Maverick returns to Dalaran and remains here with Garithos' forces. He learns the New Alliance has full control over Silverpine and will be expecting Maverick to return to the front lines to face the incoming wave of undead from the Capital City. But what really concerns him right now is what he must do pretty soon. He has a chance to follow what he made in the game, or change the rules and allow things to play out as normal.
"I've got to do this… Killing undead was easy… Killing a man just because…" Maverick sighs and finish drinking his second mug of ale he got from the dwarves. He calls for a break and returns to his quarters to sleep for a few hours.
Kael'thas and his elves would be imprison by the New Alliance for two days, then be sentence to death at dawn. Garithos is busy sharpening his axe to deliver the final blow to the prince himself.
Maverick came to Garithos to see him sharpening his axe and asks "You really think this is necessary?"
"Those elves had this coming. It was a mistake bringing them into the Alliance. I'll correct this mistake myself." Garithos replies
Maverick shakes his head and replies "This is not how we take Lordaeron from the Scourge."
Garithos stops sharpening his axe and looks to Maverick "What, you don't like my methods of command?"
"Your methods are going to get these people killed. This ideal you have with this Alliance isn't going to work."
Garithos, slightly angry at this discussing, slams his axe through the ground beside him and rises up off his head to take a few steps towards Maverick. Maverick was close of taking a step back, but he remain standing his ground and trying to stay in character, while his heart continues to beat much faster.
"This Alliance has been made by ME. I rounded these people altogether to form this army. We have been cut off from the chain of command, so it is my duty to assure the Alliance stays active, and to preserve humanity above all else."
"This idea of yours is going to get many people killed…"
Garithos scoffs and turns around "You do what you're told, unless you wish to join the elves at the executioners block." He then grabs his axe and turns around to face Maverick "I will not tolerate insubordination in my ranks."
Maverick finally slows his heart rate and takes a deep breath and exhales silently. He says to him "You shouldn't be threatening me, Garithos. I have the power to help this Alliance destroy the Scourge. This Alliance needs me, but this Alliance doesn't need you in command."
"What did you just say?!" Garithos approaches Maverick again with the attempt to grab him by the neck. However, thanks to his invisible shield he put up ages ago, the shield blocks his hand and protects him from the grab.
Maverick's eyes widen at what Garithos was attempting to do, quickly defending himself by attacking him with a blast of lightning from both palms of his hands to knock Garithos back. The blast seriously electrifies his whole body and brings him down to one knee for a temporal time, but then he rises back up and becomes much bigger than before all the sudden.
"Oh shit…. Avatar…." Maverick replies and starts taking a few steps back
"You damned traitor!" Garithos raise his axe above his head and attempt to swing down at him to unleash a terrifying shockwave towards Maverick. The blast was enough to knock Maverick out of the room and knock him to the floor, but his shield remains active.
Maverick gets back up and starts moving back when Garithos comes towards him with the urge to kill. "You racist bastard!" He shouts out when taking a few steps away from him "And you're a damn hypocrite."
"I don't have to explain myself to the likes of you!" Garithos responds with a darker tone thanks to his Avatar power up. He held onto his axe with both hands and comes closer to Maverick "You will die here as a traitor to the Alliance."
"I can't use magic on him right now…." Maverick thought to himself while keeping his distance and not using any offensive attack on him. "I've got to wait."
Then, a group of soldiers and knights arrive at the scene to surround them and ready themselves to protect the Grand Marshal against Maverick. He looks back at them and replies "Here we out! This man will not –"
"Shut up!" Garithos stops him here by swinging his axe at the ground yet again to deliver another strong shockwave to knock Maverick back, but his shield protects him from any damage. Garithos looks to his men and replies "Any man who kills him shall be a hero."
"I wouldn't do it!" Maverick replies to them "You're throwing your lives away to protect a man who won't do the same towards you."
The men hesitate to step forward to attack him, only because some of these men know exactly how powerful Maverick really is. However, it is fear towards Garithos that makes them compel to attack him no matter what. Maverick was force to retreat to avoid the incoming attack from all sides by using a spell 'Blink' that allows him to disappear and reappear at a short distance away from the group. He looks back towards Garithos to see him charging towards him with several men beside him. Maverick had to defend himself by summoning his favourite revenant again.
"Come forth, Reaper." Maverick replies and presses his hand on the ground and creates a magical symbol in front of him for it to spawn the revenant in front of him.
The soldiers charge in first to engage the terrifying revenant, and only three of them became unfortunate to die with a good swing from its scythe to decapitate them. Maverick uses this time to begin channelling enough magic to attack everyone around him.
Things would become much problematic when more humans and dwarves came rushing into the scene to witness this, but was left unsure what to do from here. But as they saw that revenant cleaving through many soldiers, they chose to support Garithos' side and attack Maverick. Maverick cannot stop the spell, and with the incoming swings and bullets from guns hitting his protective shield, he has no choice but to unleash it upon everyone around him.
Garithos destroys the revenant and looks up at the sky to see Maverick calling upon another swarm of meteors upon everyone around him. This is exactly what he did last time against the Scourge. Garithos decides to turn around and escape the scene, but the impact of the meteors was enough to send Garithos flying, along with everyone else so close to Maverick. He sent several meteors to descend all around him and consume the area around in a flaming explosions that left everyone in pieces.
More and more soldiers came rushing to the scene when they saw the flying meteors coming down and causing an earthquake. As the smoke was slowly clearing away, Maverick came out of the smoke with no damage done to him. He was coughing and waving his hand around to get the smoke out of his face. He would find Garithos still alive, but the attack was enough to keep Garithos down to the floor and left dragging his broken body away from the scene.
Despite seeing Garithos as an enemy and a bully, he felt sad when looking down at him and the lives he took just to kill Garithos. He shakes his head and sighs over this "This was not how I wanted things to play out…." He then raise his right hand to aim the palm of his hand towards Garithos to finish him with a fireball. "Hmmmm, you died the same way you did in the game…." And then he discharges that fireball to finally put Garithos down for good.
The next thing Maverick now deals with now is looking back to find so many people surrounding the scene and keeping their weapons drawn with the ready to attack him. Once the smoke clears and catches his breath, Maverick raise his voice to speak to everyone.
"The Grand Marshal is dead! His methods of taking back Lordaeron from the Scourge was never going to work. I alone have the power to do that, but I cannot do this alone. I ask that you join my side and make me your new leader of the New Alliance. Those who wish not to follow me can leave. I will not harm you, so I'm giving you a chance to escape this war and travel south into the dwarf lands. The choice is up to you."
Everything went silent as everyone looks to one another to see what everyone else responds to this. Everything would start to move when one soldier steps forward, sheathes his sword and drops down on one knee in front of Maverick. After one man went down on one knee, almost everyone else starts to do exactly what that man did and drop down on one knee. Those who are left standing would hesitate for a moment until they finally joins the others and serve Maverick.
Maverick exhales deeply at relief to see everyone working together. He says to everyone "Remind everyone else on what has happened here. Give them a choice. After that, we've got work to do."
And so it did not take long for all of the New Alliance to hear the news about Garithos' death. While many never really like Garithos' methods, he was the only one who has the strength to lead this force against the Scourge. And after what many saw what Maverick did to the undead, they knew his strength is enough to do more than what Garithos could do.
The next thing he deals with now is the blood elves escaping from the dungeons. Kael'thas and Vashj have already made it to the surface with the blood elves and naga coming together in an attempt to secure the dimensional gateway into Outland. However, as they arrive at the gate, both are surprise to find Maverick standing guard with two men standing beside him. They all turn towards Kael and Vashj, and both the soldiers drew weapons to ready themselves to attack.
"That won't be necessary." Maverick replies and starts walking towards the two "Hello again, Kael'thas." He looks to Kael then towards Vashj "Lady Vashj. You look lovely."
Vashj looks surprise and asks "How do you know my name?"
"I know a lot of things." Maverick replies and looks back to the portal "I know you plan to take the blood elves to Outland to search for Illidan."
"What!?" Vashj got more surprise to learn that someone outside knows the plan.
"I've recognise you before." Kael replies "You were there with Garithos."
Maverick looks back to Kael and responds "Garithos is dead. I'm in command of the New Alliance."
"What!?"
"Who are you, stranger?" Vashj asks him
"I'm the new Guardian. The names Maverick."
"Maverick… As in…." Kael pause for a moment when realising who this man really is "You're supposed to be in prison."
"I can say the same to you." Maverick replies
"I now remember…. It was the wizards that imprisoned you. You cursed them and promised you'd return to destroy those who betrayed you. And now you're here…." Kael replies
"I'm no longer that man anymore. I have my own goals, and one involves destroying the Scourge and securing Lordaeron."
"What is it you want from us?" Vashj slithers closer to Maverick
"Well, I've been thinking about this for quite some time." Maverick looks back to the gate and continues "If I destroy this gate, you two would remain behind and help me destroy the Scourge. However, if you don't join Illidan, he'll never secure Outland and attack the Lich King, thus weakening the Lich King's control in Lordaeron." He looks back to the two "Without your distraction, I would have to face the Scourge at full power. So I've decided to let things play out as it is and let you leave through the portal."
"How is it that you know all of this?" Vashj asks and Kael thought the same thing
Maverick smiles and replies "I know how the game works. I know how it ends. I know you'll succeed in Outland, while I'll succeed in destroying the Scourge in Lordaeron. I wish you good luck on what's to come."
After that, the talk was over and the action began for the elves and naga to depart this land and venture into Outland. Maverick steps aside and allows this evacuation to begin without any resistance from the New Alliance.
During the evacuation, Maverick says one last thing to Kael to get his attention. "Kael. There's one thing you should know. If I succeed in taking Lordaeron, I'll eventually turn my attention towards Quel'Thalas. I'm going to be needing your help on that, in exchange for your full loyalty towards me and not towards Illidan. I hope you think about that."
Kael says nothing and watches him leave to return to the base with his guards. He looks towards the portal and thinks about this idea of reclaiming Quel'Thalas.
Vashj slithers towards Kael and asks "What did that man say to you?"
"It's nothing." Kael replies "So, this takes us to Outland?"
"Yes. Outland is all that remains of Draenor, the former homeland of the Horde."
"Amazing. I remember when Khadgar led the Alliance Expedition here, years ago. He almost succeeded in wiping the orcs out for good."
Meanwhile, while Maverick stood at a distance to watch the elves going through the portal, he asks his men to give himself time to be by himself and give this chance to take a break at what transpire on this day. When he got that privacy, he leans his back against the walls and sighs deeply while pressing his right hand against the top of his face to cover his eyes.
"Damn…. I'm becoming just like Maverick…. He gets rid of the ones that's a problem and replace them with himself… I'm no better than that bastard Garithos…" Maverick lowers his eyes and looks out at the view of the broken city "Well… This was never meant to be easy. Can't really play a good guy in a time like this. But I wonder… What's going to happen to me when I reach the end of my campaign?"
After that he turns his attention towards the portal to Outland where as soon as Kael and Vashj enter through the portal as the last two, the portal closes behind them. With them gone, Maverick sighs again and tries to think about what his plan to do now. As soon as he got his answer, he returns to camp to give new commands to the lieutenants and captains of the New Alliance.
After a few days of preparing and recalling the troops in Silverpine to return to Dalaran, the plan was set and agree to set out into the plaguelands into the north by passing through Alterac. Maverick would ride out on Garithos' horse with knights beside him on travelling through Alterac to arrive at the ruins of Andorhal. His strategic plan of travelling to the north was better than controlling Silverpine because if they travel through Silverpine towards the capital would involve facing off against the three Dreadlords and a confrontation of Arthas himself. His choice is to search for allies from Hearthglen to find those who would create the Scarlet Crusaders and the Argent Dawn.
Before he could send the messages, Maverick needs to clear Andorhal from the Scourge. One difficult enemy, named Araj the Summoner, is present here with his army ready to move.
"Hmmmm, I could blow the whole place up with another meteor like I did last time…. Although let's try something else." Maverick rides forward and summons his revenant again to join the fight. The knights follow beside him into the broken town and engages the undead.
"What is this?" Araj asks with surprise to witness humans attacking them "There's still surviving humans? No matter, they'll join the Scourge one way or another." He then cast a few spells of his own, which are just frost spells where one shields him and freezes anyone that tries to get too close, while his second spell is an offensive projectile that freezes the target if made contact with it.
Maverick rides in with an overcharge fireball and fires it as soon as Araj shoots his frostbolt towards him. Both projectiles made contact with each other, but his fireball was enough to incinerate it and blasts Araj with a direct hit to the chest. He collapses on the floor and left on fire for a few seconds, but he casts another frost shield to remove the flames and quickly defends himself again by using a summoning spell to summon a few undead minions to protect and attack.
The knights surround the town and pull the undead away from the buildings to lead them outside, then leave Reaper and its summoned spiritual minions to back them up and attack. The knights are here as a diversion to pull them closer and then leave Maverick's minions to do most of the work.
After Maverick was done blasting the incoming ghouls charging towards him, he rides back to avoid the large skeleton charging towards him. He attempts to jump off his horse to fight it with it, but he ends up falling off the horse anyway. As soon as he got back up, he pushes the horse away from the sight and charges another power into a mighty lightning bolt and blasts straight through it to have it coming towards Araj. The lightning seriously stuns Araj for a few seconds, which was enough to attack the other nearby undead with another blast of fireball volley that targets all of his nearby enemies to aflame. His revenant was still alive and hovers towards Araj to allow it to face it one on one until Araj was finally torn apart by the scythe of Reaper. Araj the Summoner was no more.
The battle of Andorhal came to a close a few minutes later, and the arrival of his army came just in time to secure this broken town and eliminate any other undead stragglers.
"Were in the clear now…" Maverick says to himself while walking through the town and standing over whatever is left of Araj. He turns around to see a knight coming towards him with his horse beside him. He says to the knight "You can go ahead and send in the scouts. It's time to call for the rest of the team."
