Driving a car, the man pressed a button and a gate opened to reveal a large mansion. He opened the doors and walked through the living room to what looked like an armory, setting the Desert Eagle on the table in front of a man inspecting a rifle, getting the latter to look at the former.
"We have a problem." The one standing said.
One of the bullets was taken out of the magazine and held in a pair of forceps.
"I'll have to run some tests, but it's definitely a fluid of some sort." The seated Death Hunter said.
The one in the red trench coat sighed. "Liquified obsidian."
"Black glass harnessed as a weapon."
A blonde woman walked to the two with a group of Dragons waiting a little bit behind her.
"So, I'm supposed to believe that an overgrown chicken made a bullet specifically designed to kill Dragons." She said.
"It's more than likely a high tech tracer round they stole from the military."
"How and where they got these things, I don't care about. Ruby is dead and Natasha may still be out there! Let's gather the Death Hunters and head back down in force." The man who brought the gun said.
"For a random incursion? I think not. Not now, at least. The Awakening is a few days away and this house is restless as it is." She said to him.
"It wasn't random. They fired on us in eyes of the public. And from what I heard in those tunnels..."
"But you admitted that you didn't actually see anything."
"I know what I heard and what my gut tells me, all right? I am telling you here and now, there could be dozens, maybe even hundreds, of Phoenixes down there!"
"They've been hunted almost to extinction."
"Kyra's right, Chris." The other Death Hunter said. "A flock of that magnitude hasn't been around since the days of Lena."
"I know, John. But I'd be proven wrong by having it checked out."
John looked at Kyra.
"So be it. Your men can tidy things up and I'll have Sasha assemble a search team." She said.
Chris, who had started to walk away, turned to her with a glare. "I will lead the team myself!"
"Absolutely not! Sasha will handle this! You are staying where I can keep my eyes on you!" She said then turned to John. "Hundreds?"
Chris's glare turned ice cold. "Vera would take my side in this matter. You will never be the leader she is." He snarled then left the armory.
He soon stood in front of two sliding glass doors and stared at the circular mechanical door with a V on it. Ethan, one of Kyra's most trusted Dragons, soon walked to him and stood beside him.
"It's a time waster, you know." He said, revealing his English voice.
"What?"
"I doubt Vera would want you to freeze to death while staring at her tomb for hours."
"She'd want the Death Hunters scouring the city right now." Chris then scoffed. "I doubt I'll ever understand why she left Kyra in charge. She's not a warrior, she's a bloody diplomat."
"We need to get ready for the party. Adrian's envoy will arrive shortly."
In Chris's room shortly afterwards, he loaded the memory card from Ruby's camera to his laptop and began looking at the photos of the Phoenixes.
Ethan looked at a fancy tux in the body mirror in Chris's room, the warrior barely soaring his fellow Dragon a glance. "This is perfect. Wear it."
Chris rolled his eyes. "I'm a deadly warrior, not a social butterfly. I don't have time for the party anyway, Ethan." He said without looking up from the screen. In one photo, he zoomed in towards the bottom and sharpened the image to reveal it was the woman he saw in the subway. "They wanted you."
Ethan walked over to him and looked over his shoulder at the woman. "For a human, she's attractive."
"Who is?" Kyra asked. Ethan stepped out of the room and Kyra looked at Chris. "I planned to have you at my side tonight, you know."
"Ethan would die to be at your side. Take him instead. I have work to do."
"In my opinion, you take being a warrior too seriously. No matter how many are killed by your bullets or claws, the past cannot be undone. Besides, even an immortal shouldn't deny life's simple pleasures."
"See this human?"
Kyra sighed silently. "What about her?"
"I'm not positive, but I think the Phoenixes were..."
Dogs began barking as a limo pulled up to the front door.
"Dress sharply and hurry about it." Kyra said as she turned to leave the room.
"I'm serious, Kyra. I believe they were following her." Chris said.
Kyra turned to him. "Aside from food or a nest, what would Phoenixes follow a human for?" She asked then left the room.
He found out the human's name was Blake Johnson then pulled up where she lived. After that, he grabbed his coat and put it on then headed to the garage and drove off in a car. He'd made sure that his Berettas were loaded and ready as he drove.
That's chapter two
I know I'm leaving out the Phoenix (Lycan) scenes as well as some Dragon (Vampire) scenes and I'm sorry for that. If need be, I'll go back and add some of them.
Also, please don't ask me why a lot of the chapters for my stories are usually a thousand words or more. Even I don't know. Lol
Finally, I know Johnson is a cliched last name, but every other choice before it were names I could not use for Blake. Sorry
Anyway, review, favorite, and follow for more chapters
