Chapter 3: Olivia's Safehouse

(Toad Town)

All of the Toads in Toad Town were all making preparations for an origami festival that was approaching soon. Origami decorations were being set up on every block and they were all practicing their folding techniques. Toad was coordinating these other Toads as they were carrying a large origami structure of Marco Mario to the center of town.

Toad- That's it. A little to the left. Careful now. We all don't want the image of Mario's great ancestor being wrecked before the Origami Festival can begin tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Vector and Espio were seen in the background watching the Toads. Vector was munching on a hamburger while Espio was attempting to fold a paper crane.

Vector- Gee…these mushroom heads really seem to like this…uh…what's it called again?

Espio- Origami. A sacred and ancient art of folding into various shapes and forms originating from the Edo era of Japan.

Vector- Right…just folded paper is all I see it is.

Espio- Trust me, Vector, there is more to it than that. In fact, I remember Mario and Sonic mentioning that during the previous Origami Festival three years ago, the Mushroom Kingdom was almost torn apart by an origami known as the Origami King.

Vector- Not sure I see how something like folded paper could do that.

Then Tails walked up to them while holding an origami lantern he folded.

Tails- Espio did just tell you that origami is more that folding paper. It's a form of art. And art has many forms.

Espio- Did you fold that lantern yourself?

Tails- Sure did. I read up on a few folding techniques before Mario invited us.

Then Tails turned around to one of the folding tables after hearing a loud ripping sound. There, Tails saw Knuckles ripping the paper while attempting to fold it.

Knuckles- Not again! Why does it always rip every time I try to make a crane or something?!

Tails- Maybe you should be less forceful when handling the folding paper, Knuckles.

Espio- Say, where's Sonic?

Tails- He received a call from Mario telling him to meet in Smash City. But he should be back soon as well as the rest of the Super Mario Brothers' Team. But where's Charmy?

Vector- He said he wanted to explore more of Toad Town and see how the rest of the town was setting itself up for the festival.

(Origami Craftsman's shop)

Charmy had opened the door and flew right in also ringing the bell attached to the door. As Charm flew in, he saw a huge pile of books piled up at the front counter like there was a mess building up. Eventually, a Toad peeked his head from behind the pile and looked over at Charmy.

Origami Craftsman- Oh, a customer! Pardon the mess over here. I was…just trying to find something.

Charmy- Looking for something to fold for the festival?

Origami Craftsman- Actually, I'm looking for a book containing certain…folding techniques…dangerous ones…

Charmy- Dangerous? How is origami dangerous?

Origami Craftsman- Well, you see, I'm the best origami craftsman in the Mushroom Kingdom and I contain tons of books about folding techniques for origami. But during the last Origami Festival, I discovered a book containing details for a forbidden form of origami, the Fold of Life, which can bring origami to life. But it was labeled as forbidden 1,000 years ago for a reason. I brought the Origami King to life and he almost destroyed the Mushroom Kingdom. But a couple of weeks ago, the book with the instructions for the Fold of Life has gone missing. I've been trying to find the book, but I'm beginning to think I've been robbed.

Charmy- Maybe I can help. I am part of a private detective agency. Although, I think Vector and Espio will want to enjoy themselves at the festival. Hell, I can take this case on my own.

Origami Craftsman- You will?!

Charmy- How hard can solving a theft mystery on my own be? Besides, I've got a mean stinger that will make a big owie to any bad guy I sting with it.

(Smash City)

Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Kirby, Ash and Pikachu, Ty, Goh, and Olivia were in the meeting room with Olivia standing…or floating…above the table.

Olivia- Wow, Mario! So, these are all your friends?

Mario- Yes. I now lead a team of heroes. These are a few members of my team. The super strong gorilla, Donkey Kong. The skilled sword master, Link. The adorable yet deadly Star Warrior, Kirby. The clever and talented Poke'mon Trainer, Ash Ketchum. And the brilliant strategist, Ty the Tasmanian Tiger.

Olivia- Pleasure to meet you all.

Olivia politely bowed her head to them.

Mario- There are some members of the team that aren't here, but we did contact them and they should be arriving here soon.

Olivia- I look forward to meeting them. I hope they're all as nice as you.

Link- But if you don't mind us asking…why do you have Tabuu's mark on your hand?

Olivia- I guess you could say…Olly and I accidentally made a deal with this Tabuu fella and…

Ty- Hold on there, shela! How do you ACCIDENTALLY make a deal with Tabuu?!

Olivia- We didn't know what Tabuu wanted with us when he folded us back to life.

Donkey Kong- Folded?

Mario- Olivia is origami, not flesh and blood like us. During the last Origami Festival three years ago, the Origami Craftsman brought Olivia and her brother to life with a supposed folding technique called the Fold of Life. But after I defeated Olly, his paper completely unfolded and left him as an unfolded blank paper. Olivia than folded him into the 1,000th origami crane to complete the 1,000 Cranes Technique to have one wish granted. And Olivia wished to undo all the damage Olly had caused which also unfolded her as well.

Olivia- That's right. But then Tabuu brought us back. He used some spell called the Dead Possum to pull our souls back to life and used the Fold of Life to create these new bodies he placed our souls into. But Tabuu told us that he needed our help with a project he was working on. Little did we know that Tabuu was intending to use us as a sacrifice. That's why me and Olly attempted to escape. But Olly…

Olivia began to cry a little as she placed her hands on her chest.

Mario- I'm sorry about what happened to Olly. I know he and I had some…differences in the past…but we will rescue him. But please, tell us what Tabuu is up to.

Olivia- Right. Tabuu said he wanted to revive another origami person, one who was folded before me and Olly were. Turns out, the reason why the Fold of Life was forbidden was because 1,000 years ago a horrible monster was the very first thing brought to life by the Fold of Life, one that was even stronger and more deadly than even my brother, Olly.

Mario- That is hard to believe, considering I remember how strong Olly was. The author even admits that Olly gave him a game over the first time he played Paper Mario: The Origami King when he got to the final boss fight.

Olivia- I think Tabuu said she was called…thinking…thinking…That's it! The Origami Empress was her name!

Just then, Link remembered during that spiritual visit from Wolf in his dreams, Wolf warned him about the Origami Empress.

Link- What this what Wolf was telling me…

Ash- Hang on. If Tabuu just wants this Origami Empress…why not just revive her instead of you and your brother?

Olivia- The Empress' soul is locked away in a temple hidden somewhere and certain wards have been placed to prevent her from being folded into existence again. Which is why Tabuu needed us for. The sacrificing of the Origami King and his sister would break the seal and allow her soul to be free once more. Then Tabuu can fold her a new body. And I know that the first thing Tabuu intends to do with the Origami Empress is sic her on you and the Mushroom Kingdom. But why does Tabuu hate you so much, Mario?

Mario- Tell me, Olivia…have you ever heard of a knight from the Mushroom Kingdom named…Marco Mario?

Olivia- Yes, I've heard Tabuu mention that name several times. But whenever he says that name or hears one of his servants say that name, Tabuu gets angry, like he's ready to hurt someone.

Mario- Well, 1,000 years ago, Tabuu attempted to destroy this world. However, someone stood in his way. My ancestor, Marco Mario. However, even Marco couldn't stop Tabuu…or at least not on his own. Marco had many friends who were willing to fight at his side and working together like a team, they managed to defeat Tabuu and seal him away in Subspace. And since Marco was my ancestor, I'm now the main focus of Tabuu's revenge. And that's why I formed this team of my own, because if Marco and his friends could best Tabuu by working together, then so can us. In fact, this sword I have strapped to my left hip is actually the same sword wielded by Marco. And it's also the only weapon we have that can hurt Tabuu even at his full power. It even did a number on Tabuu the last time we fought. Stabbed right through his left hand on both ends.

Olivia- That would explain why Tabuu has his entire left hand all bandaged up or why using his powers was causing him great pain through his left palm.

Suddenly, Sonic walked into the room.

Sonic- Hey, Mario. Sorry I'm a little late. And that's something that almost never happens when you're as fast as I am. Huh…?

Just then Sonic noticed Olivia on the table of the meeting room.

Sonic- Hey, an origami figure.

Sonic then got a closer look at Olivia.

Sonic- And it's so well folded. The design and attention to detail is spot on.

Olivia- Uh…

Then Sonic quickly grabbed her in his palm.

Sonic- I want to try!

Mario- Sonic, wait!

But Sonic didn't listen. He began folding Olivia into different origami forms while folding her body as fast as he can run.

Sonic- An origami crane!

Sonic folded Olivia into a crane and even pulled on the tail to make the wings flap. However, Olivia showed signs of discomfort in her eyes. But it didn't last long before Sonic began folding her again with his hands moving so fast.

Sonic- An origami monkey!

Olivia looked at the monkey folded and did think Sonic did a good job with this form. But before she could do or say anything, Sonic began folding her body into another origami fold.

Sonic- An origami dragon!

Then Olivia turned her head to look at Sonic and Sonic seemed very surprised when she did.

Olivia- Excuse me, but could you please stop? This kind of hurts.

Sonic- It talks?!

Then Sonic let go of Olivia. Then Olivia refolded her body from the origami dragon Sonic folder her into and changed it back to her original origami figure form.

Olivia- Oh…my head…the whole world is spinning…I don't think anyone has folded me that fast before…

Mario- Sorry about that Olivia. This is Sonic the Hedgehog, another member of the team. And he's known for his ability to move at the speed of sound.

Sonic- I'm faster than the speed of sound and you know that.

Olivia- Oh man…you folding me over and over like that at your super speed reminds me of the time Olly paid a fan of this fanfiction series a visit and folded her. I think it happened before Tabuu revived us though. Oh…but I still feel so dizzy…

Sonic- Mario…care to explain who this is?

Mario- This is Olivia, a friend of mine who helped me when her brother, the Origami King, attacked the Mushroom Kingdom.

Kirby- And she was about to tell us about what Tabuu was is up to until you decided to start playing with her body.

Sonic- I didn't know she was alive!

Goh- Hey Mario, looks like the rest of gang is here.

Then Luigi, Yoshi, Pit, and Shantae enter the room.

Olivia- It's your brother, Luigi.

Mario- This is the rest of my team. My brother, Luigi. Our old dinosaur pal, Yoshi. The angel, Pit. And the half-genie, Shantae.

Olivia- Nice to meet you. My na…

Pit- I know you. You're Olivia, King Olly's sister.

Olivia- Hang on…how do you know that?

Pit- Oh, I recently played Paper Mario: The Origami King during my free time. Pretty good game, though I've only finished about half of it so far.

(Back in the Mushroom King's Forest)

Dimentio, Vaati, and Poke'mon Hunter J were catching their breath after struggling to find where Olivia was hiding. Olly was in a cage with the shock collar still around his neck and still electrocuting him. In fact, Dimentio was taking a seat on the cage they locked Olly in.

Poke'mon Hunter J- This doesn't make sense. How is it that we haven't found her yet?

Vaati- Even if the Origami King attacking was just a diversion so his sister could escape from us, we would've at least picked up her trail in the woods by now.

Dimentio- Then it's obvious…Olivia isn't in this forest anymore. So, your majesty…where might your precious little sister run off to?

Olly- **** you…(shock)…you twisted jester…(shock)…even I don't know…(shock)…

Then they heard a videophone ring and Dimentio pulled out a videophone.

Dimentio- It's Tabuu…you don't think he's made we only got one of them?

Vaati- Better answer him before he gets angry.

Then Dimentio pushed the on button and Tabuu's face appeared on the screen.

Dimentio- Master Tabuu…uh…good news is we've successfully recaptured Olly…

Tabuu- And the bad news is you let Olivia get away while Olly kept you all distracted. But luckily for you, I've found out where she is.

Poke'mon Hunter J- And where is Olivia?

Tabuu- Unfortunately, that's the bad news. (Grunts)…out of all the people to find her…why did it have to be him…

Dimentio- Uh…who found her, Master Tabuu…?
