" Welcome to Hogwarts Everyone! A warm welcome back to those of our returning Students. Hope you're ready for a fun —hopefully uneventful..and magical year!"
Boomed the voice of an Older woman through the overhead speakers, her voice sounded cheerful and yet also already tired.
Hundreds of students filed onto campus carrying luggage, books, some had their own familiars even. Excited chatter filled the school halls as students prepared to return to their House CommonRooms or for the newer students to be sorted into their houses.
"Into the Dining hall Everybody! Come along, no dawdling! You'll have time to chatter later!" Hollered the Headmistress.
Most students obediently followed her directions while others lingered in the halls somewhat longer, searching for their friends to stay together.
A sudden silence befell the halls, so suddenly that those who continued chattering looked over awkwardly to see why everyone had stopped in their tracks. There at the entrance to the school, stood a tall, pale, young man with icy blue-grey eyes and platinum blonde hair that looked almost white.
The boy clenched his fists and glared daggers at those who stared as he passed by. Once he passed the talking continued across the halls once more, in the form of whispers.
"Did you see that?"
"How dare he show his face here again.."
"Traitor."
"Death Eater."
"He's the reason Headmaster Dumbledore is Dead!"
"Such a shame..Malfoy was once an exceptional Student."
"Careful he might kill you if he hears you!"
"Oh I hope I don't get sorted into the Slytherin House! I'd hate to be in the same dorms as him.."
"He's so Scary.."
"Do you reckon he'll go evil again?"
The blonde bared his teeth and lowered his head unable to retaliate. He had made many mistakes, and they'd finally come back to haunt him.
" Oh enough with the Gossip! Get going everyone!" A girl shouted irritably, shutting everyone else up and making them scurry away to the dining hall.
"Defending Malfoy now are ya? I thought you liked Ron, got a thing for bad boys or something?" The Ginger beside her asked.
"Heavens no Ginny! You'd catch me dead before I ever even befriended that spoiled, vile, son of a Git!" The brunette growled, shooting a glare at the blonde from across the hall, although for a second it faltered as she noticed how lonely he looked among all the other students...walking alone.
"Then why shoo everyone off?" Questioned Ginny, looking at her curiously.
"It's simply a matter of keeping everyone calm. Malfoy is too stupid to make another attempt like the last not to mention all he is, is a spoiled bully. He was too scared to kill anyone, he's no villain." Hermione huffed, chewing on her lip and spinning around. "Now come on Ginny let's go to the Dining Hall. Oughta find Harry and Ron there."
Both girls rushed off, the mostly empty hallway allowing their footsteps to echo throughout the hall until they all but faded away.
Once the footsteps echoed away the blonde stopped and looked back. He felt a number of emotions flood him—inexplicable ones. "Tch, filthy Mudblood .." he muttered, mostly out of confusion. Why did he feel..regret? Disappointment? Lonely? The urge to walk over and argue with the brunette was overbearing as always—but different this time.
" Oi Draco! Cmon mate we'll be late!" A voice called out to him.
He froze and looked over to see one of his closest friends before the war..Blaise. Draco looked at him in shock, he'd thought that everyone in all of Hogwarts would completely despise him after what he did. A flood of relief filled him, he'd never admit it but he was somewhat happy not to be completely alone.
"Whats the point of going? They'll just go quiet and stare at me" he scoffed, staying still as Blaise walked over to him and smacked him on the back.
"So? When has anyone's opinion of you ever stopped you?" He asked Draco.
"Never." He responded, the corners of his mouth lifting into a smirk.
"Attaboy." Blaise grinned, offering him a fist bump Draco (secretly) gladly took.
The two were of the last to enter the dining hall, Draco was right—people did stare. He tried his best to ignore them, his eyes wandering the halls until they landed on the brunette from earlier—she had her hand intertwined with a red heads, smiling up at him brightly.
A wave of anger filled him, he couldn't fathom how such a person like Ronald Weasley could ever attract such a pretty know-it-all mudblood. MudBlood. He shook his head erasing the thought. "Not pretty at all." He muttered under his breath as he and Blaise found a spot at the edge of the Slytherin Table.
"Sorry, what was that?" Blaise asked, just barely catching what he said.
"N-Nothing, just talking to myself." He muttered.
Blaise smirked at his friend, glancing from Hermione to Draco and back. "So, after defending you she's caught your attention huh?" He teased.
"Of course not. She's nothing but a know-it-all MudBlood in my eyes." Draco Spat.
"Sure, Sure. Whatever you say." Blaise laughed.
"I'm serious Blaise." Draco Growled.
"I know." Blaise shrugged. "You think I'm an idiot? You two have hated each others guts for almost a decade, i doubt you'll ever even be friends."
"Exactly. Not like anyone would WANT to be friends with her anyway." He scoffed, he ignored the disappointment that made its way into him.
"Well...I wouldn't go that far but yeah, sure." Blaise shrugged.
"Alright Students simmer down! It's time for the new students to be sorted into their houses!" Called Headmistress McGonagall while tapping a fork on her glass.
On cue the dining hall went silent as students directed their attention to the front, where the teachers stood surrounding the podium in which the sorting hat lay.
The sorting hat quickly and efficiently sorted the first years into their new houses—putting on quite a show for them as it yelled
"Gryffindor!!"
"Hufflepuff!!"
"RavenClaw!!"
"Slytherin!!"
Excited whispers and giggles once more filled the hall before the headmistress silenced everyone once more.
"Sorry, sorry, we're not quite done yet! We've got a special case this year, a transferee!!" She announced eagerly.
"A transfer student? I didn't know Hogwarts did that.." whispered Ron.
" Well—we've never had a transfer before so guess we just never got the chance to find out." Harry shrugged.
"Hey Mione did you know?" Ginny asked, knowing Hermione had a vast knowledge about many things.
Hermione shook her head in response, "I mean—I never really thought about it. So, no not really."
Professor McGonagalls eyes met Draco's. She looked at him sympathetically before announcing..
" Isla Malfoy." She called out.
