Week one: Oceans

Day 3: Sea Creatures

Summary: Levi is trying to court tropical mer! Eren but is having trouble figuring out his customs. TLDR: He listened to Hange

There were a couple routes I was gonna go but at 1am this is the best your gonna get lolol

The reef was warm and bright, colorful in a way that hurt Levi's eyes. He was used to the darkness, coming from the deeper parts of the ocean with his pod. Every year they meet up with neighboring pods to spread peace and shit. Levi didn't care, just following along to ensure his family didn't get hurt. Until he saw the most beautiful mermaid he had ever seen. Long, beautiful brown hair. Gorgeously tanned skin. A long verdigris tail that fanned out into an aquamarine fin. But most of all, his gorgeous green eyes shone brightly with a passionate fire in whatever he did.

Levi was absolutely and undoubtedly charmed by him. Eren, son of the healer of the warm water pod. So of course, he began to court the pretty mer. As was tradition, he left fish, a handmade spear, and a sturdy sheath at the opening of his dwelling. Eren had seemed to accept these things, much to Levi's joy, but Levi was confused when he in turn did not receive tokens of the brunets affection. In fact, Eren only mentioned them once when he thanked Levi for the gifts. To say Levi had been sulky the rest of the day was an understatement.

Confused and close to heartbreak, he turned to his last resort.

"So you want to fuck the pretty warm blood? Well, why didn't you come to me sooner!" Hange screeched, cackling at the disturbed look on his face when their tentacles got too close.

"Because you're a fucking creep. Why did I even come here?"

"Because despite your shortcomings and emotional ineptitude you love me."

He threw a cutting board at them, smirking at their indignant squawk.

"Rude! Anyway, you've been going about this all wrong. You're courting a warm blood, they have different traditions than we do."

He stilled, feeling a little ignorant for not realizing that sooner.

"Then… what do they do to court one another?"

"Well, that's easy! Here's what you gotta do!"

A couple of days later, Levi swam beside the brunet, enjoying listening to him talk about his day.

"And then Jean, that stupid fuck, put Zeloe Kelp right on the rash! It just made Connie's rash grow even bigger! I wanted to strangle that seahorse right then and there!" Eren ranted passionately, green tail flicking in agitation. All Levi could focus on were his plush lips and pretty eyes. He's so pretty, I want to make him mine.

"But enough about that. What have you and the other deep seas been up to? Has the solan been working to keep away the sunburns?" Eren asked, always so considerate of him and his pod. Levi's heart warmed, but just as he was about to respond, he realized they were coming up on the surprise he had planned. Perfect.

"Yes, it's been working. But, I have a question, Eren. It's important."

"Oh, sure, what is it?"

Levi sighed, sending a quiet prayer to mother ocean before looking into those beautiful eyes he adored so much. Please work. He whistled. A long, clear noise that resounded through the reef. Eren tilted his head, confused at the sudden outburst.

"Levi?"

He moved forward, close enough to gently put his hands on Eren's shoulders.

Just as Eren was about to ask what was going on, they appeared. Six dolphins torpedoed across the reef, getting into position as they chittered happily at the pair. Eren instantly lit up, wanting to move to greet the dolphins but not wanting to dislodge Levi's hands.

In mere moments, the dolphins began to sing. Sharp clicks and melodious whistles filled the reef, Levi joining in as he slowly moved closer to his chosen mate. Eren was speechless, watching as 4 dolphins harmonized while two did tricks, spinning and twirling about to the melody. Levi's voice was much deeper than theirs, his tune slightly different as they sang to Eren. After a few minutes Levi stopped, erasing the space between them to give a small kiss to Eren's nose.

"Eren." He murmured softly.

"Yes?"

"Will you accept this gift and consider me as a potential mate?" Levi asked.

Eren stood still, stunned at the events that just played out. The silence continued for a moment too long, Levi's confidence quickly spiraling into doubt the longer Eren stared.

"Eren?" He murmured, feeling his heart thud painfully in his chest. That seemed to snap Eren out of it, he quickly shook his head to clear it and gave Levi a soft smile.

"I'm sorry I just… I was a little taken aback by your performance. I never expected to see a deep ea courting ritual like that is all. I do, Levi. I would love to be courted by you." Eren replied with a soft smile. Levi reanimated, feeling the weight of doubt swiftly fall from his shoulders as Eren leaned in and kissed his nose, wrapping Levi in his warm arms. Levi was content, mouth upturned in a small smile before he suddenly processed all that Eren said.

"Wait. What do you mean deep sea ritual?" Eren seemed puzzled, leaning his head back to look at Levi but still unwilling to let go of their hug.

"Well, just as I said. I was a little shocked, I never expected a deep sea courting ritual to be singing with dolphins. I didn't think dolphins even went down to your depths." He explained, further confusing Levi.

"But this isn't a deep sea ritual. This is your pod's courting ritual."

Eren's face said it all.

"Uh… no it's not. The only courting ritual we have is making jewelry for our chosen one."

It was at that moment he heard a sharp laugh, followed by an 'ow!' and some shushing. Levi spun around, searching before he saw brown tendrils of hair floating behind a large brain coral.

That fucking bastard.

"HANGE!" He growled out, dorsal fins flaring as they filled with blood. The coral squeaked, and slowly Hange's head appeared from behind, followed by Erwin, Furlan, and Isabel.

"Heyyyyyyyyyy look at you! What are you, uh, doing here?" They attempted to save themself, but Levi was already darting forward, chasing them through the cloud of black ink they quickly dispensed.

"AHH! LEVI NO! I DID IT FOR SCIENCE! PLEASE SPARE ME! FURLAN! ISABEL! ERWIN! HELP MEeeEeEEeE!" They screeched, barely evading the furious merman barreling after him. Eren swam up to the trio, watching as the two swam around, Hange hiding in between corals to try and slow down the mer who was very intent on killing them. The dolphins eventually joined the chase, mistaking it for a game of tag.

"So what is going on?"

"Hange told big bro that the way to your heart was through a carefully choreographed acapella with a pod of dolphins," Isabel explained, trying to hold back a laugh. Eren did let out a chuckle, unable to help it as he thought about how hard it must've been. Getting six dolphins to agree to do it, actually choreographing it, and keeping them all on task throughout must've been stressful. Heart warmed, he swam forward, catching Levi by the wrist just as he was about to lunge at Hange with a rather large piece of barnacle.

"Levi, I really did like it. I was stunned at first but… you have a really pretty voice. Will you please sing to our pups as well?"

Levi froze, eyes dilating at the thought of Eren round with his pups. Eren smirked, knowing exactly what type of effect he had on him.

"Kiss me?" Levi was more than happy to oblige, licking his way into Eren's pliant mouth all while Hange escaped, happy to know Eren had it handled from then on. The dolphins squeaked and whistled, chasing after the brunet while the two mers kissed.
