Disclaimer: Only the fic is mine.

AN: I give the newest episode a standing ovation. OMG Rebecca and Danielle really brought it last night. This idea for a Hetty and Trevor fic was then born. Unbeated, so I'm sorry for all errors.

***
Hetty had no idea how long she stood in the room after Alberta had stormed out, her entire soul felt shredded and she didn't know if she'd ever feel whole again.

She had always tried not to get close to people, to present herself as stone cold, because if you let yourself feel you would get your heart broken.

But it had done no good.

Hetty knew she deserved Alberta's wrath, making her think her theory about being murdered was all in her imagination when Hetty knew it had been her son that it had done it. But she'd kept it secret for nearly a century.

If only she had somehow raised Thomas better…. if only….

She didn't realize she had left the room into a hallway until Trevor bounded up to her, "Hetty! You won't believe what happened to me, Trevor, and Flower today…."

He must've read the look on her face and stopped talking, a look of concern on his face. "Hetty?"

The sweet way he said her name broke her and she began sobbing, Trevor caught her as her legs ceased to support her and he lifted her up into his arms. Under any other circumstances she would've screamed that she was no damsel in distress and to put her down.

But she didn't have the strength.

Soon she found herself with him in their secret hideaway and he sat with her until she cried herself out.

"Oh Hetty…."

"I should've been a better mother somehow…but in my time period wealthy left it to others to raise the children."

"Even if you had been there more might've not changed anything." Trevor said earnestly. "There's lots of people raised by great families who somehow end up as criminals. He chose to kill Alberta, it may have been humiliation, anger, the heat of the moment but he made his choice."

"Alberta hates me forever now and she has every right to." Hetty whispered sadly.

"She's hurt and angry, it'll take time, maybe a long time but she'll work through her feelings and come to terms with it."

Hetty wanted to believe that, she truly did.

"You both aren't alone, you have all of us, and I'm sure Sam will try to help in her ways."

"Oh good Lord." The thoughts of what Samantha might try to attempt already filled her with dread.

Hetty looked into Trevor's dark eyes, so earnest and caring. It had started as some fling to release holiday and ghostly frustrations, but it was somehow forever evolving.

I could've loved this man in another life…

No! Hetty brought herself out of her musings, it was too dangerous to think about trying to figure that slippery slope out, she had enough to deal with.

"You could've made a great therapy person if you put your mind to it." Hetty told him.

Trevor laughed and Hetty couldn't help but smile a bit.

Trevor laid them both back on the bed and just held her close.

"So what adventure did you have?" She asked, "I want to get my mind on something else for a bit."

Trevor relayed his tale and Hetty lost herself in the comfort of his embrace and voice.

Someone she never would've imagined when she was alive but was glad the afterlife let her have this.
