Yoshi stood by the door to the classroom, pretending to listen as Hana was saying something about expressionism or realism, some ism thing about painting. Though the girl wasn't in their class she'd occasionally stop by to chat, making friends with them after the last school year. They were chatting until it was time for club activities.
In reality she was watching Nagatoro mope. And unlike everyone else it wasn't due to the summer heat. It was mid July so they still had a bit of time until summer break. Senpai was at his university in Tokyo, which was only an hour away by train. So he'd been taking the train back and forth since school had started.
Recently Naoto had started taking part in a project that was volunteering at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum. He had been helping out so much that Hayase had told him to focus on his work and getting proper rest, so he was staying in Tokyo. After all a bean pole like him couldn't have that much spare energy to waste taking the train back and forth all the time. At least that's how she'd played it off to him.
Though she had been the one to suggest it, the last week without him had slowly seen her become exceptionally moody. The only time she perked up was when she was on the phone with 'Coach'. A nickname the girls had given Senpai after his support for Nagatoro had helped her to defeat Orihara. Afterwards Naoto had confessed, and they'd been together ever since, officially at least. Everyone already knew he was her guy.
Yoshi turned to Hana, interrupting her monologue. "I wonder how much worse she'll get, you'd think her hamster died."
Sunomiya looked to where Yoshi was focused, noticing Nagatoro's state. Her expression did not change, after a second she responded.
"I believe it must be a bittersweet feeling she is experiencing. Her and Senpai are together now, but the distance means that she is forced to wonder about what might happen in the future. Nothing is guaranteed in life, and people can change and grow apart. Love is a treasure that must be protected and fostered. For if you do not, then before you know it—."
Before Hana could continue, they heard a little squeal of delight from Nagatoro. She had seen something outside the window and became animated. Collecting her things and bolting past the girls, blurting out as she went.
"Can't make club shaved ice bye!"
The two girls eyes went wide at how absolutely joyful the morose little feline girl had become. They both walked to the window, and saw senpai standing outside. His hair was combed, something he'd been doing since his second week at school, trying to look more mature he'd said.
The girls giggled as Nagatoro sprinted outside and directly over to him, wasting no time in mussing his hair until it had it's regular ruffled teddy bear look. She latched onto his arm, saying something the girls couldn't hear and dragging him away from the school.
Suddenly Naoto stopped, causing Hayase to spin back towards him. Like a fish on a hook when the fisherman pulls the line taut she was yanked back to him. Once she was looking back at him he leaned in and gave her a kiss on the cheek, smiling wide before he took off running toward where she had previously been pulling him.
Even from inside the girls could see her irises turn into dinner plates, and her cheeks taking on the hue of a sunburn. Suddenly Noodletoro took off after him, screaming and flailing her arms back and forth. Sonomiya turned to Yoshi and simply said.
"It is also possible she might just have been craving shaved ice."
