Chapter 2
Let's say you were in Lynn's shoes and were asked how you did not see the family dog chewing away on your soccer ball before running up and giving it a hard kick…
…
Well…
…
That is how Lynn feels right now. It all happened so fast. She was in the backyard minding her own business practicing for her next soccer game. Kicking the ball aground, dribbled it between her knees, and practiced a few goal shots…Let's be honest here, Lynn is no average ball player, she is a champion! And like all champions, she practices like her next game is her last. But like other champions, all that heavy thinking and pushing herself can blind her from what goes on around her. Like how others talk to her, whom she passes by in the street, and…for this case…not seeing before she kicks. That is why now she finds herself with her entire family at the vet's office waiting for the doctor to come out with an update on Charles. By this point, you can tell everyone is worried. But none as worried as Lincoln. Makes sense he was the one who heard the dog's yelp coming from outside. And finding him all banged up with multiple bruises around his body.
Lincoln (Pacing around the waiting room, biting his lip): "…"
Leni (With a frown): "Linky…Come sit down. Walking around like that won't help Charles get better."
Lincoln (Turns to his sister): "Sorry…I'm really worried about Charles."
Luna: "We're all worried bro."
Lola: "I don't know why the vet's taking so long."
Luan: "Charles has a ton of bruises." (Shivers): "And I think his leg might be bent out of place."
This gets Lincoln to pace around even faster.
Lynn (Goes up to her brother): "Come on Linc. Let's take a walk outside."
Lincoln (Stops and faces her): "Lynn…"
Lynn (Holds up her hands defensively): "I know you might be mad at me…Okay…Okay…probably furious at me for what I did. But…"
Lincoln (Takes a deep breath to calm himself down): "Look Lynn… I don't know what to think right now." (Puts his head down): "I…I… all I can think about is Charles."
Lori gets up and puts a comforting arm around Lincoln.
Lori (Leads him outside): "Come on…"
Once the two are gone, the doctor comes in, looking over some papers on his clipboard.
Vet: "Mister and Ms. Loud?"
Rita (Gets up along with her husband): "That us."
Lynn Sr.: "How's he doing doctor? Is Charles going to be okay?"
Vet: "Well, I have some good news and a bit of bad news. The good news is that Charles is going to be just fine."
The Loud sister present, except Lynn, all gave a cheer of happiness.
Vet: "However, he's going to need time to heal. Luckily no internal injuries were caused when Charles landed on the frame of your back porch. But his left back leg was discounted. We popped it back into place and put a cast around it. He'll need to wear a cone, so we won't chew on the bandages. And there is a chance he might need physical therapy after the cast is removed."
Lisa (Comes over): "Is there any chance we can see him?"
Vet: "Aww…" (Looks down at Lisa with a smile): "I'm sorry sweetie. But Charles needs his rest." (Looks back at the parents): "He'll also need to spend the night here. That way we can obverse him and see if there is any way we can make the healing process more comfortable for him."
Luan: "But we can come to pick him up tomorrow, right?"
Vet: "Of course..."
Lynn (Looking down, while scratching her foot against the title floor): "At least he's going to be okay."
After saying thank you to the doctor and filling out all the necessary paperwork. We cut to the entire Loud Family driving home along the road. And even though it's silent, a rare state for the family to be in. An important question is asked.
Lola: "Where did Charles even come from?"
