Thank you for all the kind reviews! I'm so glad to see that people are enjoying my story's. Warning: This chapter contains a lot of Janner and Sara fluff because I was feeling like bringing people some joy to their day XD. Enjoy!!
PROMPT: Set your story in the woods or a campsite.
"I forgot the bug spray!"
"Kalmar Wingfeather, if you wish to keep breathing, GO BUY SOME!!!"
"My money?!"
"Yes, your money! You're the one who forgot it after swearing you wouldn't!"
"Awwwwww, okaaaaay, Janner."
A disappointed and half packed Kalmar set out to go find the town to buy the bug spray he had so mistakenly forgotten.
Nia laughed and shook her head. "Sometimes I wonder if he has short term memory loss."
"Not short term. Not long term. Just memory loss," Janner muttered.
"Hey, at least he didn't forget the marshmallows," Sara offered.
"KALMAR FORGOT THE MARSHMALLOOOOOOOWSSSSS!!!" yelled an irritated Artham from across the campsite.
The entire family groaned.
"Why did we depend in Kal to bring the stuff again?" Leeli said, having a bit of trouble hobbling along with her crutch being caught on the undergrowth of the forest.
Janner shrugged, helping her along.
It was almost midnight. Nia was asleep in the tent, Kalmar was snoring in the hammock, and Artham was tending to the fire. Janner wiped the evidence of s'mores off of his cheeks, licking the gooey treat off of his fingers.
"What a night," he said to Sara, who was sitting beside him with a blanket wrapped around her shoulders.
"Yeah," she replied quietly. "This is my first time camping."
"Oh, nice. Does that mean you have never taken a midnight walk through the forest?" Janner asked.
Sara shook her head, a smile forming on her face.
Janner grinned. "There's a first for everything."
He got up and helped Sara get the blanket off of her and helped her up.
"We are going for a walk now?" she asked.
"Well, it is a midnight walk," Janner said. "Unless you don't want to," he added quickly.
Sara smiled and nodded. "Of course I do."
The couple walked away from the campsite and into the dark woods, following a path that was set to reach a small pond.
They walked in silence, enjoying the high time sounds of owls hooting, crickets, night birds, splashes, the rustling grass and leaves...
"Janner," Sara whispered, breaking Janner out of his trance. "When I saw you the first time at the Dragon Day festival, I knew I was immediately in love."
Janner smiled. "So was I. Kalmar wouldn't stop teasing me mercilessly about it."
Sara chuckled. "Your brother is a troublemaker."
Janner nodded, laughing as well. The two walked for a bit in silence, enjoying their moment together. Then they reached the end of the path, and a shimmering moon lit up the glassy water. Small lily pads floated by, and dragon flies zipped around.
Both sat on a log, watching the sparkling water shimmer with moonlight.
"I think I like this first midnight walk," Sara commented. Janner blushed.
"Yeah, me too."
And the couple enjoyed the beautiful night together.
