A/N: Sorry for the 3 day break, had to deal with some personal things
Shadow continued at a brisk pace with the Boy, something which he doubted Sonic could ever do but Shadow enjoyed his slow moments, though he would never admit it to anyone. He had learned the boy's name, Jaune Arc, a peculiar name to Shadow but he didn't think much of it, he had more important things to learn about in this world.
"What were those creatures that attacked me and you earlier?" Shadow asked, curious to know what the Mephiles clones were exactly.
"If I'm being honest, which I am, my parents never told me much about the Grimm, only that they were creatures of pure darkness that I should try my best to avoid."
"It sounds like your parents did you a disservice by not informing you how to defend yourself against these Grimm creatures, from the looks of things if I had not arrived at your location when I did you most likely would've died." Shadow responded in a simple fact stating tone
"H-hey! I'm a huntsman in the making here! I could've totally taken those Grimm by myself!" Jaune stated in a somewhat falsely confident tone, something Shadow saw through almost immediately.
"Either you would've died or been grievously wounded, which would have just caused you to die in a slower, more painful way. Whatever this Huntsman" thing is, you clearly aren't ready for it" Shadow stated matter of factly.
Jaune attempted to come up with a rebuttal, but he knew inside that Shadow was right, he didn't even know what he was doing in the slightest possibly way, he didn't have the skills required to even enter Beacon or even Signal, he had faked his transcripts for the brothers sake!
Jaune went silent after Shadow's comment and looked down at the ground in contemplation as they continued to walk.
The silence started to become unnerving to Shadow, and as he took a glance at the boy next to him, he felt a feeling of pity arise inside of him, he knew what it felt like to be weak and unable to do anything, and the feeling of wanting to help others, both feelings brought about by Her, and this Jaune did bear a strong resemblance to Maria, if she were male that is.
"You clearly feel guilty about something, and I have a feeling it has to do with your current level of weakness. You want to help others and protect them, but you aren't strong enough to do so, are you?" Shadow queried, wanting to know if he was correct with his assumption and to see if he could offer his help to this boy, as he had failed to do in the past.
Jaune was not particularly ready for this inquiry and nearly jumped at the accuracy of the claim made by Shadow. How could this alien know so much about him in such a short amount of time?
He shook his head to calm himself and responded with "That's correct s-Sir, I've always wanted to be a huntsman since I was young, so I could protect those who couldn't protect themselves, and I thought I could do it, but I never got the chance too thanks to my parents, they never wanted me in harms way"
"I thought that if I only got into a school like Beacon, I could prove myself to both me and my family, prove them wrong and protect people like all of my ancestors before me, but after the incident with the Grimm, I think they might've been right about me, maybe I should just go back home if I need to be saved and not the one doing the saving." Jaune stated in a melancholic tone, but he quickly snapped out of it once he saw the almost killer glare Shadow was giving him.
"What did you say a huntsman job was again? To protect people, to defend the innocent? You clearly are not cut out for the job."
Jaune gulped as he prepared for the most visceral verbal smackdown of his life.
"You lack the training required to defend yourself, let alone others, and you did not pursue this selfless and dangerous career out of the kindness of your heart but out of a selfish goal to prove yourself better then thought as by others. You seek a life of glory instead of a life of selfless aid to others, You, Jaune Arc, will never become a true huntsman or hero unless you abandon this path you are on and accept your weaknesses, and defeat them to become stronger and better, so you can become the hero that not only you want to be but the one this world needs."
Shadow gazed at the stunned blonde boy, watching as his speech entered his brain and started to turn the cogs of his mind, and before Jaune could have a rebuttal or any kind of response, Shadow said something which would, unknowingly, change both of their lives forever.
"I was in a similar situation to you once (as Shadow remembered the events of the ARK, along with images of Sonic flashing in his mind), and as I received aid then, I give to you now, I offer you my training and support Jaune, I will help you grow as both a person and as a huntsman to the best of my ability, I will make you worthy of your title and you will become a great force for the good of this world"
Jaune was honestly flabbergasted, his day had not gone at all as he had expected it too. He had assumed he would just be going on a 1-way trip to Beacon and somehow manage things from there, not get berated, saved and offered to be taught (not in that order) by an Alien of all things, but he couldn't say no to his offer, as he knew Shadow was right in his claim that Jaune was selfish, his dream had been tainted by a want to prove himself to his peers and family for the first time, but this Shadow was willing to bring him back to his true goal and finally get to his true potential.
"I-i accept Shadow."
"Good, your training starts soon, but firstly, we need to find where we are at the moment, if you haven't noticed, we've been walking in a circle for the past 30 minutes, if my measurements of time are still accurate to this world" Shadow stated in a semi-annoyed tone
Jaune had a mental freak out at the mention of the time passed, and from what he could see of the Sun, which appeared much lower than it was just a few moments ago, Shadow was most likely right in his assumption of how much time had passed. Jaune's face went pale as he muttered to himself "We missed the bullhead" "We missed.."
Shadow wondered what Jaune was groaning about, before seeing a medium sized aircraft fly off above their heads and into the horizon, he could only assume this was the "bullhead" Jaune was referring to in his ramblings as he groveled on his knees on the floor.
Assuming that was their ride to this Beacon place Jaune had mentioned, they had just missed their flight and would most likely have to wait a few days for the next one, and to Shadow's knowledge that would likely affect Jaune's admittance into Beacon.
Thinking for a moment on this, Shadow did something that terrified Jaune, he grabbed Jaune by the collar and yanked him onto his shoulder, as Jaune heard a slight buzzing noise turn into a mini jet engine as he glanced towards the ground to see Shadow's shoes catch on what looked like fire and before he could properly react, they bursted off at speeds that nearly knocked Jaune out, and most definitely activated his motion sickness as he felt himself ready to vomit.
Shadow kicked his airshoes into action as he sped off in the direction that the bullhead had headed, ready to follow it until they reached a roadblock, his speed increasing exponentially, until he reached a pace that he knew if he exceeded might injure Jaune from the sheer G-Forces and Air hitting him.
Shadow continued to hover along, following the bullhead until they reached a massive expanse of ocean, with Jaune crawling off of Shadow's shoulder and vomiting his guts out all over the beach. Shadow glared at the now far gone bullhead and groaned to himself, he did not believe what he was about to do, but he had made a promise to Jaune, and in the name of all he believed in and Her, he would never break a promise he had made, even the smallest of the small.
He looked towards Jaune, and waited for him to finish his puking session, before grabbing him once more, the confused and dazed Jaune looked at Shadow before getting once more tossed on his shoulder, as Shadow looked on towards the disappearing bullhead one last time before summoning his remaining Chaos Energy and yelling to the heavens themselves "CHAOS CONTROL", covering both him and Jaune in a glow of yellow and blue energy as they disappeared in a flash of light.
Jaune gasped as he and Shadow reappeared inside of the bullhead, and he quickly looked for the nearest trash can as he noticed he was surrounded by dozens of people, 2 of which he took note of, a Blonde bombshell and a young-ish looking girl with red hair and silver eyes, but his thinking quickly returned to his original task as his stomach tried to stab him, as he vomited in his mouth and dripped some onto the aforementioned blondes shoes, getting a yell from her as he found the sweet heavenly trashcan and vomited into it, this process going on for over 2 minutes before he found himself stable enough to look around the ship once more.
As he scanned the crowd around him (including the 2 girls, who had now moved away from him, for obvious reasons), he noticed that Shadow was not visible among the crowd, and got a feeling of disappointment in his stomach as he thought that again he was given a false promise and left alone to his devices, but he tried to ignore this feeling as the bullhead came close to landing at Beacon, as he prepared himself for his new future, the lessons told by Shadow lingering in his mind as the ship came to a slow landing.
Chaos Control on its own with 1 person was taxing enough, but doing it with 2 people, and making sure they have different destinations without the aid of an Emerald was extremely taxing to Shadow's body and energy reserves, he laid down in an ally in what he could only assume to be the city of Vale Jaune had mentioned haphazardly earlier in their discussion, he made sure his resting spot was in the shadows so as to not be seen by anyone, he did not need unwanted attention on himself and he hoped Jaune could understand his reason for disappearing, he hoped the boy could take of himself for a bit before he made his return known.
As the day crept on, Shadow continued to rest as he tried to regain his energy, his Chaos Energy seemed to be hampered somewhat on this world, not able to recharge as quickly as he would like, but as his metaphorical batteries came back to him, he could sense a feeling similar to what he felt whenever a Chaos Emerald was near, but much weaker in nature and in a more spread out area.
He slowly got up to investigate this, groaning all the while, as he pushed his feet to investigate this feeling, he heard several voices shout things he couldn't quite make out, but as he drew closer he could hear a prominent, accented voice speak up and say "Hurry it up you animals, we don't have all day, we need to make this quick and clean so it doesn't get interrupted like it did last time with Little Red"
Shadow groaned to himself, as he slowly approached the location that he felt the energy in, and realized that this energy he was feeling was the same crystals he could see that the men were stealing, and as got closer, he could make out what he thought was their leader, a Ginger with a bowler hat and large cane..
A/N: I thought this chapter was a noticeable improvement from the last one, but everything is always up to personal preference, please leave any criticisms in the reviews, it would be greatly appreciated, sorry if any characters act a little strange, hard to get that down correctly.
