn't have left the castle."
"No." Lilith said sternly. "Steve was right that you need more than what's within these walls. That's why I got something for you."
She then revealed a scroll to Olivier.
"You're letting me have a scroll?" Olivier asked excitedly as he grabbed it from Lilith's hands.
"Yes," Lilith smiled. "But you can't tell anyone, okay?"
"Deal!" Olivier nodded, a big smile plastered on his face.
"Those two girls you were with, they were so kind to give me their penstagram names." Lilith said as she handed a paper to Olivier. "So you can stay in contact with them if you want to."
"Thanks momma!" Olivier pulled his mom into a hug. "I love you!"
"and I love you too," Lilith hugged Olivier back. "From here to the stars and back."
This is the final chapter of this particular story arc!
The next chapter will probably involve another time skip.
This chapter mainly involves Lilith's and Eda's confrontation when the former sees the latter with Olivier.
and this particular confrontation is a paralel to the one in the Prime story.
Writing fight scenes is pretty tough, so I decided to keep this one to a minimum.
Perhaps in the future I'll write more detailed fight scenes.
and at last we have Olivier's first big magic outburst.
This universe's Olivier handles it better than his prime counterpart.
We have the first appearance of Belos. Belos' and Olivier's relationship is one that is going to be important in this story.
The most important fact is that Olivier knows Belos is human. Belos made sure this was the case because he wants Olivier to feel like he and Belos are on the same team. Basically he wants Olivier to think that it's Belos and Oliver vs Witchkind. (Which is the purpose of the "soul conversation" which serves partly as manipulation from Belos' side to dehumanise the witches in Ollie's mind. Thought I also believe that Belos does believe that witches don't have souls.)
and finally we end on a heartwarming scene with Lilith and Olivier where she accepts that Olivier needs contact with the outside world.
So she gives him a scroll. (I initally intended to end the story with Oliver finding Eda's penstagram account and get in contact with her, but I like the heart warming ending more.)
