Chapter 2: Lost in The Woods
(Smash City)
Donkey Kong, Link, Kirby, Ash, and Goh had arrived in Smash City after receiving Mario and Ty's call.
Mario- Where's the rest of the team?
Ty- Sorry, mate. But this was all I could get in contact with at the moment. But Sonic said he'd be here a little later.
Ash- This better be important, Mario. I was in the middle of doing some trainer for the Poke'mon World Coronation Tournament now that I've finally made it to the Master's Eight.
Kirby- I remember you were talking about that. Saying you wanted to battle against someone named Leon.
Goh- Yeah, and Ash finally made it to the same ranking as Leon and the other seven Poke'mon Trainers in the Master's Eight will be having their big tournament to decide who will be ranked as number one.
Link- Congratulations, Ash.
Ash- Don't congratulate me yet, because I still have to defeat Leon. And I would like to get back to training my Poke'mon as soon as possible.
Mario- Is something related to Tabuu's power good enough of a reason to interrupt your training?
Ash- Tabuu?!
Ty- Yeah, mate. Me radar picked up a trace of Tabuu's power appearing in the Mushroom Kingdom.
Ash- Ok…that is good enough of a reason to cut me from my training for the Master's Eight.
Pikachu- Pikachu…
Goh- And a good enough excuse to pull me away from the Project Mew tasks. Since I'm so close to getting enough tokens to earn my spot to catch Mew.
Donkey Kong- So, what's Tabuu up to now?
Kirby- I'm a little surprised he's back to his shenanigans so soon after our last battle.
Mario- Actually, we don't know what Tabuu is up to. You see, Ty's radar picked up a small trace of Tabuu's power appear in the Mushroom King's Forest. However, the signal vanished almost as quickly as it appeared.
Donkey Kong- What does that mean?
Ty- It means a portal from Subspace opened up in that forest and quickly closed the portal behind them.
Link- You think Tabuu sent something through that portal?
Mario- It's possible, but if so, why did he choose to send it to the Mushroom King's Forest? There's really nothing there. But that's why I've called all of you here. I need us to go into the Mushroom King's Forest and see if we can find out what came out of that portal from Subspace.
Ty- We are going to split into teams of two to cover more ground and if you do find the cause of that signal, inform the rest of us immediately and do not engage without the rest of the team present.
Then Goh began counting with his fingers until he realized he counted an odd number.
Goh- Hold on, there are seven of us. How can we split into teams of two?
Ty- Actually Goh, I need you here and operate the radar to keep track of our position and to inform us if it picks up that signal again.
Goh- Hey! Why do I have to be the one to stay behind?!
Ash- Goh, your job is pretty important too. Besides, I don't think you want to know what Tabuu's power can do.
Goh- I think I have a pretty good idea after what happened after Tabuu reclaimed his full power from Kyrin and almost destroyed our homes.
(Mushroom King's Forest)
Poke'mon Hunter J, Dimentio, and Vaati were searching wood for Olly and Olivia. Little did they know, Olly and Olivia were hiding behind a large tree close by. Olivia was having her eyes closed and shivered in fear. Olly was acting a little more calm than Olivia as he moved his head to get a small glimpse through his peripheral vision to peek from the corner of the tree.
Poke'mon Hunter J- Oh ****! Where are they?! This is getting annoying!
Dimentio- They might not be as strong as us, but they are small and fast and can easily hide in plain sight to most. Obviously, this wasn't going to be easy.
Poke'mon Hunter J- Well I say screw this game of hide-n-seek! I'll just have Salamence fly up and burn this forest to the ground and…
Then Vaati punched Poke'mon Hunter J in the back of her head.
Poke'mon Hunter J- Hey! What was that…
Vaati- Don't you dare, J! If anything happens to them and we can't perform the ritual, then Tabuu will have our heads…again…
Dimentio- Yeah…and you really don't want Tabuu to show his bad side again…
Just then, Poke'mon Hunter J seemed to recall an unpleasant memory.
(Flashback)
Tabuu had just punched Poke'mon Hunter J in a certain spot which caused her to drop to the floor. Poke'mon Hunter J was laying sideways on the floor, fighting back tears in her eyes, and holding a spot in between her legs.
Tabuu- I said you're all wearing these ridicules French maid outfits as punishment for your failure and that is final! Anyone else want to object?!
(End of the flashback and back to the Mushroom King's Forest)
Poke'mon Hunter J grinded her teeth and began growling under her breath.
Poke'mon Hunter J- I…really…hate…Tabuu…
Dimentio- Better hope the boss man didn't hear you say that. Because I'm willing to wedger he's watching us from Subspace. But you also don't need to worry about them moving to a new hiding spot when we're not looking. I've made sure that if they attempt to hide at any location we've checked already, they'll be instantly insnared in one of my dimensional traps.
Vaati- Clever. Limiting their places to hide while at the same not causing any risk of damaging them.
Poke'mon Hunter J- Let's just find those pieces of origami so we can get this over with.
Olly returned his attention to Olivia who was trembling in fear even more now after hearing what Dimentio said.
Olivia- We're running out of places to hide and it's only matter of time before they corner us!
Olly- I know…
Olivia- But Olly, what can we do?
Olly looked at his hand as he tightened his grip while seeming angry. But he quickly calmed down. Then Olly turned to look at Olivia again and looked like he had a difficult decision to make.
Olly- Don't worry, Olivia…I'll make sure they won't get you…no matter what…
(Somewhere else in the Mushroom King's Forest)
Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Kirby, Ash, Pikachu, and Ty came out of a portal from Smash City. Pikachu took a few steps away from Ash and began to sniff the area.
Ash- What's up, Pikachu? You smell something?
Pikachu believed he was smelling living, but he wasn't sure how to explain that to his master without sounding crazy.
Pikachu- Pika…
Goh's voice- Well anyway, I think I've got something for you. Ty's radar picked up three more signals of Tabuu's power and they're actually close by according to the computer screen.
Ty then pushes a button on the com link in his ear.
Ty- Thanks for the tip, Goh. We'll be on our guard.
Mario- Ok, time to set up the search party groups. Link and Ash, you search the east side.
Link- Sure thing, Mario.
Ash- Pikachu and I are ready to go. Right, buddy?
Pikachu- Pikachu!
Mario- Donkey Kong and Ty, you search the west side.
Ty- No worries, mate.
Donkey Kong- You got it, Mario.
Mario- Kirby, you and I will check the north side where Marco's grave it.
Kirby- As you wish, Mario.
Mario- Remember, if this is Tabuu related, don't try and engage on your own. We all know we can only beat Tabuu when we're together. Instead, inform the rest of us so we can take it on as a team like we usually do. Now move out!
Ash tossed two poke'balls into the air and called out his Charizard and Gengar.
Charizard- (Roar)
Gengar- Gengar!
Ash- You two be our eyes in the sky. Fly up and let us know if you see anything suspicious. But try not to be noticed either.
Charizard and Gengar nodded as they flew into the forest. Meanwhile, Link draws the Master Sword and holds it out.
Link- Fi, are you awake?
Fi's voice- I am, master.
Link- I need you to dowse for Tabuu's power. You remember what Tabuu's power felt like?
Fi's voice- I believe so. I'll set the Master Sword to dowse for any trace of Tabuu's power or how I remember Tabuu's power felt like.
Link- Thanks Fi.
Meanwhile, Ty was pulling out these shiny looking boomerangs.
Donkey Kong- What are those?
Ty- Me Infrarangs. They have the ability to find invisible objects. Figured we need them if whatever we're looking for is hiding from us.
Then Mario and Kirby began moving towards where Marco's grave was as Kirby noticed Mario having one hand placed on the handle of Marco's sword strapped to Mario's left hip.
Kirby- You seem a little nervous, Mario.
Mario- I am. You know that when Tabuu is involved, it's never good. And you also know that my ancestor's sword is the only thing we got that can fight back against Tabuu's power. I'd rather have it ready in case we need it.
Kirby- How have your skills in using that sword been going?
Mario- I'm a plumber, not a swordsman like Link. And certainly not a knight like Marco Mario was. But I'm not too shabby with it.
(Back with Olly and Olivia)
Olly and Olivia were still hiding behind that tree as Dimentio, Vaati, and Poke'mon Hunter J were getting closer to their hiding spot. Olly took a deep breath and grabbed hold of Olivia's hand.
Olivia- Olly? What are you…
Olly- Listen well, Olivia. No matter what, you are going to run! Run and don't look back! Not even for me!
Olivia- What?! Brother?! You can't mean…
Olly- Just do it! NOW!
Tears were coming from Olivia's eyes, but she knew Olly wasn't going to take no for an answer.
Olivia- Uh…Ok…but just make it back in one piece…
Olly- If one of us has to make it out of here, better you than me. I also know they can' revive that Empress without both of us. And as long as they don't have you, they can't.
Olivia- Olly…I…
Olly- GET GOING!
Then Olivia began running away. Olly took a deep breath before he began folding himself into another origami form. Vaati was searching the bushes when he noticed a huge set of claws was about to swipe at him. Vaati managed to dodge as what appeared to be an origami polar bear. However, it had King Olly's hairstyle and part of its paper body looked a bit dark purple.
Vaati- Nice try, Origami King. I even see you've decided to take on a Vellumental form.
Olly- That's right. This is the power of the Origami King! And why the Origami King is feared by all!
Olly shot a stream of ice from his mouth while in that Ice Vellumental form, but Poke'mon Hunter J called out her Salamence and used flamethrower to melt the ice attack.
Dimentio- Oh please. You were quite impressive during Paper Mario: The Origami King, but you know that your power pales in comparison to the Empress who was folded 1,000 years before you were. But we should be thanking you for coming out of hiding. This will save us the trouble of searching this entire forest. Now why don't you and your sister come along quietly?
Olly- Never!
Then Olly shot another blast of ice at them, but Dimentio snapped his fingers and they vanished like a dimensional panel shifted their position to avoid Olly's attack. Then they flipped behind Olly.
Poke'mon Hunter J- Salamence, hyper beam.
Salamence- (Roar)
Then the attack struck Olly from behind and knocked him to the ground. Olly quickly changed from the Ice Vellumental form to the Earth Vellumental form which looked like a giant turtle. Olly stomped on the ground and made parts of the ground shoot up like a pillar. Poke'mon Hunter J and Vaati got on Salamence's back to fly way, but Dimentio flipped dimensions to avoid the attack. But before Olly realized, several ghost-like hands suddenly grabbed Olly by the shell from underneath him. Olly looked behind him and saw a Poke'mon called Runerigus grab hold of him.
Poke'mon Hunter J- Nice work, Runerigus. Now throw him!
Runerigus- Runerigus!
Then Olly got tossed into the air before he crashed back into the ground. Olly changed out of the Earth Vellumental form after he hit the ground and back to his regular form. But before he could try another Vellumental form, Dimentio flipped behind Olly and placed some kind of shocking collar around Olly's neck, electrocuting him and preventing him from even moving.
Olly- GWAHHHHH!
Dimentio- Well, I believe this predicament is a bit…shocking for you.
Vaati- Nice capture…lousy pun, Dimentio.
Poke'mon Hunter J- At least we have the Origami King recaptured.
Dimentio- Hold on a minute…something is missing here.
Vaati- What?
Dimentio- Where's his sister, Olivia?
Olly- I'll die…(shock)…before I talk…(shock)…
Dimentio- Oh…Tabuu will not like this knowing what one of them is still on the loose.
Poke'mon Hunter J- Well, she can't be far. She wouldn't just abandon her brother like this.
(In another part of the Mushroom King's Forest)
Olivia was crying like crazy as she was running way against her will. She wanted to turn around and help her brother, but she knew that she would be captured like Olly was if she did.
Olivia- Oh Olly…I can't believe you've made me do this…but there has to be a way to save you and…
Suddenly, Olivia collided with something and fell to the ground. However, whatever it was she ran into felts soft and squishy. But to her surprise, it also turned around and look down at her.
Kirby- POYO…?
Olivia- AAAAAHHHH! Don't hurt me!
Kirby- Huh? You don't need to worry. I'm not gonna hurt you.
Mario- Hey Kirby, why'd you stop? Did you find something?
Olivia- Hang on…that voice…
Then Mario walked up to Kirby.
Kirby- Actually, I think I did.
Then Mario looks down and sees the little origami girl on the ground.
Mario- Hang on…Olivia?!
Olivia- Mario! Oh thank goodness I've found you!
Kirby- You know her, Mario?
Mario- Yeah. Her name is Olivia and she's the younger sister of the Origami King, Olly. But you sacrificed yourself to undo the damage Olly caused after you folded Olly's body into the thousandth origami crane to complete the 1,000 cranes technique. I saw you and Olly die over three years ago!
Olivia- It's a long story. But you have to help me save Olly! This horrible monster named Tabuu…
Mario- TABUU?!
Just then, Kirby noticed there was a small glowing light coming from Olivia's left arm. Kirby quickly grabbed it and lifted it upward, revealing a small and dimly lit version of Tabuu's mark on Olivia's left hand.
Kirby- Mario…I think she might be what Ty's radar picked up earlier.
Mario- Oliva, tell me everything!
