-Joyful Wild

It was a nice morning on the Igiby farm. The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, and-

"AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRRR! NOT THE TOTATOES!" There's Podo trying to catch a thwap.

Again.

But inside the little cottage we find Nia making breakfast while Janner who is seven years old and reading a book in on the couch, Tink who is six and drawing on a piece of paper on the floor, and Leeli who was only four and was sitting on the floor with her wooden toy dog that was made by Podo. And today was a very exciting day for Janner because tomorrow he was going to turn eight years old. Janner was coming down stairs from his room having a book in his hand and a smile on his face. "Momma guess what?"

Nia turned from the stove and smiled back at Janner. "What is it, Janner?"

"I just finished my book!"

"Already? Did you like it?"

"Yeah, I loved it!"

Then Podo came marching through with a sack full of thwaps mumbling along the way. "Oh those little good for nothing rats... so annoying... ridiculous!" He then put the sack in the corner and sat at the table wiping the sweat off his forehead with a piece of cloth then sighed. Then little Leeli got up, still holding her toy, and limped over to him with a big smile and big, bright eyes. By now Leeli knew how to use the crutch just couldn't move to fast with it yet. She reached up at Podo and said, "Up please?" Then Podo smiled and picked her up and sat her onto his lap. Nia smiled some more as she went back to making breakfast.

"How's my little Leeli today?"

"My dog went on a adventure!"

"Oh he did, eh?"

Leeli nodded. Then Janner sat in a chair next to Podo and said, "Grandpa I finished a book today."

"Was it about a dog?" Leeli asked.

"No."

"Oh." Leeli said as her smile vanished. Then Janner remembered something from his book. "Well, it was mostly about a king of a far away land but there was a character that had a dog."

Leeli's smile came back, "Really!"

"Yeah, you'll have to read it sometime. You to Tink."

"Huh?" Tink said looking up from his work.

"I said that I think that you should read this book." Janner said as he held out his book.

"No thanks. Reading's boring."

"No it's not!"

"Yes it is!"

"No it's not!"

"Yes it is!"

"Boys!" Nia said. Then both boys stared at their mom. "You really don't need to be arguing about this."

"But Tink said that reading is boring."

"It will be okay Janner. Some people like reading and some people don't. Everybody is different. Now Tink com to the table for breakfast."

"BREAKFAST!" Tink exclaimed. Once he got to the table he nudged Janner. "Ow!"

"Tink! Please be nice to your brother."

The next day Janner was just full of excitement. It was his birthday! Everybody wished him a happy birthday then Podo asked, "What are ye gonna wish for when ye blow out yer candles?"

"I'm going to wish for Tink to read that book that I showed him yesterday."

Podo laughed, "Aye, if he does then I'll eat my hat." Then he walked outside to check on his garden. Leaving Janner quite confused on why his grandfather would eat a hat. But that was what he wished for that very day.

Years passed and Janner was running through the long halls of Castle Rysen. He had heard the greatest news of his life. Soon Kalmar caught up to him. "Janner you know it's not that big of a deal. I mean like it's not like it's gotta be in a history book or something." But Janner kept running until he found Podo.

"Now what in tarnation is going on?"

"Nothing much!" Kalmar quickly exclaimed.

"Grandpa you remember the time it was my eighth birthday and I told you what I wished for?"

Both Kalmar and Podo was surprised at what Janner said then Podo said, "Yes I do."

"And you remember what you said about?"

"Yes."

"Well," Janner took off Podo's hat and held out to him, "Eat up."

"What!?"

"You said Grandpa that if Kalmar read the book that I told him to read you would eat your hat."

"Wait what is happening?" Kalmar asked.

"Look Grandpa said that he would eat his hat. First I saw you reading that book now I have to see him eat his hat. Then it would officially be the most unbelievable day of my life. And also congratulations on your new love for books."

"Whoa, hold up. I never said I like all books I just like that ONE book. One book and that's it.

"Sure." Janner said rolling his eyes. "Now come on Grandpa eat up you said you would."

"Oh boy." Podo said with a sigh.
