Part One - Empathy - Chapter 4

Meanwhile, back in the real world, Team Alex or Alex and Kelly, Darius and James decided to split up. With both subgroups trying to track down the delivery person and the source of the package. Alex and Kelly get a lead on the delivery person and followed them to a small apartment complex.

Alex confronted the delivery person and demanded to know where the package came from. The delivery person, visibly shaken, explained that they aren't a delivery person. They just found the package on their doorstep with a threatening note attached. They handed Alex the note.

Back at the DEO, Alex and Kelly dusted off the note for fingerprints and started poring over surveillance footage with Winn to try and track down the sender. But the note yielded no clues, and the surveillance footage only showed the delivery person dropping off the package.

Frustrated, Alex and Kelly regrouped with the rest of the team to figure out their next move. Alex couldn't help but feel anxious about Kara's situation. She knew they were running out of time.

As Nia opened her eyes, she quickly sat up, taking a deep breath before looking around the room. Brainy rushed over to her, waiting for her to speak.

Nia shook her head, trying to shake off the grogginess that had enveloped her after her visit to Kara's dream world.

"I saw Kara's dream world," Nia announced, her voice still groggy. "It was like a musical."

"A musical?" Alex repeated incredulously.

"Yeah, Kara was singing and dancing to a scene and musical number from 'Funny Face'," Nia explained.

"Funny Face?" Brainy asked with confusion.

"Wait, 'Funny Face'? As in that old Audrey Hepburn movie?" Kelly asked, surprised.

Alex sighed, rubbing her forehead in frustration. "This doesn't help us find out who's threatening Kara."

Nia furrowed her brow, trying to recall more details from her dream visit. "Wait, there was one scene where Kara was at CatCo and Cat Grant started singing 'Think Pink' from 'Funny Face'," she paused, thinking through the implications of her statement, "Maybe that means the person threatening Kara might have something to do with CatCo?"

"Alright, then let's focus on that, we'll head to CatCo and interrogate the employees who knew where Kara lived." Alex said, standing up and gesturing for her team to follow her.

"Nia, tell Brainy and Lena more about what you saw in Kara's dream world. We need all the details we can get."

Nia nodded, her mind still fuzzy from the dream world, but she tried to remember as much as she could. As the team walked towards their next lead, Alex couldn't help but worry about Kara and the danger that she was in. But for now, all they could do was follow the clues and hope to find the person behind the threats.

Mon-El watched as Kara continued to fall deeper into the illusion world co-created by the silver Kryptonite. As Mon-El followed Cat Grant and her team into "Embryo Concepts" bookstore, they find Kara, now portraying Jo Stockton.

He realized that he needed to be careful about how he played his part, as he didn't want to do anything that could push Kara further into the dream world but he also needed to play the part of the photographer, Dick.

As they cleaned up the mess together, Cat/Maggie and her entourage left, Kara (as Jo) started to open up to Mon-El. She told him about her love for books and how she believed that they held the key to understanding the world around them.

Mon-El listened intently, finding himself fascinated by the way Kara portrays Jo. It's different. It clear the portrayal came from someone who admired Funny Face and Audrey Hepburn greatly.

She was glowing. She was happy, butterflies in her stomach happy, she was carefree, and she was absolutely beautiful. He hated the thought of bursting her bubble but he reminded himself that he had to, she was on the brink of death.

When Mon-El left the bookstore, continuing the movie script, he heard Kara singing 'How Long Has This Been Going On'?"

He headed back to the apartment to talk to Nia and told her how the movie plays out and roughly how much time they have until the end. He had realized he didn't control the narrative. For instance, while Nia and he were first figuring it out at CatCo, someone else was in the role of Dick.

Unfortunately, after interviewing several employees, Alex and the team came up empty-handed.

Alex sat at her desk in the DEO, her brows furrowed in frustration. She couldn't shake the feeling that they were missing something crucial, and it was eating away at her.

J'onn noticed Alex's agitation and walked over to her. "Alex, you need to take a break. You've been working non-stop for hours. You're exhausted."

"I can't just leave, J'onn," Alex replied, her voice strained. "I need to find out what's happened to Kara. I can't just sit at home and do nothing."

"Alex, you won't be able to give Kara your all if you're too tired," J'onn said sternly. "You need to take care of yourself first."

Alex shook her head stubbornly, but J'onn continued. "Listen, I know this is hard. But sometimes, the best thing we can do for someone we care about is to take a step back and recharge."

"J'onn's right Alex." Kelly sat down by Alex's side and took her hand.

"Alex, I understand how hard this is, but you need to take a break," Kelly said softly. "You've been working too hard and you need to rest. Kara needs you to be at your best."

Alex sighed, feeling tears prick at the corners of her eyes. "I know. But I just feel like I should be doing more. I should be able to find the answer."

Kelly squeezed her hand. "Alex, you're doing everything you can. Sometimes, we just have to be patient and trust that the answer will come. But in the meantime, you need to take care of yourself."

Alex nodded slowly, feeling a weight lift off her shoulders. She knew J'onn and Kelly were right. She needed to take a step back and recharge, so she could come back to the investigation with a clear mind and renewed energy.

"Okay," she said finally. "I'll take a break. But I won't be able to rest until we find out what's wrong with Kara."

Kelly smiled. "I know you won't. But for now, just focus on taking care of yourself and that little girl that's waiting for us at home. The rest will fall into place."
