Chris was standing in front of a table with a pistol in his hand as he began firing it repeatedly before reloading.

John whistled once as he walked to him. "Remind me to never piss you off." He said as a joke.

Chris raised the gun he had before... "Hang on." John said then handed Chris a different gun. He then pressed a button behind him then another statue was elevated. "Squeeze a few off."

Chris nodded then fired off a few shots. His eyes widened a bit as he saw a strange gold liquid stripping from where the bullets impacted.

"Eject the clip and take a look."

Chris did just that then smirked. "You copied the bullets the Phoenixes used. Liquefied gold nitrate." He said.

"With a lethal dosage in each round."

"Unlike our usual ones, they won't be able to dig these rounds out."

"Not a damn thing to dig out because these babies go straight into the bloodstream."

Chris inspected the bullet he pulled out of the magazine a bit longer before setting it down on the table. "Let me ask you something, John. Are you convinced Lena died like they say she did?"

"War story time with Kyra again?"

"That's my point. It's nothing but her ancient story. Only shred of proof she killed Lena was her word."

"Kyra's lust for advancement is something I've never underestimated, but all that matters is Vera believed her. Where are you going with this, man?"

"Nowhere."

Chris fired the gun he had at another statue several times.

Later, he broke into the mansion's archive room then kicked open another door. He found a case containing the books he was looking for, broke it then got one out. He opened it then began reading through it until he found what he was looking for.

"Of the scores of warriors who entered Lena's fortress, only the Dragon Kyra survived. She was rewarded richly for not only setting the great blaze, but for bringing back evidence of the Phoenix mistress's death: Branded skin from Lena's very arm." He read mentally before looking at the inside back cover of the book to see the branded skin then compared it to a partial picture of Lena in the book. Shortly afterwards, he left the library and happened across Ethan.

"I've been looking everywhere for you." He said.

"Not now." Chris said.

"She was bitten." Ethan said and Chris turned to him. "Your human was marked by a Phoenix."

Chris crossed his arms. "Were you put up to this by Kyra?"

"I swear I saw the bite with my own eyes."

Chris sighed then walked away.

"You know it's forbidden by the Covenant!" Ethan called out

After taking a hot shower, Chris wrote the name Vera into the mirror before wiping it away to show his face.

"Forgive me, please, but I'm in desperate need of your guidance." He said.

Later, after tricking the Dragon operating the terminal, he opened both sets of doors to the throne room then walked to where Vera's tomb was, unlocked the hatch, revealing the statue of a woman with her mouth open. Chris then turned to casket horizontal.

"No one like myself has attempted an Awakening, as far as I know. Only the Elders can organize their thoughts on a single vision, providing a detailed record of their reign. All I can do is hope Vera hears my plea." Chris's voice narrated as he pressed a button and moved a tube for his blood to Vera's mouth then but his wrist and held it over an opening to allow the blood into Vera's mouth. Through the chaos of his memories, Chris addressed Vera.

"Forgive me, please, but I'm in desperate need of your guidance. You have my apologies for breaking the chain and waking you before your time, but I fear we may be in danger. Especially you if left in your weakened state, my lady. For I am convinced that Lena still lives. Here and now in this city, preparing to attack tomorrow night during the Awakening. But even more disturbing, if I am correct, is that Kyra is in league with her." He said.

He then moved her casket behind her throne and set up tubes and blood bags to help her regain her strength. Sasha stopped by and opened the thicker doors when she saw no one in the control room. Chris hid so he wouldn't be spotted. When he left the room a minute later, he heard Blake's voice.

"Let me speak with Chris!" She said.

He walked to the control room and saw Blake at the front gate.

"That's Blake?" Kyra asked venomously. "Is it?!"

"What is happening to me?!"

Chris pressed a button. "I'm on my way." He said then moved to leave.

"Go to her, and you will not be welcome in this house again." Kyra threatened.

Chris just looked at her. "We'll see what Vera has to say about that now that she's awake." He said.

Kyra paled as he walked away.

He drove to the gate then stopped beside her. "Get in." He said.

Once she did, he drove off.

"If you come here again, they'll kill you." He said.

"Why would they do that? Who are you guys?"

Chris looked at her shoulder and saw the bite then sighed.

"Like it or not, you're in a war that's been raging for over a thousand years. A blood feud between Dragons and Phoenixes. Firebirds."

She thought back to the shootout.

"Be lucky. Most humans have only an hour to live after being bitten by an Immortal. The viruses we carry are deadly."

"Would I become like you instead if you bit me?"

"Nobody has survived a bite from both species, so you'd die. By all rights, I'd kill you here and now once I stop this car."

"Then why help me?!"

"I'm not helping you! I hunt and kill your brethren. I'm only interested in finding out what Lena wants from you so badly."

He kept driving until they were in the city.
