Chapter 1
It was a stormy day on planet Mobius. The rain was pouring. The power was out. And Team Rose was trapped, at Rouge and Shadow's mansion, with Team Sonic. But Cream was still having a pretty good time, with Tails, in front of his HP Laptop.
"What would you like to add to your bucket list?" Tails asked Cream with a smile.
Cream had plenty of ideas immediately. "The first item I'm going for is to have a tea party with a former president from the human world."
Tails started typing it up immediately.
Cream carried on. "My second item is to become a flight attendant. My third item is to go on a Disney Cruise. My fourth item is to bathe in hot chocolate. My fifth item is to win an Equestrian Gold Medal."
The ideas continued. And when the lights came back on, Tails had typed up 73 of them. So he called the long list into question. "Cream, how in tar nation will you live long enough to accomplish most of these things?"
"Mr. Shadow is immortal," smiled Cream "He'll know how to do it." So she went right upstairs and found him asleep on the recliner. "Um, Mr. Shadow?"
Shadow's eyes shot open, and he flinched. "Goodness, Cream! You scared the quills off of me!"
Cream carried on. "Mr. Shadow, how did you make yourself immortal?"
Shadow had a grim look in his eyes. "You don't know anything, do you? It's no fun being immortal."
"What about your bucket list?" asked Cream.
"I guess you haven't heard," Shadow answered with a look of dread. "It's no fun knowing that I can never reunite with Maria. No matter my bucket list, no matter my income, long term fun is at a premium."
Cream was still in good spirits. "It sounds, to me, like you haven't had a good time in too long. Maybe Don Karnage can help. I heard you've driven his McLaren."
Shadow seemed to feel a little better. "Indeed, I have, and his aerobatic flying has been exceptional. But seeing many friends come and go has still been tough for me."
"Let's try anyway," urged Cream. "I'll ring him right up and let him know." And she wasted no time, dialing his number.
The other end of the phone was picked up promptly. "Karnage residence. Don speaking."
Cream spoke up immediately. "Mr. Shadow hasn't had a good time in a while and could really use one."
"I remember him," smiled Karnage. "Maybe he should try wing walking with me, because I have five certified aerobatic planes at my disposal. In fact, how would you like to come along with him?"
"Honest?" asked Cream.
"Sure," continued Don Karnage.
"You mean it?" asked Cream with encouragement.
"You bet I mean it," smiled Karnage. "Meet me at Camp Jordan Park, in East Ridge, Tennessee, in three hours. Got it?"
"Got it," smiled Cream. "Shadow and I will see you precisely there." And with that, she hung up the phone and addressed Shadow again. "Shadow, Don Karnage wants to meet un in the human world in three hours. We'll need one of your rings for it."
Shadow quickly cheered up, "Let's do this." So two hours and 40 minutes later, he opened the portal and right through, went him and Cream.
Chapter 2
Shadow and Cream landed right in East Ridge, and sure enough, they ran right into Kit Cloudkicker, who was surprisingly wearing leather pants and had exceptional news for them. "You must be friends with Don Karnage. You'll be glad to hear he, Mad Dog, Dumptruck, Hacksaw, and Jock are now, rehearsing our routine."
"I don't see or hear them anywhere up there," commented Cream.
"I guess you haven't heard," replied Kit. "We have a special simulator for our rehearsals."
"It sounds like you guys really have sense," smiled Shadow.
"It's also a bargain with our insurance provider," smiled Kit. "and we're almost ready to hit the sky for real."
Two minutes later, Don Karnage emerged with a smile. "I know who you guys are. Shadow and Cream. You're here for the show, aren't you?"
Cream spoke up. "Actually Mr. Karnage, I'm here to cheer up Mr. Shadow. Do you have any wing walking room for him."
"As it happens," answered Karnage. "I do have a position today, but there is a dress code for it. He has to wear some pants while performing." So he pulled some leather pants, in Kit's size, out of his pocket and handed them right to Shadow.
Shadow put them on and was confident enough. "Let's get this show in the sky."
Karnage wasted no time, carrying out the orders. "Shadow, you'll be doing the wing walking on my plane. Kit, you'll be on board Dumptruck's wings. Hal, get on board Jock's wings. And Cream, do you wish to join us in the performance?"
"I'll give it a nice shot," smiled Cream.
"Well then," smiled Don Karnage. "Get on board my wings with Shadow." And he pointed there with two fingers.
Shadow and Cream got right on board Don Karnage's wings, leaning backward against the vertical pole. Karnage strapped himself into the cockpit. With the rest of the pilots and wing walkers in place, all dash cams rolling, and all smoke units on, all five planes took right to the sky. The team of pilots started out with wing in wing corkscrews, and Shadow felt more alive than ever. From there, the five planes got in formation, did an inside loop, and right at the end, did an outside loop.
"This is precisely the thrill to live for!" Shadow exclaimed to Cream and took it further. "Cream, check this out!" And he used his homing attacks to leap from Karnage's plane, to Mad Dog's plane, to Dumptruck's plane.
Kit was alarmed. "How in the world did you do that, Shadow?"
"They're called homing attacks," Shadow explained. "They're my special ability. Watch this." And Shadow did homing attacks from Dumptruck's plane, to Jock's plane, back to Karnage's plane.
Cream decided to encourage Shadow further. "Is this amazing, Shadow, or what?"
Shadow smiled at her. "This is tremendous." And it got better. Mad Dog, Dumptruck, and Jock lined up side by side and did recurring loops in a row while Don Karnage did a barrel roll just before flying right through the loops of smoke. And Karnage was not done yet. He, Hacksaw, Jock, and Dumptruck lined up side by side and did outside loops of smoke while Mad Dog flew right through them.
A couple stunts later, it was time to land. And Shadow wasted no time, carrying out his gratitude. "Don Karnage, you are an exceptional aerobatic pilot. Mad Dog, so are you. The five of you are. Kit, you're the bravest wing walker I've ever met."
Kit took the chat further. "And you are exceptional with those homing attacks."
"And on that note," smiled Shadow. "I have to be on my way for a good nap. I'll see you guys around." And he opened the portal, back to Mobius, with one of his rings.
Chapter 3
Shadow came home pretty much exhausted but still satisfied. "I have to say, Cream. Don Karnage can show just about anyone an exceptional time, and I owe it to you in addition."
Cream was now a little nervous. "Don't tell my mother I went with you, really."
Shadow was just about to get under the covers for a nap when he got a text from Karnage. "You performed like a champion today. Hang on to those pants for your next big spectacle."
Shadow texted Karnage right back. "You're an exceptional friend and performer, yourself." And with that, he went right to sleep.
When he woke up, it was already 8:00 in the morning, and he smelled something warm and sweet. "Good morning, Shadow." It was Tails, serving him a breakfast in bed of blueberry waffles with maple syrup, raspberries, and green tea.
Shadow took a taste. "You sure did this well, Tails. Who helped you with all this?"
Tails smiled. "Rouge did, actually, and when you finish this breakfast, she has more news for you."
Shadow was encouraged further. "I knew it. I knew it. I knew it. I knew I made the right choice by hooking up with her." And he continued enjoying the sweet waffles.
Moments later, Rouge, herself, came into the room. "Good morning, sweetheart. I understand you've met Elmo Sputterspark a.k.a. Megavolt."
Shadow turned somewhat tingly. "Indeed, I have. He appears to have an electrical superpower and be close friends with Don Karnage."
"They're amazing friends," said Rouge with her signature smile. "So much so, that they've been giving each other various VIP treatments. But today, Megavolt is giving one to you and me."
"That sounds like quality time!" said Shadow, excitedly and finished up his breakfast.
Tails carried on. "Shadow, I'll clear your plate. You go with Rouge."
Rouge took Shadow out to his pool and used one of her rings to open another portal. Shadow went in with her, and sure enough, Megavolt was waiting, right there, for both of them. "Your timing is wonderful. Your limousine awaits." And he opened the back door of a bright colored Lexus.
Shadow and Rouge got in. Megavolt got behind the wheel. And he accelerated smoothly at first. But without warning, he slammed on the gas and right at the first corner, pulled the hydraulic handbrake. The car slid right around the corner without hitting anything, and the centripetal force caused Shadow, on the right, to lean closer to Rouge on the left. In fact, the power sliding did not stop there. For his next move, Megavolt drifted right into the Canard Motor Sports Park and did precision power sliding, right around the first corner, without letting any of his wheels hit the run off area.
"Megavolt is quite the driver," Shadow confided to Rouge.
"And that's just what does the ultimate life form a world of good," added Rouge, so she and Shadow kissed all the way around the first hairpin turn while Megavolt handled it with unfailing finesse.
For his next move, Megavolt finished the course with the most artistic skid marks around the rest of the corners and curves and left the track without stopping. From there, he weaved through traffic, non-stop, all the way to a parking garage and power slid up ramp after ram, around all corners, without hitting a single vehicle or pedestrian.
"You and Megavolt have shown me an amazing time out here," said Shadow to Rouge. "This is even better than my homing attacks!"
"Not to mention my flying," Rouge added with a smile.
When Megavolt made it to the roof of the garage, he barely even slowed down. He continued by doing donuts, turning around, and making the downhill drift. And it was not just any downhill drift. He carried it out every bit as well as he had done the climb, and Shadow and Rouge kissed during a full ten seconds of it. But unknown to both of them, Megavolt had planned a grand finale.
Chapter 4
To finalize his entire drift run, Megavolt pulled the handbrake and power slid into a parallel parking space, where he finally came to a stop and addressed Shadow and Rouge once more. "So, what did you think about that compared to Six Flags?"
"It was better than defeating Dr. Eggman!" exclaimed Shadow.
"It was better than even the biggest diamond out there!" added Rouge.
"That's just what I like to hear," smiled Megavolt. "But this is where we must part for now, because I need a nap."
Shadow and Rouge stepped out of the car, and Rouge opened the portal home while Shadow carried out his parting words. "We will meet again soon, Megavolt. You can be sure of that."
After Shadow took a couple further hours of down time, he got some news from Amy. "Shadow! Shadow! Flick Duck wants to see you at Lake Hoohaw!"
"I remember him," said Shadow with encouragement. "I saw his team win the Hoohaw 24-Hour Race on TV."
"Think no further," smiled Amy and immediately opened the portal to the lake. In went Shadow, and right behind him, came Rouge.
Flick was right the, wearing an orange life jacket and a red pair of swimming trunks. "Rouge, Shadow, are you ready to go 200 miles an hour?"
The happy couple answered the question together. "Count us in."
"Right this way," said Flick with a grin. "This raft is where the two of you will be riding for quality time."
Shadow and Rouge strapped themselves in side by side while Flick took the wheel of the speedboat. And as he started it up, it sounded totally eager.
Rouge did still have one further inquiry for Shadow. "Is it just me, or was that the winning boat in this year's Hoohaw 24-hour race?"
"It sure was," said Shadow with a grin. And that would soon be clear. As soon as Flick cleared the no wake zone, with the raft in tow, he put the hammer right down, bringing the highest wind through Shadow's quills. It was even faster than Shadow had first run to beat Sonic. In fact, it was also all the funner. As Flick approached 200 miles an hour, as promised, Shadow and Rouge rubbed noses and rubbed each other's backs in deep affection. As the couple looked forward again, they were in for an even bigger dose of adrenaline as Flick, without slowing down a bit, came within four feet of the Snootie Residence and splashed Ootsie and Bootsie with about 24 gallons of water. As a matter of fact, the close calls continued. At just as high of a rate of speed, Flick came within five feet of PB&J Otter's inner tube and sent the three of them under the most frightening wave they had ever encountered in their lives. That was when Shadow and Rouge really laughed their heads off. For the next hefty thrill dose, Flick made a tight turn only ten feet from the shoreline, sending the raft over a jump that made the happy couple catch just about eight feet of air. Right after which, they enjoyed another tasty kiss together. 35 minutes later, Flick concluded the ride, and Shadow immediately came forward. "Flick we just can't thank you enough!"
"You and your friends have shown us the best Disney magic money can ever buy!" Rouge told Flick with a smile.
