AN: Hello everyone, first of all thank you for reading my fanfic. This is my first attempt at writing and tbh I have no clue if I'm going to be able to keep up/be able to finish writing the story. I do hope so. I do not know what my upload schedule is going to be like, so have fun trying to figure it out. Please leave a comment with what you think of the chapter/story, I could really use them. Oh and before you ask, no, I do not own Harry Potter or any other characters that you will recognize from Harry Potter. I am also not making anymore from this story. Happy readings :)
December 31st 1999:
Most people would celebrate New Years Eve with their loved ones. You know, a big party, loads of drinks and laughter, a big countdown and screaming happy new years when the clock strikes twelve, if you're lucky you even get a kiss from your loved one. But it's safe to say that Harry Potter was never 'most people.'
If one were to look into the life of Harry on this particular New Years Eve, they would be treated with the sight of a half drunken man (barely) sitting in a dark and almost clean kitchen who is trying to drink his sorrows away. The last few months haven't been kind to Harry, heck when has life ever been kind to Harry? I mean his childhood past the year of one is complete and utterly garbage, his school years might be considered better, if one would ignore the multiple near fatal incidents per year, the ridiculing of the wizarding population and of course the mass murdering mad man after his blood (both literally and figuratively speaking). But Harry had hope. Hope that after said mad man was dead and gone he would finally be free. Free to live his life like he wanted. So he did what any young man tries to do, and followed his dreams. Right after the battle of Hogwarts was over he and his best friend Ron join up with the aurors, he got back together with his girlfriend Ginny, and generally tried to live the life he feels he deserved.
But it's not meant to be, and everything that could go wrong goes wrong, or at least that's what it feels like. His other best friend Hermione isn't happy with Harry and Ron's decision of not finishing school, and they grow apart because of it.
Ginny and Harry, it turns out, are not very compatible in a relationship. Where Ginny wants to be the center of attention as much as possible and as often as possible, Harry does not. At all. Which leads to fights and hurt feelings, as relationships often do. Eventually after a particularly brutal fight in the middle of Diagon Alley, which Harry does not want to think about, they broke up.
The problem with breaking up with the sister of your best friend, is that said friend has an opinion about it. If you also work every day with said friend and he apparently can't accept that you won't get back with his sister, well that leads to even more problems. Especially at work. Work for the Aurors which you have been dreaming of for years. Work that you find completely and utterly awful. Turns out, being a high profile low rank Auror sucks. All there is to it is lectures almost as boring as Binns', more paperwork than there are books in the Hogwarts Library and being shown off as a show pony because he is Harry Potter, vanquisher of Voldemort, or He Who Must Not Be Named because the general British wizarding populace is still a bunch of scared little children. So after trying for a year and a half he quits.
So there Harry is. A year and a half after Voldemorts defeat with no friends, no love life, no job and worst of all, no more fire whiskey.
Happy New Years Harry Potter.
