I awoke to find myself in a void, surrounded by galaxies and intricate boxes covered in mysterious runes. I couldn't understand the writing, as if it were from a language I had never seen before. Suddenly, a wall of text appeared before me:

Congratulations! You have been selected as the first-ever gamer of the Multiverse. Do you accept? Y/N?

Confusion overwhelmed me. I had just dozed off while watching an anime and smoking, and now I found myself in this situation. Whatever, I thought, Owen must have laced this shit because I'm tripping balls.

As I tried to make sense of everything, a wave of pain surged through my body. It was unlike anything I had ever experienced, as if I were being burned alive on a magnitude beyond comprehension. Amidst the agony, the text reappeared, accompanied by a voice resembling Tony Stark's AI, Jarvis, resonating in my head.

"Sorry about that. I was piecing together what was left of your soul. It was a mess—like the first case of soul cancer I've ever seen."

As the pain subsided, I mustered a hoarse voice, "S-soul cancer? What the fuck is that? This isn't a dream. You don't feel pain in dreams. What the fuck is happening to me?"

"I apologize for the interruption," the voice interjected. "But I find it hard to communicate in the state you're in. Allow me to lend a hand."

Download complete! Welcome, user, to the Gamer System, a system made by the overseer or whoever you referred to as God. This system was built and provided for ?. To have a second chance and become the new ?. This system will allow you to traverse the multiverse, gathering power and living life like a video game. You will not be all-powerful at the start, but the system can give you the potential to be that powerful, but only through hard work or gacha!

Oddly enough, processing this suddenly became a lot easier. I still had questions, but I could think rationally and go about this calmly. "Okay, where am I, overseer?"

Now, allow me to explain your situation. Your soul was afflicted with a rare condition known as soul cancer. It slowly deteriorates and rots the soul until it becomes a lifeless husk, leaking energy and causing a catastrophic explosion."

The voice continued, "To prevent the destruction of countless universes, I caught it in time and fixed you. I also created this system as a gift. It grants you the opportunity to traverse the multiverse, gain power, and live life as if it were a video game. At the moment, you're not ready to know the truth about your past, so your memories have been sealed for your safety. As for your current location, you are residing in a dimension formed from my power."

With lingering confusion, I replied, "Could you please explain the nature of soul cancer? How uncommon is it? Will I eventually return to my world? Furthermore, why do my memories solely consist of content from the books, movies, and video games I have encountered?"

The voice replied, "Soul cancer is exceedingly rare. I've never encountered it before, and you won the unfortunate lottery. As for your memories, you will need knowledge of the multiverse, as it exists within multiple dimensions and planes of existence. Though I am the most powerful being, there are others who could easily erase you from existence. However, they won't be able to detect the system unless you reveal it."

As questions swirled in my mind like a whirlwind, it suddenly dawned on me that I was actually in another dimension! Reluctantly, I decided to accept the situation, but hey, at least I can finally say I've taken thinking outside the box to a whole new level!

"Okay," I said, still bewildered. "I'm down for whatever this is. Let's do this. I accept."

"Great! I'm glad you've accepted my proposal," the voice responded. "The system will take over from here. Goodbye, and good luck!"

Following the voice's departure, the system's interface appeared before me. It urged me to customize my appearance, offering various options and accessories. With a deadpan expression, I skimmed through the choices, settling on a lean build, around 6'2" in height, with Minato Namikaze's red hair and silver eyes. I confirmed my selections, and my body underwent a strange transformation, as if being covered in dry paint that washed away.

A mirror materialized before me, allowing me to inspect my new appearance. Satisfied, I nodded at my reflection.

The world you are going to is already pre-selected, so choose your class

[Fighter] [Ranger] [Mage] [Healer] [Thief]

Contemplating my options, I pondered aloud, "System, will my choice of class be permanent, or can I switch to different classes later?"

You won't be locked into a single class. If you choose Mage, for example, you can still unlock and use other classes. However, you'll need to max out your current class before moving on to another. You can even combine and utilize multiple classes simultaneously. And remember, you can communicate with me mentally. Just think of your commands, and I'll respond.

Wishing I had known this earlier, I decided to start as a Fighter. I had always enjoyed getting my hands dirty, even though magic intrigued me. I believed I could learn magic later; for now, I wanted to focus on honing my combat skills.

Choose your specialization

[Martial artist] [Berserker] [Warrior] [Samurai] [Paladin]

I selected the Martial Artist specialization, knowing that I had room for improvement in unarmed combat.

As I made my choice, a flood of knowledge filled my mind, granting me new skills.

Skills gained due to selected class!

Martial Arts Proficiency (Novice) (Passive):

Embracing the path of unarmed combat as a novice, Martial Arts Proficiency unveils your fighting spirit. With determination in your heart, you step into the arena, ready to engage in the art of hand-to-hand combat. As a beginner, you navigate the intricacies of strikes, blocks, and evasive maneuvers, honing your skills with each encounter. While still at the early stages of your journey, your passion and dedication fuel your progress, instilling a growing sense of confidence in your abilities. The path of mastery awaits, and you stand resolute, eager to continue your ascent in the realm of martial arts.

Touki Proficiency (Novice) (Passive):

Awakening the dormant potential within, Touki (DxD) Proficiency (Novice) grants you foundational knowledge in harnessing the power of Touki. This mystical energy, often referred to as "ki," materializes as a vibrant aura enveloping your being, a manifestation of your life force itself. As you tap into the depths of Touki, a surge of strength, agility, and endurance courses through your veins. Your physical attributes are augmented 2x, granting you enhanced prowess in strength, dexterity, and resilience. This newfound power fuels your actions, allowing you to push beyond your previous limitations and embark on a path of martial ascendance. Though at the novice stage, your connection with Touki lays the groundwork for profound growth and mastery, unveiling the untapped potential within your very essence.

Wait a minute. DxD, as in Highschool DxD? A world inhabited by beings that could obliterate me with a mere glance? The risks were undeniably high, but the rewards were equally enticing. With this system, I could potentially become immensely powerful.

Now, it was time to choose my race.

Select your race

[Human] [Random]

With slim pickings on the options menu, being human doesn't really excite me, especially if I can't score a sacred gear. So, I guess I'll just go for a random choice and hopefully be born as a kick-ass Dragon God!

Or you can be born a cockroach :)

"Which side are you on, System?" I asked.

Unfortunately, yours, the System replied

"Alright, then," I said, rolling my eyes.

With one final decision to make, I contemplated my name. "Yami," I declared. "My name is Yami."

"Congratulations, Yami!" the System announced. "As a gamer, you will now be sent to your new world. You will be able to see your stats there. Good luck, and see you on the other side!"

Before I could utter a word in response, a blinding light enveloped me, and in an instant, I was gone.

A/N: hey guys this is a edited version of chapter 1 hope you enjoy!
