Prologue: Awakening Parts 1 & 2.
I found fanart of Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons (try saying that 5 times) the Gargoyles au, I love Gargoyles and decided to combine the two, as well as the other fandoms you can add in the big 4. I'll still keep some of the Manhattan Clan and replace some with characters from Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons as well as secondary characters. Also, first time writing one of these types of fanfics so be nice.
Scotland 994 A.D.
Sunset is near at castle DunBroch that's fighting off an invasion from the Vikings of Berk. Their leader Stoick orders his men to fire catapults at the castle.
"Attacking a castle full of Gargoyles near nightfall. This is crazy! And my dad knows it." Says Stoick's son Hiccup which gets his fathers attention. "No Hiccup. That's not crazy. Questioning my sanity when I'm in earshot, that's crazy!" Stoick then goes forward to give his fellow Vikings a speech: "I say those Gargoyles are naught but chiseled stone. And even if they aren't, it's worth the risk for the plunder within. ATTACK!"
This speech convinces his men to charge forward eventually ramming their way through the castle guards and they begin to scale the castle. Stoick reaches the top of the castle as the sun sets and one of the statues begins to crack as it comes to life to reveal the leader of the clan of gargoyles: Goliath. Goliath looks down to notice Stoick and grabs him looking like he is about to drop him when he says: "you are trespassing!"
The rest of the gargoyles awaken frightening the Vikings.
Stoick draws his sword but Goliath catches it but Stoick notices the gargoyles hand is bleeding and with this realization, the Viking leader but he alert his soldiers "Fight men. They are not invincible."
This causes his soldiers to charge and continue fighting but the gargoyles don't relent either and defend the castle. Stoick kicks Goliath allowing him to escape the gargoyles' clutches.
On top of one of the castle's pillars 4 gargoyles are standing watching the battle, the lone male is red skinned with a beak like head and has white hair wearing a blue loincloth. One of the female gargoyles has pink skin and incredibly long blonde hair and a pink dress. Another gargoyle has strawberry blonde hair and she has the same skin color as the humans wearing a dark blue dress. And the third one was platinum blond hair, pale white skin and a blue dress.
"Well ladies, shall we let the rest of the clan have all the fun?" asked the red gargoyle who glides down into the battle.
"Not afraid, are you?" asked the strawberry blonde gargoyle.
"Of course not." Said the pink gargoyle as the three females glided down into battle.
As some of the Vikings were climbing up the stairs they run into an elderly gargoyle who easily counters and sends back the Vikings attacks. One of the Vikings has a club and is about to sneak attack the elderly gargoyle but Goliath glides down to intercept the Viking throwing him away.
"Watch your back, old friend." Said Goliath.
"Watch your own." As more Vikings start climbing up the stairs for the elderly gargoyle to fight.
Another Viking charges at Goliath who catches his sword after dodging him and throws him at another Viking.
The king of Castle DunBroch named Fergus helps to fight off the Vikings as well when with Goliath.
"Why, thanks, Goliath."
"I could not do otherwise.
"These rogues no doubt followed that band of refugees we gave shelter to last night." Said the king.
The platinum blonde gargoyle glided down to the refugees catching the eyes of a young boy as she reveals her self to have ice magic and freezes one of the Vikings.
Stoick is beginning to tire while battling the gargoyles when he runs into a black gargoyle beast with green eyes that pounces him and leaves claw marks on the stone. Stoick runs from the beast but runs a female gargoyle with her eyes glowing red looks like a demon in the shadows. "Face me, human, if you dare." She then hisses at the Viking leader causing him to run in fear but now is caught between the female and gargoyle beast.
Goliath then lands behind Stoick. "I see you've met our watchdog. And my second-in-command as well. I grow tired of this. Take what's left of your men." And Goliath then throws the Viking's leader into a pile of hay. "And be gone."
"This isn't over, monster. Ill be back!" declared Stoick as him and his Viking's retreated. As the humans were celebrating their victory acting as if they fought off the Vikings on their own. (Even though they would've lost without the gargoyles) while all the gargoyles are gathered on a pillar Goliaths second-in-command bandages his hand up and the king says: "Goliath, we owe you our lives."
"As we owe you ours every day." Responded Goliath
In the dining hall everyone is celebrating their victory and at the front is Fergus' wife Elinor and the Magus, a wizard. Although some of the kings soldiers are making fun of his loyalty to the gargoyles.
"Our thanks for a battle well fought Fergus." Said Elinor.
"The credit is not mine to take, my wife. Without Goliath and his gargoyles our defense would have proven useless." Said Fergus.
"Please, don't mention that monsters name in my presence." Said the queen, but speak of the devil, Goliath and his second-in-command walk into the dining hall.
"Beg your pardon, I took the liberty and asked them to come and be recognized for their bravery." Explained Fergus angering his wife who responds. "We are most seriously displeased. To allow beasts in the dining hall!"
"You speak wisely my queen. These are unnatural creatures. No good can come from associating with them." Said the Magus.
Despite what the Magus and queen say Goliath still walks up to them and bows before the queen startling the queen.
"Goliath, we named you well, it seems. You are as good as the Philistine giant who fought David."
"You do well to remember Fergus that the biblical Goliath was also a bully and a savage." Hearing the queen's words caused Goliath's mate to hiss at her scaring the queen.
"If you will excuse us, your highness." Goliath and his mate walk out and the king follows who apologizes for his wife. "No apologies needed. We are what we are. Her opinion will not change that."
This gets on his mates nerves "Have you no pride? No sense of justice? We saved their lives and they repay us with contempt?"
"She is right, Goliath. You deserve better than this."
"These cliffs were our home ages before they built their stone fortress. They should bow to us." Added the female gargoyle.
"It is the nature of humankind to fear what they do not understand. Their ways are not our ways."
Goliaths mate sighs and says. "There are times when your patience astounds me, my love."
The morning has risen and all of the gargoyles are now statues on the castle. While miles ahead in the Viking's camp, Stoick is sulking at the defeat at the hands of the gargoyles when Hiccup walks in. "Dad I might have an idea on how to defeat the gargoyles, I've studied them and…"
"Hiccup I've told you, Vikings don't read, we fight."
"I know but I think I know where we went wrong we should wait until minutes before sunrise for our next attack so that the gargoyles will defenseless and the human soldiers will easily will overrun and we can take their castle."
This causes Stoick to grin hearing this plan but they will have to wait until tomorrow morning to see it through.
The next night, Goliath's wound is healed and he takes off his bandage when Fergus comes over. "Those Viking's may return at daybreak, Goliath. I say, take all your gargoyles and make sure they're gone." On this Goliath's mate agrees.
"Too dangerous. I don't want to leave the castle unprotected." Says Goliath but Fergus responds. "Their leader swore he'd be back. It's best to harry them far away now and not take that chance."
Goliath then sighs saying: "Very well. But I shall do it. I can scare those cowards away without any help."
"That's too dangerous for you. Let me come along, at least." Said Goliath's mate. At which he responded: "You and the others will stay with the castle. You are my best warrior. I leave you in command." When she says she won't allow it he promises he wont go alone saying that they are one "Now and Forever."
Inside the castle with the refugees, the quartet of gargoyles from last night are on the ground level celebrating away from the humans playing with thew beast when a boy who saw them fight last night came up to them.
"I'm Tom, What's your name?"
"Except for Goliath, we don't have names." Explained the platinum blonde gargoyle.
"Then how do you tell each other apart?"
"We look different."
"But what do you call each other?"
"Friend." Said the red gargoyle. But when the boys curiosity was peaked his mother came worrying about her son.
"Tom! Get away from us, monsters!"
The red gargoyle says they wouldn't harm Tom but she throws a stick at him. Then Goliath's mate glides down hissing and growling at the mother and son. "You're the beast, you…" before she could do anything the red gargoyle intervenes and says: "No, if they think we're beasts and monsters…"
"Then perhaps we'd better live up to the name." said the strawberry blonde gargoyle as the two gargoyles eyes glow and they start growling frightening the humans but before things could get worse Goliath and the elderly gargoyle intervene.
"You four! Down to the rookery until I return! I'll deal with you then." He basically grounds them and sends them to their room and points to their beast and says: "And take him with you."
As the are about to go to the rookery the gargoyle with the impossibly long hair says: "We meant no harm." The five then walk into the rookery.
"Are you blind? They were not at fault. The humans were." Said Goliath's mate. In which Goliath responds: "No matter who was at fault, I cannot condone fighting between their people and ours. I will make it up to them later. Now I have business to attend to." Goliath then leaves to scare off the Vikings.
While Goliath is flying off the elderly gargoyle has followed him and Goliath spots some footprints and they land and the elderly gargoyle examines them "It's them, right enough. But the tracks are very light for horses carrying armored men." Goliath realizes that they must not be far, so they go into the woods. While they are gliding, they notice the Vikings but realize is not much longer until sunrise so they glide down to take them out.
Seeing the 2 gargoyles causes the Vikings and horses to run away in terror when Goliath realizes that this was a decoy to keep them away from but when they run out of the forest the sun has risen and they turn to stone.
Stoick orders his men to attack the castle and without the gargoyles the soldiers are easily overpowered as they storm the castle. The Vikings successfully capture all the survivors dragging them off to decide what to do with. All except for Fergus who is wounded at one of the pillars trying to protect the gargoyles.
"I have to ask, what is your loyalty to these beasts?" asked Stoick with his son Hiccup next to him.
"I owe Goliath my life. When I was a boy Mor'du a monster bear attacked and he saved me, I may not be a gargoyle, but I consider Goliath my brother." Explained Fergus as he takes his last breath asking Goliath and Elinor will forgive him.
Stoick realizes there is little time until sunset so he grabs a mace and is about to smash a gargoyle when Hiccup says: "Dad, this is unnecessary."
"Are you mad Hiccup. In a moment they'll be flesh again and our people will be their prey."
"I told you I've studied the gargoyles, once we leave they won't follow. It's not their nature." Stoick shoves his son away as Hiccup is helpless to watch as his father butchers the gargoyles while they are defenseless. Needless to say Hiccup was mortified realizing what he has done.
The next night Goliath and the elderly gargoyle glide back to the castle but what they see horrifies them. There is smoak throughout the castle and burned tapestries and fallen soldiers. But what saddens the two the most is seeing what remains of their clan just piles of rubble. "My… angel of the night." Seeing the remains and Fergus' body causes Goliath to roar with anger.
The four gargoyles and beast that Goliath sent to the rookery open the gate and were caught off guard by what they saw and it is not a sight they wish they could remember. Goliath then glides down to the quartet and beast. "Were any more down in the rookery?"
"None. Only us." Said the long blonde haired gargoyle.
"All the humans are gone. Taken prisoner most likely." Said the elderly gargoyle
Goliath responds "Then we will find them. We will save the humans. And we will have our revenge!" Goliath's eyes glow and he and the remaining gargoyles glide off, except for the beast who runs off, to get their revenge on the Vikings.
In the cave where Stoick set up camp he has queen Elinor and the Magus tied up. "mmm, the Magus is worth more alive than dead. Barely. But I'm sure that any remaining members of clan DunBroch will pay handsomely for your return."
"You bastard! If I had my book of spells, I'd…" the magus is interrupted by Stoick's laughter. "Might you be referring to this book, Magus? Magic spells, complete nonsense." Stoick starts ripping out pages and throws them into the fire. They all hear screaming from the Viking soldiers making them realize that them realize that the remaining gargoyles have come for them.
"You said they wouldn't follow us."
"If you hadn't destroyed the others."
Stoick then runs and grabs the queen. "Your precious gargoyles have come, your majesty." as he and Hiccup make a run for it.
"The gargoyles?" she said surprised that they would come but realizes that them coming means "You're a dead man Stoick." Stoick decides if the gargoyles are going to kill him he'll take the queen out as well but she shoves Stoick and runs away and the Viking leader and his son follow her.
Goliath sees the Stoick and follows him to get his revenge while the rest fight off the soldiers. The elderly gargoyle throws away soldiers easily and even steals one's knife. The gargoyle with long blonde hair sees a frying pan and starts swinging it at the Vikings. Seeing the beast from the cover of darkness causes some Vikings to run away in fear as it chases them. The red male gargoyle and the strawberry blonde female gargoyle easily throw away the Vikings like nothing and the platinum blonde female finishes off the rest by freezing them with her ice magic or stabbing them with icicles.
Seeing this caused the boy Tom to cheer as he believed the gargoyles would save them. But before the could celebrate, the magus escaped being tied down and left the cave. "You fools! She'd be alive now if you hadn't come. They would have ransomed us both. But you invaded their camp and now…"
"What's all this? Where's the queen?" asked the elderly gargoyle.
"Dead. And could I but weld a sword, I would send you all to join her. But this will have to do instead." And he starts chanting in Latin a magic spell. (Why is magic always just Latin words, if that worked in real life I could be a wizard since I took Latin in high school)
While at the cliff Stoick finally catches the princess and has a knife ready to stab her with when the notice a shadow revealed to be Goliath. Goliath lands growling with his eyes glowing "All of my kind our dead and now, the 2 of you will join them as well."
Stoick decides to finish off the gargoyle and starts to jump him but before he could Hiccup says: "Dad stop! This isn't right this wouldn't have happened if you just listened. I told you not to kill the gargoyles but you never listen to me I didn't want that to happen, this is all my fault."
"You were always worth more as a someone to yell at then a son. Your mother would be ashamed." Said Stoick as be charges to stab Goliath but Hiccup finally stands up to his father and jumps him starting to punch him and the two fall back. But Stoick grabs the queen and the 3 start falling. Goliath runs and catches Hiccup and Elinor and Stoick falls to his doom. Goliath uses his claws to release the queen from the ropes but when he looks down he cant see Stoick's body.
"I've been denied everything. Even my revenge!" goliath roars out that last part.
"Goliath, I…" said Hiccup feeling guilty about the role he played in this is interrupted.
"Goliath! You've got to come help your friends" yelled Tom who came over.
When they come over they notice that the gargoyles are stone at night.
"Stone. At night. What sorcery is this?"
"Sorcery indeed! And now you shall join them!" said the Magus but before he could cast the spell he sees the queen walking behind Goliath. "Your majesty."
"Oh Magus, what have you done?" hearing the queen's words cause the magus to drop his spellbook and himself in shame.
"I… I thought you were dead your highness. I was mad with grief."
"Reverse the spell." Ordered Goliath who lifts up the Magus with no ease.
"I… I cannot! The page with the counter-spell was burned." Explained the sorcerer and Goliath looks down noticing some off the pages were ripped of, and drops him.
"Now I am truly alone."
"Did you turn them to stone forever or is there someway to reverse it?" asked Hiccup.
"The terms of the spell are that they would sleep until the castle rises above the clouds." Explained the Magus.
With help from the queen and the people Goliath and the gargoyles saved they were able to put the now permanent statues on top of the castle. "We've done you a great wrong, Goliath." Said Elinor.
"I know that no apology can be enough, Goliath. I wish there was something I could do." Said the Magus.
"What will you do now?" asked Hiccup "I cant go back to Berk since I betrayed my father and I doubt any of the others will want me around."
"I'll take my people to one of the other clans. It's no longer safe for us here." Explained the queen.
"I have a request." Said Goliath.
"You have but to name it." Said Elinor.
"The eggs in the rookery will soon hatch. They will need guidance."
"Never fear. We will watch over them as if they were our own."
"There is something… you can do for me for me, Magus. Cast your spell one more time."
"Wait does the spell work on humans?" asked Hiccup shocking everyone. "It was my plan that caused this." And Hiccup now bows on his knees. "If you will allow it Goliath I will turn to stone and spend the rest of my life protecting your clan."
"Magus?" asked Goliath shocked by the boy's desire to redeem himself and remembering how he protected him from his own father asked if it will work.
"It does and if you ever wake up unlike the gargoyles you won't turn to stone at day since you're a human." Said the magus and he cast the spell transforming the Viking and gargoyle into stone.
Now in the year 2030
The castle has decayed over the centuries and is now covered in moss. But a man named David Xanatos stands in front of it.
Xanatos observes the castle and decides to but the castle. He hires people to take apart the castle and clean it up and carefully crate up the statues. The scene now changes to the city of San Fransokyo where through an unknown amount of time the castle has been moved to the top of a skyscraper (Don't even know if that is possible.)
Xanatos lands his helicopter just before night begins to fall over the city. By the rules of the spell the castle is now over the clouds so that means that the curse is broken and the gargoyles, and Viking wake up.
Goliath wakes up with a roar and is now with his clan. "We're awake! We're alive! We're together again." Goliath embraces the remaining members of his clan. Until they see Hiccup but before they could attack him Goliath says "Wait! Do not harm him."
"But he's a Viking." Said the red male gargoyle.
"True but he saved me and the queen and he has given his word to defend us. I'll allow him, for now." said Goliath but the other gargoyles gave him dirty looks until they notice that they are above the clouds and that there is now a large city under them, when Xanatos appeared from the shadows.
"You are the one called Goliath?" to which Goliath responded yes. "Excellent."
They head inside and into the dining call to discuss what has changed. "How long has it been?" asked Hiccup.
"This may be a shock. Over a thousand tears have gone by since the spell was cast." This shocks everyone as they realize that everyone they ever knew would be gone and most likely the eggs in the rookery would be dead by now if they hatched at all. "I learned about the castle and all of you from an ancient book that recently came into my possession. The magus who cursed you wrote the whole story down in there." He points to the same spell book sealed away in a glass container. "Now I'm sure you have questions."
"How did you break the spell?" asked the elderly gargoyle.
"It was designed to end when the castle rose above the clouds." Answered Xanatos.
"The eggs in the rookery?" asked the blonde gargoyle with long hair.
"Gone, I'm afraid. You are the last of your kind." Hearing this saddens the gargoyles.
"Why have you done all this?" asked Goliath.
"I was fascinated by the Magus' story, I wanted to see if it was true. And now that I know it is, I want to be your friend. There's much we can do for each other, Goliath."
"Such as."
"Well…" before Xanatos could continue he heard the sounds of the blades of a helicopter. "I'm not expecting anyone. You'll be safer if you stay here." The gargoyles don't listen to Xanatos and head out to see what is going on.
A helicopter appears with soldiers jumping out of it. A total of five armed soldiers land and speard out to secure the castle. One comes up to Xanatos with a gun pointed to him and Xanatos asks: "What do you want?" the response is "You'll know, soon enough." And the rest of the soldiers surround him.
"What's going on? Who are these people?" asked the red male gargoyle.
"They're attacking the castle. That's all we need to know." Said the elderly gargoyle as they all get ready to fight the intruders.
The mercenaries began shooting as Goliath tail swiped one but he regained his balance and pushed him back. Before he could shoot Xanatos knocks the gun out of his hand and judo flips him. When he tired to grab the gun another mercenary appeared in front of him but the long haired gargoyle whacks him unconscious with a frying pan.
One of the mercenaries fires a taser gun at the elderly gargoyle causing him pain but the red gargoyle and the platinum blonde gargoyle appeared behind him and threw him but he threw a grenade. Which Hiccup ran in and caught with his leg and because he was unaware of what it does he just leaves it on the ground but it explodes blasting off his leg causing Hiccup to lose consciousness.
Xanatos runs up to a secret compartment he installed in the castle to grab a weapon of his own. The weapon shot a laser at the walls causing rocks to fall on a mercenary own was fighting Goliath.
The strawberry haired female gargoyle appeared in front of the female mercenary with glowing red eyes. "Are you a Viking?" the female mercenary started firing lasers as the strawberry haired gargoyle dodged into the clouds where the mercenary couldn't see but glided back up and tackling the female mercenary.
"These weapons! We must be battling sorcerers!" said the elderly gargoyle who was currently with Goliath.
"Even so, we will protect this castle. It's all we have left." Said Goliath.
One of the mercenaries threw a grenade but this time the gargoyles knew to dodge. Before Xanatos could fire his laser gun again, a mercenary tackle him and he ends up firing at the roof of the castle. While no one at the bottom of San Fransokyo only see what looks like some kind of advanced lightshow with rubble from the castle falling down. Near the building is Detective Elisa Maza who notices claws marks on the stone and wonders how anything could leave claw marks on solid steel. Farther away was a boy named Hiro Hamada who just finished a bot fight and notices the lights and remembers that his brother Tadashi works for Xanatos as an intern.
Another grenade is thrown causing Goliath to fall out of the castle but he uses his claws to slow down the fall causing s screeching noise and Goliath has to slowly climb back up the building.
One of the mercenaries managed to sneak away from the battle and sneaks away and uses a device to break through the defenses of the door and get in.
Goliath climbs up to see the strawberry haired gargoyle pinned down by a mercenary so he tackles the mercenary to the floor of the castle. Another mercenary throws a bomb that fires a gas causing to Goliath to gasp for air.
The mercenary who went into a sealed door left with a briefcase in his hand and told the other that he has it. So the leader fires a flare and the helicopter returns And the mercenaries retreat.
"I've never seen weapons like those before. And that flying creature that carried them off." Said the red gargoyle.
"A dragon without a doubt." Said the elderly gargoyle.
"It wasn't a dragon. It was a machine of some sort." Said the pink gargoyle.
"Wait what about the Viking. He took that explosion for us." Said the platinum blonde gargoyle.
"He lost a leg but my intern Tadashi is going to build him a prosthetic leg."
"Prosthetic?"
"A fake metal leg. Now I wish to thank you all for your help. Without you all who knows what those thugs might have done."
"Why were you attacked?" asked Goliath.
"The richer you are, the more enemies you have. And I'm very rich. Goliath, this is your home, as well as my headquarters. I hope you'll consider working with me to keep it safe."
"It's your decision lad, but… we've nowhere else to go." Said the elderly gargoyle.
"This castle is our home, no matter where it has been taken. We'll will stay here." Answered Goliath.
"Excellent. I know people have treated you poorly in the past, but all that is about to change. Trust me."
"You broke the spell of sleep that imprisoned us Xanatos, and for that we are grateful. But we won't be so willing to trust humans especially ones we just met."
"I can tell this relationship is something we'll have to work at."
Back at ground level no one has any idea any what was happening. Hiro Hamada arrived hoping to check on his brother when Detective Maza notices him as she has arrested him a few times for bot fighting. "Hamada what are you doing here?"
"My brother works here as an intern I wanted to check to see what was going on. What happened?"
"I don't know. But I'm going to find out."
Finally finished. Took a while because of real life stuff, not fun. Also Hiccup is the HTTYD 2 version but he loses his leg now. also if not obvious I only introduced half of the big 4, Hiccup is a human, Rapunzel is a gargoyle, while Jack and Merida will appear later I promise.
