A/N Haha this is just another weird plotbunny that got out of hand fast.
If you like this mess be sure to let me know cause I'm thinking of expanding on it in the form of loose possibly sort of unrelated snippets here and there.
Hope you enjoy this weird read
Sakura has always had a bleeding heart, quite ironically given her species but regardless. Although her mom had warned her about getting close to certain people, she couldn't help herself when people got hurt.
Little toddler Sakura ran over when she noticed two of her classmates get into a scuffle, only to result in multiple injuries. She kneeled down next to the black-haired boy, whose arm had started bleeding quite profusely. Panic overran her where she made a brash decision, taking both of their uninjured hands and dragging them to the back of the school out of sight.
"Please don't pull your arm away ok? I'll be making it better now!" She said towards the black-haired child. She wiped away as much of the blood with her handkerchief as she could, before piercing her own wrist with her tiny fangs. She let a drop of her own blood fall onto the young boys wound, before it slowly started fizzling closed. Both boys watched in silence, enraptured as the wound healed fully right before their eyes.
She shushed their exclamations before whispering "I'm a dhampir, don't tell anyone ok!"
Both boys looked up at her enamoured, nodding furiously. As she started gently scolding them for fighting too hard, she took note of the clan emblems stitched onto their clothing.
One was the Uzumaki spiral, a clan of important political figures, the other an Uchiha fan, the biggest clan of monster hunters known to mankind.
She stopped berating them when she realised "P-Please don't kill me!" she exclaimed with panic, jumping back from the boy.
The boys looked at her in confusion before one spoke up "Why should we? You helped us, didn't you?"
She looked at the boy she came to know as Naruto, his blinding smile and thumbs up startling her. She whipped her head around to the boy she came to know as Sasuke, light pink dusting his cheek as he looked off to the side in a pout, mumbling something under his breath.
Sakura should've known better than to befriend these two children from very prominent families and share her secret nonetheless! But she had trusted them, and they trusted her back. She protected them and they protected her.
So why in the name of god, was Uchiha Shisui standing on her doorstep.
Well Sakura knew why, but she just wanted to desperately forget that ever happened.
A few hours ago, in the early morning after her shift at the hospital had ended, she was on her grocery run like she normally would be. Her peaceful and calm routine was broken however by a shout of "Saku-chan!"
Sakura turned around and forced a smile onto her face, feeling particularly groggy and not in the mood to deal with the eccentric Uchiha. "Shisui, do what do I owe you the pleasure?" she calmly asked, continuing the walk back to her car when he caught up to her.
Shisui flashed a charming grin at her "Just wanting to catch up with my favourite little hellion, how have you been?" She rolled her eyes at the nickname.
"You know how it is, the hospital is still understaffed, and the new recruits aren't catching up too well." She sighed, waving her hand around at the statement, hoping he would leave her alone soon enough.
Sadly for her though, Shisui kept the conversation going "I know what you mean, the new recruits assigned to my team are rough," he told her, dramatically laying his hand on his forehead "whatever will I do?"
Sakura went to chuckle when they reached a split in the road, and they both collided with each other as they tried to walk opposite ways. Shisui managed to right himself, but Sakura ended up fumbling and dropping her grocery bag to the ground, spilling the contents.
She laughed awkwardly before bending down to start picking up said groceries. Shisui quickly followed apologising profusely and helping her out.
Sakura didn't realise the fuck up until it was already too late and Shisui was holding one of her few blood related items, the black pudding to be exact. Shisui was slowly examing the item in his hand, before doing the same with the remaining items she was snatching up off the floor with haste.
She quickly snatched the package out of his hands, but he was already looking at her scrutinizingly "I didn't know you liked that kind of stuff..." he trailed off, gaze intense. Sakura's laughter started to sound really forced "Well you know- uhm- you lose some you need some!" she cringed at the awkward delivery of a horrible period joke that would probably fly over his head.
"Well I gotta go now, see you later!" Sakura's suspiciously higher voice called out before fast walking away to where her car was parked.
Which brings us back to the present.
Sakura was having a self-care moment, wearing a fancy lingerie set she would never normally wear. A fluffy yet sheer robe clad her form, making her revel in the luxury fabrics used. She was about to start painting her nails after a soothing bath, but was interrupted by the doorbell ringing.
She wasn't expecting any company, so she feared the worst. "I swear to god if this is Sasuke or Naruto ruining my me-time again I will swear to god-!" she yelled out in advance as she strode towards the big front doors of her mansion. She slammed one of the doors open, ready to give the aforementioned fools an ear-full but stopped dead in her tracks.
Shisui looked at her, amused as all hell as made obvious by the massive smirk on his face, and strode forwards so he was leaning against the doorframe "Not how I was expecting to be greeted, but a welcome sight nonetheless." he smoothly intoned. Sakura questioned what he was talking about exactly but realised all too soon as his eyes unabashedly raked over her figure.
Sakura wanted to slam the door right in his face again, but he quickly strode in further, whistling as he took in the place. She quickly grabbed a coat off the coatrack, as she turned to face her unwelcome visitor.
"Damn, Saku-chan, didn't know you lived in such luxury." Shisui admired as he came to stand in the middle of the entrance hall. Sakura scoffed before opening the door to the main living room, revealing that the mansion was in fact, a mess. Shisui paused his admiring to take in the rundown room, whistling for an entirely different reason "Oh, sorry, meant to say didn't know you lived in such squalor."
Whilst Sakura had inherited the massive mansion from her parents, they had left her no money to fix up the rundown place. It was a slow process to make-over the whole mansion as she had a pitiful amount of money because of her student loans. So far she had only fixed up the most important areas in her opinion, being the main bedroom, the ensuite to said bedroom, the kitchen, and dining room. The entrance had been her most recent fixer upper with the help of Sasuke and Naruto.
Closing the door to the living room again, Sakura crossed her arms and faced Shisui "So what can I do for you today, Shisui?" she snarkily asked, even though she knew damn well why he was here.
Shisui's smirk grew even further as he slowly approached her "Soooo... You're a vampire huh?" he asked cheekily, leaning his face down to the same level as hers. Sakura sighed, pinching her nose "No, I'm not." before Shisui could protest she continued "I'm a dhampir."
A gleeful sparkle shone in his eyes as he leaned back again, laughter filling the room "No way! Not only are you a supernatural being, you're also one of the rarest? This is gold!" he wiped a tear away from his eyes before continuing "That would explain why your canines are just that tad bit sharper than others, and why Sasu-chan and Naruto always healed so quickly!" he paused before adding on "And why you have such monstrous strength!"
As Shisui continued laughing, to the point he was almost rolling on the ground, Sakura had to ask one thing "Shouldn't you, you know, report me to your family's organisation?"
Shisui looked up from his slouch, grinning "Now where would the fun be in that? Besides you obviously mean no harm, you would've killed off Sasu-chan and Naruto already even if they weren't so annoying." he explained.
Sakura quirked a brow "Really now? Isn't your family all against hunting the supernatural?" she snarked back.
Shisui had fully straightened by this point and regarded her with a slightly more serious edge now "No, we hunt monsters. Not all of the supernatural are monsters, nor are all the monsters supernatural." he simply explained. It made Sakura pause and utter out a small "Oh."
A, to Sakura, awkward silence filled the room as she pulled her winter coat a bit tighter around her still very much revealing form. She glanced back at Shisui who was still standing there with no plan to leave.
"So what was the point of your visit exactly?" Sakura asked him, partly curious, partly annoyed "If you already knew what I was?"
"Well technically I was wrong, but I came to just confirm that sneaking suspicion." Shisui simply told her. Sakura raised her nose in the air, looking down (who was she kidding, up) at him "Well you can leave now."
Shisui merely looked back at her amused. Sakura sighed before forcibly pushing him out the door "And don't you dare tell anyone about this!" she yelled as she managed to push him through the doorway. Before he could turn around and snark back something she definitely wouldn't be pleased by, she closed the door on him
Sighing, Sakura went back to her room, hoping that painting her nails would help her sour mood out.
The next day, a Sunday to be exact, her doorbell rang again.
Sakura really didn't want to open the door, but forced herself to trudge down the stairs, this time luckily dressed in somewhat more modest pyjamas. She had a sneaking suspicion that whoever was behind the door deserved a severe beating up.
Her suspicions proved right as she was greeted with the always gleeful Shisui, now accompanied by his closest friend and cousin, Itachi. She exhaled loudly through her nose as Shisui shoved himself inside again.
"Why are you here now?!" she bluntly demanded. Shisui merely smiled brightly before dutifully informing her "Well, Itachi knows now."
Before anyone had a chance to properly react, Sakura sucker punched Shisui right back out the door, causing him to tumble down the small hill the mansion was situated on. Breathing heavily, she turned around to the ever so stoic Itachi, quirking a brow as to ask what he wanted from her.
He sighed softly "I only came along to try and keep Shisui in check, but it seems that wasn't needed." he gestured towards the still tumbling man outside.
Snorting, Sakura simply responded "I hope you know by now that I know how to defend myself." Itachi nodded in agreement, before making his way to the front door again.
He turned around again just before leaving the premises "Oh, I already knew of your status. Sasuke told me when he first found out." Itachi simply told her before closing the door behind him politely.
Sakura's scream of rage didn't go unnoticed.
Another day, another nuisance.
Sakura didn't even pretend to be polite anymore as she slammed open the door, before her eyes zeroed in on one of the three men present.
"Sakura, I can explain-" Sasuke could in fact not explain before he got sucker punched right down the hill, much like Shisui the day before. Said man was cackling in glee as he saw his baby cousin tumble down the hill, failing to stop his descent.
She was about to slam the door closed again, but Shisui quickly shoved his way inside, again. Itachi sighed softly before following his cousin inside. Sakura crossed her arms, wholly unimpressed "To what do I owe the great pleasure of being visited again today." she simply snarked at them.
"Wellllll..." Shisui trailed off, rubbing the back of his head awkwardly. Sakura's gaze darkened, already having a suspicion what had happened before Sasuke came running in through the still open front door, looking worse for wear "He ratted you out to the clan!" he exclaimed, angrily looking at his cousin.
Shisui, sensing the incoming punch, dodged, causing Sakura's fist to collide with the wall. Small cracks appeared as some of the recently applied dry wall fell away. Sakura screamed in frustration "That just got done!"
Chuckling awkwardly, Shisui tried to defend himself "Well you see, there's this one pretty scary clan member-" he dodged another punch before continuing "and he can read me so well it's scary!" another punch dodged "So he sussed out I discovered some secret and-" this time a missed grapple "I don't know what he's going to do now!" Shisui yelled out as he dodged a roundhouse kick.
Sasuke face palmed, before piping up "Obito is going to confront Sakura directly of course, you idiot."
"That I am."
The room stilled as the aforementioned Uchiha stepped through the still open door (really, someone should close that, think of the heating bills-), menacingly coming to a stop in the middle of the mess that was going on.
Sakura lowered her leg from her second attempt at kicking Shisui through the room, awkwardly looking at the new Uchiha that had entered the room.
Sakura had met Obito a few times here and there, mainly when accompanied by his wife Rin, and he had always seemed to keep a close eye on Sakura. Distrust always leaked off him, before Rin would elbow him in the side so he would stop his staring.
The same stare was regarding her now, but Sakura quite frankly couldn't care right now, she was already in a foul mood.
"Great, what now?" Sakura asked sarcastically, throwing her hands up in the air. Obito's eyes narrowed "I would watch your tone if I were you, vampire." he hissed. Sakura exhaled loudly before correcting him "Dhampir!"
That made the man pause briefly, regarding her for a beat before approaching her. He came to stop in front of her, gaze still narrowed.
"If you ever even think about hurting any of my family members, or anyone else for that matter, I won't hesitate to put you down." Obito lowly growled, eyes seemingly flashing red. Sakura bristled before pointing her finger into his chest "If you even think you have a chance of taking me out, you're sorely mistaken." she hissed back. They stared into each other's narrowed eyes, daring the other to make a move.
Their silent staring match got broken by Itachi's back suddenly being in front of Sakura's face. She backed up to put some distance between them, putting her next to Shisui as Sasuke walked up to her other side. She swore she saw their eyes flash red as well.
"I think it would be unwise to continue here, Obito." Itachi intoned, calmly looking at Obito "You wouldn't want the family heads to find out, do you?" Itachi questioned. Obito narrowed his eyes even further "What if I do?" Itachi's own eyes narrowed at that before responding "Are you sure you want to go there, Obito?"
Obito backed up, eyes flickering over to Sakura "I think I will." Sakura merely glared back as he took his leave through the front door.
Sighing heavily, Sakura rubbed her temples as the door finally closed. She all but collapsed onto the settee bordering one of the walls in her entryway. Her head fell into her hands as she tried to process what exactly had all happened in such a short span of time.
Sasuke came to kneel in front of her, looking oddly apologetic "I'm sure my uncles won't do anything bad to you." he softly whispered.
From his corner of the room, Shisui snorted "Yeah right, have you ever met Madara? Izuna I can understand but Madara? Hell no!" Shisui chortled, falling still when he realised the room was collectively glaring at him "Not being helpful at all, Shisui!" Sasuke nearly yelled at him. Shisui held up his hand defensively "Just being honest Sasu-chan." Sasuke bristled at the nickname but focused back on the very exhausted looking Sakura.
"Look, we'll be here tomorrow as well to back you up, no harm will befall you." Sasuke's oddly uncharacteristic soft side told her. Sakura chuckled softly "Imagine if Naruto hears about all this." Sasuke shook his head fondly before replying "Yeah, let's wait on that until it's all over and done with."
Itachi then decided to clear his throat, breaking the soft moment happening "I think it's time we left now. We've created enough of a mess as is." he pointedly looked at Shisui with that statement. At least Shisui had the manners to look apologetic.
As the gaggle of Uchiha left her alone again, Sakura stood up and headed to her kitchen, in sore need of an ice cream break. She had a lot to think about concerning the upcoming day.
Sakura made sure her house was tidied up as much as possible, covering the crack in the entryway with a tasteful painting. She herself clad herself in her fanciest clothes available, namely a wine-red trumpet dress gifted to her by Ino, so as to impress. It complimented her very well, count on Ino to make the right fashion choices.
The clack of her heels was audible on the hardwood flooring as she approached the door after hearing a surprisingly polite set of knocks. Opening the door, her guarded eyes were met with the two men she had only seen briefly once in her life.
Uchiha Madara and Izuna were two imposing figures, oozing confidence and wordlessly commanding the utmost respect. The only time she had ever caught a glimpse of the two was when they were entering Sasuke's household just as she was leaving. No words were spoken, only brief glances were shared. Sasuke was all too eager to herd her and Naruto off of the premises, stating it was for Sakura's safety.
It seemed they had dressed up in the unspoken dress code as well, looking particularly dashing if she had to say so herself. Izuna stepped forward first, a kind smile on his face, disarming Sakura's defences slightly.
"Haruno Sakura, right?" Izuna extended his hand out for a friendly handshake "I'm Uchiha Izuna." Sakura extended her own hand to complete the amicable ritual that was the handshake. He then gestured towards his brother whose scrutinising gaze was wordlessly examining her "This is my older brother Madara." he was obviously not the type to needlessly engage in frivolous pleasantries.
Sakura was aware of the concept of the Uchiha clan having two clan heads and found it quite fascinating. It became more obvious to her why the duo worked so well together, as Izuna seemed to be more of the diplomatic kind and Madara more of the straightforward actions type of guy. It would probably also be a healthy way to balance out clan related duties over two people rather than piling it all on one of the two.
Sakura realised she was staring in silence a bit too long as Sasuke's head peaked over Izuna's shoulder, looking at her questioningly. Shaking her head to clear her thoughts, Sakura opened the door wider to let the entourage in.
She led them through the door towards the dining room, glad to at least have one put together room to host a larger group of people. Sakura sat herself at the head of the table, eager to get straight to the point, as the others each chose a place at the long table.
"To what do I owe you this visit?" Sakura questioned politely as everyone had settled down. Her eyes flitted over each Uchiha in the room, coming to rest on Izuna as the safe choice. Surprisingly though, Madara cleared his throat.
"We're merely here to make sure you are not a threat to the people." Madara simply stated, intense gaze regarding her. Sakura tried not to audibly swallow at the statement. "Right." Sakura replied back evenly.
Grabbing some files out of the ominous looking briefcase Obito had brought along, he began a round of questioning "So you work at Konoha General Hospital, am I right?"
Sakura nodded "That's right."
Getting straight to the point he asked, "Have you ever stolen blood out of the storage or from a patient."
Sakura scoffed "Of course not."
"Then how do you get your supply of blood you require?" Obito's shrewd gaze pinned her. Sakura snorted, disbelieving, before replying "Surely you monster hunters know vampires and especially dhampirs can survive off of animal blood as well?"
Obito glared at her "Then how are you able to sustain your super strength? I saw that hole in the wall you punched yesterday, even though you tried to cover it up. Are you trying to hide something?"
Sakura laughed shortly "So you don't know, do you?"
The table of Uchiha looked slightly confused, making Sakura sober up "Wait, you actually don't know?"
"Know what?" Izuna politely asked.
Sakura explained "Dhampirs don't get weakened by consuming animal blood, it works as strongly as human blood would."
This was apparently a revelation for the Uchiha as they all regarded her with intense gazes. "Fascinating." Madara uttered out, regarding her in a different light.
Sakura just stared at the entourage blankly "How don't you guys know this? Aren't you supposed to be top of the line?"
Obito visibly bristled at that before Izuna laid a hand on his shoulder, warning him to stay put "Dhampirs are so rare and well-hidden that we never had a chance to examine or interview one." Izuna told her "You are the first one we've found in over centuries, and our ancestors weren't exactly clear in their writing."
"Really now?" Sakura mused. She let that sink in before she turned towards Sasuke "So, did you just think I magically conjured up human blood or something?" Sakura disbelievingly asked.
"Uhm- I thought you were just naturally that strong or something. You know, like another Gai and Lee." Sasuke quickly explained, holding up his hands defensively. Sakura sighed, face-palming.
"So, why exactly don't you live with a protection detail? We were convinced once a dhampir appears they get guarded fiercely by a troop of related vampires because of their coveted healing powers?" Madara surprisingly asked her.
Sakura scratched the back of her head awkwardly "Well... my mom was an only child and hid her pregnancy from her family." Sakura explained "That and my parents got killed in a scuffle for territory, so nobody ever found out. They think some civilian is living in this mansion now."
Izuna regarded her with pity "I'm sorry for your loss." Sakura shook her head, waving him off "You don't have to be."
A semi-awkward silence permeated the air, making Sakura sigh softly. Soon though, Obito spoke up again.
"Have you ever healed your patients with your powers?"
Sakura stilled briefly before replying reluctantly "I... I have, only once."
Obito's eyes silently questioned her for more details, which Sakura reluctantly shared "She was a friend of mine, caught up in something she never should have been. She came in on the verge of death, declared a lost cause. When nobody was looking I used only a drop of my blood on her, just enough to keep her alive." Sakura bowed her head, the traumatising memories flooding her mind "When Tsunade-sama, my supervisor, found out she was livid. Not because I was a dhampir, but because I could've used my power for more good. I explained to her how my body would be destroyed if I continually used my powers without consuming human blood, so she gave me an ultimatum; either never use it again in the hospital or use it for everyone."
Sakura paused for a bit to catch her breath before ending "I decided to never do it again, as I didn't want to consume the human blood we had, just by principle. It's a selfish decision, but I promised myself to never drink the blood of a human."
While Sakura never regretted saving Tenten, although she did sometimes wonder if she made the right choice by sticking to her own ideals.
Silence lingered in the air as each person took in the story that had just been told.
"That's a pity then, as we had a proposal for you." Madara piped up, leaning forward slightly "We wanted to ask you to help out our organisation with your powers."
Sakura, realising what was being offered, looked confused "Why would you want a supernatural on your team? Isn't that a bit counterintuitive?"
Shisui decided to speak up then "Didn't I tell you already, we hunt monsters, which doesn't necessarily mean the supernatural."
Sakura hummed in thought as Izuna elaborated "We would like you to rotate joining our teams on their own missions, and not to just use your healing powers of course, but your strength as a dhampir as well." he paused briefly as she took in the information "We have more supernaturals on our side as well, so you wouldn't be the only one."
Sakura sighed softly before responding "You should really work on your PR team, because all us people outside of your organisation are convinced you're just out for all supernaturals and only supernaturals."
"Technically we are an offshoot from the police, dealing with the more difficult cases." Itachi decided to finally speak up "So we can blame the police PR department on that one." he surprisingly joked.
Sasuke suddenly stood up from his seat "Wait wait wait! If Sakura's joining I'm joining too!" he declared.
Sasuke had veered off the path of being a monster hunter to protect Sakura, but as it turns out, that wasn't needed. He had joined the regular police force instead, which was coincidentally owned by the Uchiha as well. A switch wouldn't be too difficult for him, especially since he was from the main family.
"Who said I was joining, though?" Sakura butted in, raining on their little parade.
Expecting this, Madara procured a piece of paper out of god knows where, sliding it to her across the table "Look it over first."
Sakura picked up the contract, reading it as thoroughly as she could without leaving her audience waiting too long. It was mostly your bog-standard job contract, but soon she saw something that made her eyes bulge out.
They would get rid of her student loan entirely and give a damn good pay. Sakura looked up at Madara, who simply nodded, already knowing what she would've asked.
Sakura quickly finished reading, mind racing a thousand thoughts at a time.
"I..." Sakura looked at each person in the room who were regarding her with utmost interest "I will accept, on one condition."
"And what would this condition be?" Izuna inquired. Sakura simply responded "I still want to work at least two days a week in the hospital."
"Granted." Madara told her, as he made to stand up. Izuna followed, causing the rest of the entourage to spring into action too.
Sakura stood up too, straightening out her dress. Madara and Izuna came to stand in front of her, Izuna handing her a pen so she could sign the document. With a small "Oh!" Sakura accepted the pen and quickly signed the contract.
Handing over the document to the man, Izuna took it with a gentle smile "Good to have you on board." Sakura gave a gentle smile back "Likewise."
After shaking hands with Izuna as a final goodbye, she was surprised when Madara came to do the same. Sakura shook his hand as well, noticing the firmer grip than expected. He smirked at her "Can't wait to see what you're capable of." Sakura grinned back, cheekily retorting "Plenty."
The surprises didn't stop coming however, as Obito stepped up towards her as well. "I'd like to apologise for reacting so badly to you at first." he told her, bowing shallowly "I have had some bad experiences with vampires, and I let my judgement be clouded by these misconceptions." Sakura awkwardly scratched the back of her head "Ah, you're forgiven."
Lastly the remaining three walked over.
"So, good thing I informed everyone of your status, isn't it?" Shisui cheekily said, poking her cheek. Sakura swatted his hand away with a tiny glare as Sasuke piped up "You ratted her out is what you did, idiot."
Shisui leaned over Sasuke's shoulders, grinning "You did it first though." Sasuke bristled at that right when Itachi leaned over to say "He's right."
With a cry of frustration, Sasuke walked out of the room, not wanting to be confronted by the truth.
"Right. Anyways, can't wait to be teamed up with you, Saku-chan." Shisui continued on like the little debacle didn't happen. Itachi dipped his head in agreement "Likewise."
Sakura scratched her cheek "Uh, thanks, I guess."
"Well, time to leave you to your own devices, see you... tomorrow, probably!" Shisui cheerfully bid her farewell, unceremoniously dragging Itachi with him.
Silence returned to the mansion as she heard the front doors close shut for the last time.
Sighing, Sakura decided it was time to slip into some more comfortable clothes and ruminate over her weird fate.
