This is the first prompt for this week's prompt from the forum of Wingfeather Saga; Quill and Ink: Featherheads Unite. This story will include how Artham, Esben, and Arundelle met! I hope you enjoy, thanks for reading!
PROMPT: Start your story with the line "You wanna do something fun?"
"You wanna do something fun?"
8 year old Arundelle looked up from her book. She sat under a tree on a bright Saturday morning. She saw a young boy about her age hanging upside down on a tree branch, looking at her.
"Who are you?" she asked.
The boy grinned, one of his front teeth gone. His hair waved around him as he hung upside down.
"My name is Esben, and I'm six years old. Aren't you the daughter of that grumpy old maid who works in my castle?"
"Your castle?"
"Yep. If you've forgetting, I am the heir to the throne of Anneira. But that doesn't matter right now. I've only barely gotten out of sight from Artham. Now we can goof off without him being a party pooper and stopping us!"
Arundelle raised an eyebrow.
"Um, and why me?" she asked.
"Becaaaaaaaause," the young prince drawled out. "You are the only kid here who I can see on the castle grounds. So, come on!"
Esben wiggled out from the branch and Arundelle watched him shimmy down the trunk of the tree.
He plopped down on the ground and pretended to dust himself off.
Arundelle closed her book and suppressed a smile. She had been getting bored lately... why not have some fun?
"Alright," she sighed, getting up. "What are we doing?"
Esben offered her a toothy grin. "We can prank Artham!"
Arundelle shrugged. "I don't know who that is, but okay."
Esben trotted down the hill that the tree was on, and he started reciting his plan. Arundelle followed him, hoping she wouldn't get in too much trouble.
"Esben! I am going to get in so much trouble! GET BACK HERE!" whined a voice.
Arundelle struggled to keep in a giggle as she hid behind a bush, spying on Artham. She had the plan memorized in her head, and she had to admit that Esben's plan was pretty funny.
"Esbeeeeeeeeen!!"
Arundelle looked toward the tree about 30 feet away from her. She was waiting for the signal.
She clutched the pebble in her hand, and went over the plan one more time while she waited. Then, suddenly, A shower of leaves fell down from the tree. and it started to shake. That was the signal!
Arundelle gave a shout and threw the pebble forward, launching it past the bush and right by Artham.
Artham jumped and then bent down to inspect the rock thrown at him.
All that while, Arundelle snuck behind them, then all at once, she threw a back over his head!
"GAH!" A muffled shout came from Artham.
"Be still," Arundelle said in a growly voice. Like Esben said, Artham did exactly the opposite. He thrashed and wiggled, and Arundelle found it hard to keep him still.
Then, Esben came running out from behind the tree, dressed in a black cloak and an evil smile. He ran to Arundelle and helped her drag Artham back into the woods.
"Lemmegoo!!" a muffled voice said from the sack.
Arundelle snorted, struggling to keep in a laugh.
Finally, Esben and Arundelle reached the tree and plopped Artham down, tying his hands.
"LEMMEGOO!! I AM ARFAM WINNEADER-" Arundelle pulled the sack from his head.
She pretended to laugh evily.
"Hahaha, you have been kidnapped by Pirates!! Arr! And that's not it. We have your brother and if you won't tell us the most embarrassing secret about you, we will...uh...we will suffocate him with totatoes!!"
Artham's eyes widened. "Wh-what?!"
"Haha! Yep, we got him, and you have to tell us your most embarrassing secret," Esben said, stepping out of the shadows, his hood pulled over his eyes.
Artham wiggled his hands, and they came free from the sloppy knot.
"I won't have to tell you any secrets! I'm free now!" he said, jumping up and getting into a fighting stance that was impressive for an 8 year old.
"N-no!" said Arundelle in a growly voice. "We, uh...will tell our other pirate guys to suffocate him now if you move! Now tell us!"
Artham's jaw dropped. "Whaat?! Come on!"
Esben laughed evily. "Tell us now! You have 18 seconds."
Artham winced and sighed. "Okay...I once wet the bed and blamed it on my brother Esben pouring water on my bed...and he got in trouble for it."
Esben threw off his hood, and doubled over laughing when Artham gasped and his eyes widened.
Arundelle also fell over laughing. The look on Artham's face was priceless!
"WHAT?! ESBEEEEN!!!" cried Artham, throwing himself at Esben and wrestling him to the ground.
Esben was laughing so hard that tears rolled down his face.
"You...you..you- you bed wetter!! Momma is gonna be so mad at you for lying!!" he gasped between chortles. Arundelle rolled around on the ground, holding her stomach.
Artham's jaw dropped so low that it seemed to hit the ground. Then he turned to Arundelle.
"Hey! What...you! Why would you help my mischievous brother?!"
Arundelle smiled. "Because...I...was bored!"
Artham groaned.
"I am in so much trouble," he whined.
Arundelle and Esben shared a look, then burst into more laughter.
Arundelle was glad. New friends...and a very, very fun day!
