He called her and she turned around
A/N I know there are a tonne of Slexie stories already, and I was planning to write out the plane crash but apparently that has been done, a lot. Which I guess is nice. I was watching a video this morning where Ellen Pompeo said that Slexie was her favourite couple on the show and I couldn't get that out of my head for the rest of the day so. This was so easy to write. You could say that the words came f-flying out of my mouth. After a block, it's such a relief.

"Lex?" He called her and she turned around. She looked a little pissed. But he called her anyway.
"Mark I told you, I can't do this, not now." Lexie said walking back towards him. He didn't say anything for a while and she could feel his breath on her neck. She pulled her jacket up a little tighter and let out a heavy breath. They were standing behind the exit of the hospital, she'd told Alex to go home because she had to get Mark out of her mind. She had to walk around for a while, do something to stop thinking about what he said.
He was looking at her that way he always did, a look that bore through her and reduced all her insides to mush. She had to break his stare, so she looked down at her feet and fidgeted. He wasn't holding her so there was still time to get away before she gave in. "Just think about it, we were so good together. I can't imagine dating anyone else Lexie. It's you, I just want you."
His words spun her and she started walking away from his again. "I told you I can't Mark, so please just stop." She was crying now, full wet tears were falling down her cheeks and splashing her neck. She turned the corner and stood with her back against the wall. She let her tears wash away fully before wiping her eyes. By this time Mark had gone and Alex was at home. Why was she always left in the middle? She just kept hearing his words in her head, over and over. You could have a husband.
Did she even want a husband? She was trying to be so tough and unemotional and practical. Was trying to get through residency before settling down so strange? She had a plan for all this, she just needed to turn off her feelings like a tap. Big emotional tap. But most of her wanted to just give in. To let him romance her and sweep her off her feet and marry him because she loved him and nothing else mattered. Like she was some Disney princess.
But Disney wasn't real, and she was still a resident and she had a boyfriend who probably would never ask her to marry him because he's done that before and it didn't end all that well. So she picked herself up and wiped away her tears. She took herself home and sat next to Alex on the couch, she drank beer and cheered for whatever sports team he liked and she pretended that her heart wasn't breaking.

"Lex?" He called her and she turned around. "I told Julia to go home, I told her I needed the night, Lexie I-I-"
"You?" She said, they were standing behind the exit of the hospital. She'd just blurted out that she loved him and he said nothing. Well he didn't really get the chance because stupid Julia showed up and he had to deal with that horrific situation. His eyes darted between the two of them until she couldn't take it anymore and started walking towards the parking lot. But then he was calling her name and she couldn't help but look back in the faint hope he might say something back.
He closed the gap between them and started talking, the first few words rushed by without anything particularly important but then he was saying her name again. Her back was against the wall and his eyes poured into hers until there were no words left. Her question went unanswered because he was crashing his lips into hers, his soft palm was caressing her cheek and his face was smoother than the last time they'd done this. And had he started using moisturiser? Because there was nothing rough about him except his intensity.
"Mark," she said breathily. "What does this mean?" He looked at her for a moment before kissing her again. His lips hot and bruising he pressed her to the wall. A moan passed between her lips and his, her voice quivering in gentle submission to his body. He pulled away from her and waited moments for her to open her eyes. She wanted to enjoy the peace of the unknown for just a few seconds more before she had to face the reality that he was probably kissing her for one last time before he married Julia.
"I love you Lexie." Her eyes fluttered open and stalled.
"W-What?"
"I love you Lex, I always have." Was she dreaming? Or had she left and been hit by a car? Was this her comatose brain making up things? She desperately wanted to pinch herself to check but she didn't want to move.
"But what about Julia?" She couldn't believe she was actually asking that, but it had to be done. She hadn't cheated on Alex when she wanted to, there had to be some restraint left.
"I'll call her tomorrow and break up with her. I don't love her."
Lexie let out a chuckle. Clutching her hand to her mouth she let her relief flood out in a long giggle. "Is this real?" She said probably rhetorically. She couldn't work out what else to do so she kissed him again. She let her tongue ride the wave of his and smiled against his skin as she held her head against his. "I am so in love with you."
"I know." Was all he could reply with. He wanted her to know how special she was, her standing in front of him finally spilling out everything she felt without regard for the consequences was something he knew she hadn't done lightly. She shouldn't have had to, she should've known exactly how he felt about her but he was being so chicken and trying to move on with Julia that she had to put herself on the line like that. She had to force it out of him, make him scared of losing her. And he loved her, he loved her so much but the amount of times she'd told him to back off had put a spanner in the works. He'd stopped thinking about what she wanted too and about what was best for her, what she needed. She needed him.
And maybe then things would be different. Maybe they'd sit together on the plane that crashed and maybe they'd both survive. Maybe he wouldn't die of a broken heart. Maybe they would die together, maybe he would hold her so she wasn't scared and she could live on knowing that he loved her so much that he would sacrifice himself to save her. He would've done anything for her. We don't know and that's why it hurts.
