Out of an abundance of caution, Grey advised that the officers and their families from Mid-Wilshire stay in the hotel Aaron's parents had graciously paid for for a few days. Lucy texted Tamara as soon as she could that they were getting checked out at the hospital and then they'd get to the hotel right afterwards. Tamara sent back a slightly panicked text, and Lucy assured her that she and Tim were both fine. Tim and Lucy leaned against each other in the elevator and waved at James as they both stumbled to their room. It took a few tries to get the key card in the door because their hands were shaking thanks to pure adrenaline but Tamara ended up opening the door for them first. She took one look at them and gasped. "What happened to you?" she asked as she pushed them towards the other bed.
"We took on a few guys by ourselves," Lucy explained as she face planted into the bed.
Tim face planted right next to her with a groan. "Fuck," he muttered.
A frantic, worried Tamara hovered over them. "Do you need me to get you anything? Are you hungry? I can order room service - Aaron's parents are apparently paying for everything."
"We'll eat once we wake up - we haven't slept in days, Tam. As soon as we got home - this morning, I think? - we got the call that John and Bailey had been 's been a long few days. Does anyone know how long?" Lucy mumbled into the pillow.
"We'll be fine, kiddo. Just need some sleep for now and we'll deal with our injuries whenever we wake up. Relax and have fun." He would have suggested that Tamara baby-sit Leah and Lila for a little while but he didn't think Nyla, James, and Donovan would let the girls out of their sight. Then he remembered his sister and nephews. "Have you seen Genny and the boys at all?"
Tamara nodded before realizing they couldn't see her. "Yeah, they're in the next room. Want me to go get them?"
"No, we can wait. Just as long as they're fine and uninjured. Thanks, Tamara," Tim mumbled.
"You're welcome. Get some sleep, I'm right here."
Lucy smiled. "You protecting us now, Tam?"
"Hell yeah! I'll just go hang out with everybody else, leave you alone for now." Tamara departed the room, the door clicking shut as Tim and Lucy finally drifted off to sleep.
When they woke up several hours later, they were a little disoriented and definitely stiff. "Fuck me," Lucy whispered as she tried to get up and couldn't. She rolled over to face Tim.
"Later," he joked as he managed to pull himself up to a sitting position. He groaned in pain. "Fucking hell." His throat was killing him, and all he wanted to do was go back to sleep. However, Tim grabbed Lucy's hand and pulled her into a sitting position too.
She hissed in pain. "So we're never leaving this bed ever again, right? I don't want to move."
"I think we have to, Luce."
"We should get somebody in here to help us, huh? Not Tamara, though, because I don't want to worry her." Lucy grabbed her phone and texted Nyla for immediate assistance.
Although Nyla didn't have the key card for their room, she managed to make up a white lie to convince Tamara to borrow hers because she only needed it to check on Tim and Lucy, to update them on the latest. When Nyla entered the room, she took one look at them and recoiled. "How bad is it?" Tim questioned.
"It probably looks worse than it is?" Nyla tried but they weren't buying it. She helped them both out of bed and from there, they made it to the bathroom on their own. Nyla dropped their clothes - packed in suitcases, courtesy of Tamara - in the bathroom and then waited on the bed for them to finish up. Tim and Lucy were both slow moving but felt marginally better as they finished showering and came back into the room.
"Tamara's going to freak out more than she did last night," Lucy surmised.
"She's just worried about you. She'll relax once she knows you two weren't hurt more than you're saying," Nyla assured her. She wanted to hug them but held back.
Tim texted Genny to let her know she could come over while Lucy sent off a quick text to Tamara to let her know she could come back in. "I'm starving. We should probably order some room service now. How are Aaron and Celina?"
"A nurse at the hospital tried to kill Aaron. He's fine, he coded for a few minutes before they brought him back, but there's extra security at the hospital now as a precaution. And that is why we're staying here for several days" Nyla grinned at them as a knock on the door interrupted the conversation.
Tamara, Genny, and the boys came bursting in when Nyla opened the door. Tim and Lucy plastered fake smiles on their faces but it didn't exactly work too well since Genny's mouth dropped open. "Holy shit. It looks like you two went ten rounds in the boxing ring and lost. How badly are you hurt? Easy on the hugs," she murmured to the boys.
The boys looked unsure but they hugged Tim and Lucy anyway. "We've been playing games for hours," Tamara explained to them.
"The boys are enjoying their unexpected hotel trip. Real big fans." Genny grinned at them before she started fussing over both Tim and Lucy.
"I'm getting back to my family and then heading into work but we'll talk later." Nyla waved goodbye and then left.
"We're ready to order room service now?" Tamara checked. Lucy nodded, and the two of them sat down to look over the menu.
"I'm sorry you guys had to come here but we were worried," Tim told his sister.
"Tim, it's fine. The situation at your station is terrifying, and I'm glad you took down the bad guys. We feel safer here. And Kojo's with the dog sitter so you don't have to worry about him. Everything will go back to normal in a few days, hopefully." Genny patted his back.
They ordered room service and then waited impatiently for their food to arrive. "Aunt Lucy, want to play a game with us?" Tyler asked.
Lucy let out a gasp before glancing up at Tim and Genny. "Aunt Lucy," she mouthed excitedly.
Tim gave her a thumbs up. "Aunt Lucy," he mouthed back, beaming at her.
"Are you guys fine with me staying with you tonight?" Tamara checked.
"We absolutely want you to stay with us tonight, Tam. You're stuck with us," Lucy teased.
Tamara sighed in relief. "Good. I'm taking care of you two whether you like it or not," she declared, daring them to fight her on this.
They wisely decided not to and hugged Tamara instead. Tim and Lucy exchanged a few quick kisses, earning eye rolls from the others, just as the food arrived. "Love you," he murmured.
"Love you, too." God, Lucy would never get tired of telling him that (he felt the exact same way about her).
This wasn't the end of the situation - Aaron had a long road ahead of him and Mid-Wilshire was still in the direct line of the fire - but Tim and Lucy had each other and their family, found and otherwise, and they'd all get through it together.
