Part Two - Reset - Chapter 8
With all hands on deck, the Superfriends managed to find and apprehend Elena. As they brought her into the DEO, J'onn interrogated her and warned her he was telepathic and could tell if she was lying.
It didn't take long for J'onn to uncover the truth. Elena was a indeed a follower of Coville's, and she had become obsessed with Kara after discovering her secret identity.
She became angry at Kara for revealing her secret to the world, and her obsession turned into fury when she saw Kara with Lance, who she considered to be a "Mon-El wannabe."
But as J'onn probed deeper, he discovered that her obsession with Kara was not just limited to her secret identity. Elena was also fixated on Kara's decisions, and she had become increasingly angry and frustrated with the way Kara had been living her life.
The Superfriends were shocked by Elena's twisted obsession, but they knew they had had stop her before she could do any more harm.
"Guys, I assure you Mon-El and I will make sure this doesn't happen when we reset time. But…we might need to recruit you J'onn." Winn looked over to J'onn who just nodded once.
As they all breathed a sigh of relief, Alex turned to the rest of the team. "I'm glad that's-"
"Mon-El?" They heard a weak whisper.
Alex pivoted on her heel as fast as humanly possible and sprinted to Kara's side. "Kara!"
Kara's eyes slowly fluttered open, and for a moment, everything was a blur. She groaned as she tried to sit up, but she was immediately met with a sharp pain in her side.
Her head spun, and she felt dizzy and disoriented. She tried to remember what had happened, but her thoughts were muddled.
"Kara!" Alex said again, her voice was the first thing Kara heard. "You're awake!"
Kara turned her head, and her eyes slowly focused on the faces around her. Mon-El was there, gently pulling off the wires off of his person. She felt a surge of relief wash over her. She thought she had only dreamt of him, as she was still processing the strange, jumbled memories.
"Mon-El," she whispered again, her eyes focused solely on him, her voice hoarse.
Mon-El looked at Alex, giving her a small smile, before going to Kara's side and taking her hand. "I'm right here," he said gently. "You're safe now."
Alex gently ushered everyone else out of the room to give them privacy, trying to ignore the pang in her heart as she was not the first person Kara called out for. She felt Kelly take her hand.
Kara reached up weakly to touch Mon-El's face to double check he's real.
"It's okay," he whispered, bending down to meet her touch. "You're going to be okay."
Kara looks into his gray eyes, getting lost in them. He's here. He's actually here. She thought.
She pulled him towards her, closing the distance between them and pressed her lips to his. It was a soft, gentle kiss, but it was filled with all the emotion, fear and confusion she was feeling.
"Oh…" Mon-El pulled away, "Um…" He cleared his throat. "Uh…Kara, I can't. N-not like this. N-not when you're…"
But Kara wasn't listening anymore, the reality of the situation crashed down on her once again. She remembered the bomb at her apartment that threw Nia over her kitchen counter.
"N-Nia.."
"She's ok Kara." Mon-El reassured her, "She is almost back on her feet." He gave her a small smile to ease her worries even more.
"I don't understand," she said, her voice trembling. "Who did this to me? Why did they want to hurt me?"
"She didn't like your decisions, Kara," Kelly said, walking into the room again. "She didn't like that you revealed your identity to the world, she had felt entitled to it. So when you revealed the secret she thought only you two shared, you broke her trust."
Kara frowned. She knew she had made some mistakes in the past, but she had always tried to do what was right. "I didn't realize how much that would blow up in my face," she said, shaking her head. "Literally."
"Well, it's a good thing we were able to catch her before she could do any more harm," Alex said, putting a hand on Kara's shoulder. "We'll made sure she didn't get the chance to hurt anyone."
She and the rest of the group decided not to tell Nia, Mon-El nor Kara, what happened to Lance. It would send Kara into a unnecessary tail spin as time would be reset anyways and he'd be resurrected.
Kara watched as the Superfriends filed out of the medbay to set up a celebration at Alex's house, leaving her and Mon-El alone a second time. She couldn't help but feel a little anxious as she turned to face him.
"Why are you here, Mon-El?" she asked softly, trying to keep her voice steady. "I mean, I'm grateful, but why did you come back?"
Mon-El looked at her, concerned. "I couldn't let you die, Kara," he said simply, but didn't elaborate further.
Kara felt a pang of sadness in her chest at his words. "How long are you staying?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Mon-El hesitated for a moment before answering. "We've been here for two days, so at the latest, tomorrow," he said, his voice soft and gentle.
Kara's heart sank at the thought of him leaving again, but she knew she couldn't keep him here forever. "I'm glad you're here, Mon-El," she said, trying to smile through the sadness.
"Even if it's just for a little while." She whispered.
Mon-El returned her smile, his eyes filled with warmth and affection. "I'm glad too, Kara. I'll always be here for you, no matter what."
As they sat in silence for a few moments, Kara couldn't help but think back to the time they spent together in her dream state. She missed him so much, and seeing him again only made her realize how much she truly cared for him.
"Mon-El," she said softly, breaking the silence. "I...I don't know how to say this... I just...I missed you so much."
Mon-El's expression softened, and he reached out to take her hand. "I missed you too, Kara," he said. More than you could ever know. Mon-El added a mental note.
Kara felt a warmth spread through her chest at his words, and she leaned into him, resting her head on his shoulder. They sat like that for a few moments, lost in their own thoughts.
Eventually, Kara pulled away and looked up at him, her expression serious. "Are you staying for the party?"
Mon-El chuckled at her jokingly serious tone. "I'm a Daxamite, Kara. You know I could never pass up a good party."
Kara laughed, feeling a wave of relief wash over her. It was good to have Mon-El by her side again, even if it was just for a little while longer. "Well, you better brush up on your dance moves because there's going to be a lot of dancing tonight," she said, winking at him.
"I think I can manage," Mon-El said with a smirk.
The apartment was decorated with streamers and balloons in shades of blue and red, with a few superhero-themed decorations here and there. The room was filled with laughter, chatter, and the sound of music playing in the background.
Everyone was relieved of having all this come to a successful end. They were finally able to relax and enjoy themselves, with Mon-El pouring them both another drink from the makeshift bar that Music Meister had set up.
As the night wore on and the party continued, Music Meister kept things lively and entertaining. He had everyone singing and dancing, and he was even performing some of his own songs. The other Superfriends were having a great time, but Mon-El and Kara were having the most fun of all.
They spent most of the night together, talking, laughing, and enjoying each other's company. As the alien drinks flowed, they became more and more relaxed, and their guards came down.
Kara couldn't stop laughing as Winn took the stage to sing a beautiful rendition of "Livin' on a Prayer," and Mon-El high-fived him as he walked offstage to everyone's applause.
Suddenly, Music Meister appeared on stage, holding a microphone.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I think it's time for a special performance," he announced, his eyes shining mischievously. "I want Kara and Mon-El to come up here and sing a duet!"
Kara's face turned red as she looked at Mon-El, who was already standing up, his hand outstretched towards her. "Come on, Kara, it'll be fun," he said with a grin.
Feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness, Kara took his hand and followed him to the stage. They chose a popular love song and as they began to sing, their voices blended together in a beautiful harmony. As they looked into each other's eyes, they both felt a spark that they couldn't explain.
The chemistry between them was clear to everyone in the room. They continued to sing, smiling and laughing as they went along. When they finished, the crowd erupted into applause, and Kara and Mon-El bowed before returning to their seats.
"When did you learn how to sing?" Kara asked pleasantly surprised. "You sucked a few years ago."
Mon-El chuckled at Kara's question. Then pointed to the Legion ring on his finger with a smirk.
Kara laughed and rolled her eyes playfully. "Right, because the Legion ring magically teaches you how to sing," she said sarcastically.
Mon-El grinned back at her. "Well, it does come with a lot of useful features," he said jokingly.
Kara chuckled and shook her head. "I can't believe we just sang a duet together," she said. "I never thought I'd see the day."
Mon-El shrugged. "I never thought I'd see the day where I'd be roaming around my ex-girlfriend's funny face infused dream state," he said teasingly.
Kara rolled her eyes again but smiled. "It's not like we had a choice in the matter," she pointed out.
"I know," Mon-El said, his tone turning serious. "But I'm glad we got to spend this time together. It's been nice, just the two of us."
Kara nodded in agreement. "Yeah, it has been..." she said softly, feeling a mix of emotions. She was happy to have Mon-El back in her life, but she also sad about their final goodbye.
