"Yay!"
An energetic group of children cheered as they came out of a movie theater. Their blood pumping after seeing iconic silver giants fight against an army of giant monsters.
"Ultraman Zero is the best!" One boy shouted.
"No Ultraman Mebius is." Another boy rounded on him. An argument quickly broke out.
Then a third voice butted itself into the conversation. "You are both stupid. Zero just got the spotlight because he's new, Dyna was still fighting through the monster army and was ready to take on Belial."
Ai happily walked past the arguing group of teenagers as parents tried to stop their children from joining in. While cinema staff came to stop the argument from escalating.
"What do you think of the movie Spica?"
An excited alien voice quickly answered her. "It was amazing! We normally get to see the fights of the Ultra brothers from recordings but the fight against Belial. I would need to be a member of the space garrison to see it."
"So, it's classified."
Ai found it funny that an entire race of super powered alien giants would keep fights like these classified. Would it not be better to show these at school to get more people to enroll in the military? She was sure any country on Earth would use videos to get more people to join their Earth defense force if they had one.
From the corner of her eye, Ai saw a counter selling Takoyaki. Feeling hungry she walked up to it and placed an order. It had been a good four weeks for Ai since she met her friend. Before their meeting. Going to the movies was something she just dreamed about. Now she had extra money to spend on food.
"Yes, we get to see some of the Space Garrison's exploits at school but they're mostly case studies for us to learn about other species. Not a lot of combat recordings are available for us."
Oh, that caught her attention. What kind of things did aliens learn in school? It must be more exciting than hers.
The man running the stand greeted her nervously and started on her order. He must have been new to this because his hands were shaking as he made a new batch.
"What kind of lessons?"
Was it how to shoot beams? Fly through space? How to make weapons?
"We do get to learn how to use our powers but what you are thinking about is advanced stuff Ai."
She let out an annoyed huff startling the Takoyaki cook to work faster. "It's not fair that you get to read my mind so well."
"Sorry, it's like reading an open book."
"Are you saying I'm an easy girl?"
Spica stopped talking to her for a moment. She took her food and started eating as her friend processed her words.
"No! it's just-"
Spica panicked as he tried to explain what he meant to make the hot food she was eating taste better. She was starting to understand why her mother liked doing something similar to gullible men.
"-do you want to know what we learn about?"
Projecting her smug aura at her friend, Ai just nodded. She looked at the large clock in the cinema and walked out. It was getting late so she started walking to the bus stop.
"Well in my year we were learning about how to interact with other civilizations."
"Oh! That sounds fun."
"It is but… I think you might get bored, Ai."
"Why?"
"The last class I was in. Was about how we should not needlessly interfere in the affairs of another planet. Especially if we are not part of organizations like the space garrison."
"But your entire race are powerful heroes."
Ai could not wrap her head around the idea. Wasn't it the hero's role to help everyone?
"Yes, that is exactly why. Because we are powerful, we have to be responsible."
Sensing her confusion Spica explained as best he could.
"I did not understand it well either Ai. We do have various organizations that help other planets develop and give aid to those in need. My teachers talked about how we can hamper their development."
Images and videos appeared in Ai's mind. They all depicted various aliens. Ai just focused on two of them.
One showed aliens that looked like red and blue Oni. They were large the size of… maybe the size of that tall springboard at that pool. It was 10 meters, Ai thought. The Oni were living in forests and caves hunting dinosaur like beasts using stone weapons the size of cars.
The other image was of a yellow skinned bald alien with a large head in gaudy looking ropes. Hold a gun like weapon to the sky. A laser shot out, clouds formed and rain came down.
"Our teacher said it's to allow civilizations to grow on their own so they will not be fully dependent on us."
"Sounds stupid."
There were many times Ai called out for help… no one came. Ai's face heated up as she felt… a hug from her alien friend. It was weird, he was inside of her. Spica did not have a physical body and yet she could feel him hugging her.
Ai sat down on a bus stop's bench, basking in the moment. Spica only resumed talking when the bus arrived and she found a seat.
"I thought it was stupid too, Ai. We had the technology to help others develop. I could not understand why we just waited for other races to get better and only interfered when they were about to make a big mistake. If we had helped them to begin with, they would not have made mistakes. But… after watching Mebius. I started to understand why."
"Humans normally get scared easily. It makes them do foolish things."
"Like how the jerk reporter exposed him. So all those people went to GUTS to make them surrender Mebius to Alien Empera."
That man reminded Ai a bit too much of one of her mother's friends. Had the same punch-able face too. The man tried to get her mother to… do things with him or he would go to child protective services.
In the end… it didn't matter. Ai ended up at the orphanage.
"Yes. After seeing that I think it would be great if humans can feel confident in their own ability to defend themselves. Either with technology or by obtaining power like my ancestors did."
Memories of the show appeared in her head. Mixed in with the memories were Spica's own from years ago. Memories of him using a crystal terminal like device. To see recordings of Earth and the battles that took place on it.
"In that show, I saw humans develop weapons and technology to fight alongside Mebius and the Ultra brothers. They did not need to fully rely on him. The members of GUTS aided him and the Ultra brothers' multiple times. Even when everyone around them wanted to sacrifice Mebius to Alien Empera. They stood firm and defeated him together"
She remembered how betrayed Spica felt at that part of the show. It reminded her of the time her preschool teacher told her how it was the parent's duty to watch over their children.
Ai got a fierce scolding and a slap when she repeated those words to her mother.
Then she smiled at the memory of Spica watching the series' finale. The sheer range of emotions she felt coming off him at the final battle, unlike for her who just saw Alien Empera as the usual last boss. The monster was real for Spica, an invader that nearly destroyed his planet in the past. The news of his defeat resulted in their planet celebrating for an entire day.
Spica heard news of the monster's defeat but seeing it was a life changing experience. Especially when he saw what power was used to destroy the tyrant. The power of the bonds between humans and the Ultras. They all combined to create a new form.
They had talked endlessly about what form they could obtain in the future.
"Now that I'm bonded with you. I can understand why they defended humanity so fiercely."
"Why?"
"You are worth protecting Ai."
None of them spoke anymore. Something dripped onto her lap and the girl realized that tears were leaking.
The nearby passengers ignored her. Some failed, Ai didn't care. She just gazed at the reflection of the window.
Instead of her face, a silver face stared back at her. White alien eyes met purple star shaped pupils.
She didn't want this moment to end.
Reality did not agree to her wish as an explosion on the street rocked the bus. With inhuman strength, she grabbed her strength and stayed in place. While others screamed and fell.
Spica's power welled up within her and the two synched up. Turning her head at the source of the explosion. Both Spica and her blinked in confusion as the bus came to a grinding halt.
"Ai, I thought you said there were no aliens on Earth."
"There weren't any."
Was Area 51 real too? Was Tokyo going to be invaded by kaiju next?
'Why is there a Pyronite on this planet?"
At the crossroad, there was an alien on fire. Humanoid in appearance and its entire body was made of some kind of magma with cracks on it. Its face looked like a mask from a Sentai series and its eyes were just holes on his rocky face.
It was pretty expressive despite being a rock as the alien was just projecting pure pain and anger. There was a device on its chest. A red diamond shining malevolently on a triangle shaped badge lodged on the walking volcano's chest.
Red lighting sparked out causing the alien more pain. Oversized hands were waving about as the alien hurled fire balls at nearby cars. Panicked, people were screaming, some filmed the scene while others did the sensible thing and ran away with their friends and family.
She spied a mother carrying her daughter, shielding her from some flaming debris that scarred the mother's back.
"Spica."
Spica gained more access to her body and she gained more of Spica's power. Soon the two found themselves in a void of stars.
Her friend towered over her. Looking down he reached his hand out to hers.
"Let's go."
(SCENE BREAK)
It had been a rough four weeks for Chief Itto. It all started when a portal opened up over the planet. Sending a pulse of cosmic and a mix of other energies the scientists could not properly analyze because the pulse destroyed so much sensitive equipment.
Equipment Itto had saved up for years and had to fight tooth and nail for funds for them. The only bright side of this incident was that Xyline. His second in command used the incident and convinced the higher ups to get more funding to replace all the equipment.
He hoped she enjoyed the present he gave her. It was nice…waiting in line for that shop in the UK. The pies were good and looking out into the wilderness was calming. He had a nice drink and chatted with locals. Ignoring the occasional fairy that stared at him in curiosity.
Then Itto remembered his other headache. Something was spat out of the portal. Sending his entire organization into panic because an unknown cosmic being was falling toward earth. While another was shot out of the Milky way Galaxy. He still had not gotten any confirmed reports about it. That was no longer Itto's problem.
What was his problem was that the cosmic being that landed on his planet was missing and the damage it's impact had caused. It was a nightmare calming down both the media and local government. Stopping people from entering the area. Some did and they had to work extra hours to delete their memories and to stop the growth of cancer cells. What part of the warning of a potentially radioactive comet landing on Earth did people not understand?
Did they think they would gain superpowers? Well maybe… given his line of work. Similar incidents have resulted in people gaining powers one way or the other. Always ends up with them either going mad with power or they knock some sense into them. So, they either sign up, go to the rig or do something productive with their power that does not involve going full cartoon villain.
Then some countries which will not be named for their stress levels got their panties in a twist because the pulse knocked out satellites. Sending some billion dollar rockets off course. So, some idiots thought it was enough reason to start World War 3.
Itto very much wanted to just let the war happen so he could just take them all in a fight. But no… he was the chief of his division and he swore an oath to protect. No matter how much his instincts were telling him to just grab his club and smash in those pencil pushing snakes.
It took weeks to talk the idiots down and had to call in favors. Favors from people that looked into people's minds and someone that can see the future to tip toe across that minefield.
His only closure was that no one was throwing around the word, Tokustar. That… that would send people into a panic. Those giants were friendly enough and protected several galaxies from equally sized or larger threats. Some had even joined them or formed their own groups. The only bad Tokusatrs Itto had fought were during the civil war on planet Vordt.
Itto felt bad for even fighting them. They had the minds of infants and were just fighting on instinct. Itto wished he could have had another swing at that mad crab that created that mind control mutated clone army.
He was getting carried away again. He just needed to focus on his current problems. Like the fact that a Tokustar was here, which means they will eventually get kaiju attacks in Japan of all places. Then they cannot properly cast barriers because-
"Here's your coffee Sir."
A nervous looking raven-haired woman offered him his order.
"Sorry for that-" Itto looked at her name tag. "-Miss Aya." Huh must be a new girl.
Letting out a loud sigh to calm himself and he ran a hand through graying black hair.
"I've had a couple of stressful weeks at work." He could see and feel the other nervous patrons in his favorite café visibly relax.
"It's understandable. I hope things get better for you sir."
Taking the drink he gave the nervous girl a smile. "Hopefully."
Leaving the store, Itto took a sip and for 5 minutes, the man knew peace and quiet as he watched the day to day life of civilians going about their day.
Then his phone rang. His private one.
"We have a situation chief." A raspy voice came through. Anger welled up within Itto but he calmed himself down and answered his subordinate.
"Is it related to your assignment?"
"No."
"Then give me a reason to not give you cleaning duties for a month."
"We found a new Gomoran mind control tech called a TX 356. Along with a half pyronite child asking for help because. Some toad slave merchants were extorting his father."
How the hell the frog faces got people in his sector of the galaxy was a mystery. One he was going to solve by dragging out all the memories from their husks.
"Were you able to lay down a barrier and why the hell are you calling me on my private number and not Squad 503."
"Yes we were and I called you because the suspects sent out a psionic attack that took out mine and Claude's badges and the only Earth contact number I remembered was yours."
Blaster fire could be heard over the phone. Pained screams from people he did not recognize made him crush his empty cup.
"Has the child been taken to safety?"
Itto was in his car, dialing up his subordinates and organizing a counterattack within a minute.
"Axl took her to HQ while we held them off."
Engine running, the car's AI took over driving towards his subordinate's destination.
"I'm en route to your location, I've notified the nearest squad. Squad 204, they will be there soon."
"Bird brain's coming? Chief th-"
An explosion rang out at the intersection. The car's AI dodged debris and parked so as to not hit fleeing civilians.
The source of the explosion. A rampaging Pyronite with probably faulty enslavement tech made by the frog bastards. They have been cutting corners.
Good, that means he just needs to blow it up.
"Who's the pyronite that was being extorted?" The car's AI scanned the pyronite, projecting his ID. Itto took one look at it as he pulled out a spiked club the size of a hammer.
Getting out of his car, Itto started chanting. Powering power into his weapon, making barriers were still possible but until they got rid of all that unknown energy. Japan was going to be a tough place to monitor.
"Names Edward. Pretty young boss. Got hitched really young to a local so there might not be much damage. He has not gone through Pyronite puberty yet."
Just as his barrier was about to expand out another explosion occurred.
Instead of a fiery explosion that would have added more victims. It was a flash of light from a bus. A familiar energy his organization has been tracking for weeks.
"Shuwatch!"
A silver body with purple and red markings shot out. The pavement cracked as the new target's fist impacted against a purple barrier deployed by Edward's TX 356.
Itto's spell was completed and a dimensional barrier was deployed. The civilians were ejected out and all that remained in was him and the two aliens in a pocket dimension.
The silver being who looked exactly like the popular interpretation of a normal Tokustar looked at Itto who stood in place. Confusion clear on its purple eyes with a unique star pattern in them at the sudden dimensional displacement. All it received was a blank stare.
Dots were connecting in his head. A lot of far-fetched dots that were a stretch. Even in the world he lived in, weeks of stress were mounting on Itto's mind. So, the older man sighed and took a leap of faith.
Taking out his badge, the commander of Plumbers in charge of this planet spoke with authority.
"My name is Itto Aragami. I am the commander of this Earth's version of the Space defense force. Unknown Ultraman, who came through the space rift four weeks ago. Please kindly assist me in apprehending this enslaved alien and afterwards come with me to my command center."
