Pete and Sharon McGee, proud parents of a 13-year-old girl named Molly and 11-year-old boy named Darryl, were waiting at the kitchen table for their daughter to come home from school.
When she finally came home, she had tears in her eyes. Her parents sensed something was wrong.
"Molly, what happened at school today?" Pete asked.
"It was the worst thing to happen to me ever since I came here. Another kid pushed me to the floor and called me a 'gook'," Molly said.
"Oh dear, how could someone do something as hateful as that?" Sharon asked.
"All I know is that he knew I had Thai ancestry and wanted to bully me for it. What kind of world is this where you can get bullied for your skin color?" Molly said.
"Molly, these things are going to happen. You just got to learn to be the bigger person and not let it get you down. Relay what happened to the school principal tomorrow and ensure that you get justice for what happened," Pete said.
"Did I just hear that Molly got called a racial slur? Nobody messes with my family and gets away with it," Scratch said.
"Scratch, whatever you had in mind, don't do it, this is my problem for me to deal with," Molly said.
"Aw come on, let me show him a piece of my mind, he must be scared of ghosts," Scratch said.
"Molly's right, you probably will make things worse," Sharon said.
"Fine, just let me know how the talk with the principal goes," Scratch said.
The following day, Molly reported what happened to her to the principal. The kid who pushed her to the floor and called her that racial slur was suspended for two weeks.
