" Isla Malfoy."
"Malfoy?!"
"This must be a mistake Mal— Draco is an only child." Hermione whispered.
"Draco has a sister..?"
"Why didn't anyone know about this?"
"Do you think she'll be evil like him?"
"Did he know about this?"
"What year is she in?"
Curious and surprised chatter once again erupted throughout the Dining Hall. Everything went silent however, when a small girl of about 5'2 in height stood from her seat and nervously walked up to the front.
The girl had ashy blonde hair, like Draco's it seemed almost white, reaching halfway down her back with a soft, wavy texture. Her eyes gleamed, an icy silver-blue, brighter than his.
Draco stood in disbelief. "Malfoy?! What is the meaning of this I don't have any siblings or cousins—or—" he began but he was quickly hushed by the headmistress.
"Draco please, I promise all will be explained in due time, for now let us proceed with the sorting!" McGonagall stated softly.
"I recon she'll be a Slytherin." One student called out.
"I dunno..she seems soft unlike Mal—Draco. Maybe a Hufflepuff?" One other interjected.
"No, she has very nice blue eyes. The RavenClaw uniform would suit her best."
"Oh but imagine the drama if she ended up in Gryffindor!"
" Come now dear, just sit there and place the hat upon your head." McGonagall urged her gently.
Without a word the blonde did as she was told.
"Modest, Fair, Kind, Hard-Working, and patient... rather smart but a bit on the Timid side..mhm, yup." The hat contemplated loudly.
"HUFFLEPUFF" it hollered.
Cheers and congratulatory shouts filled the hall, but as quickly as they arose they faded away and students quickly filed out. They gossiped about the new arrival while excitedly heading to their new CommonRooms.
"Draco, Isla. I think it's time we go for a talk." Headmistress McGonagall nodded for the two to follow her.
"Yes I'd like an explanation." Draco growled, quickly pacing behind them and shooting a glare at Isla.
"Patience Mr Malfoy." Warned the headmistress.
The trio walked off towards the headmistresses office, unbeknownst to them—another couple of students needed their curiosity quenched.
"Harry—quick let's grab your invisibility cloak!" Urged Hermione.
"What? Why?" Harry asked.
"Well—aren't you curious? About the new girl?" She asked.
"Why should we care? She's another Malfoy for heavens sake Hermione. She's affiliated or—will be soon—with Draco of all people." Ron scoffed.
"Oh come on! Didn't you see how surprised Draco himself was?! We have to find out who she is!" Hermione pleaded.
"I'm with Mione on this one!" Chirped Ginny, she grabbed Harry's arm and looked into his eyes with big round eyes, begging him to comply.
"Alright, Alright fine." He gave in. "Wait here, I'll go fetch it." He sighed, running off.
"You're all crazy" Ron muttered, with an exasperated sigh he turned and walked after Harry. " You guys go on I'll be in the common room!"
Hermione waved him off and turned back to Ginny who looked at her flabbergasted. "What?" She asked.
"You're letting him go? Just like that?" She asked.
"Well, he doesn't want to come." Hermione shrugged.
"But—" Ginny started, however was interrupted by a returning Harry.
'You guys are always together, everywhere you go. Usually you'd put up more of a fight to get him to come. strange.' Ginny finished her thoughts.
"Alright, I got it. Let's go." Harry nodded, grabbing Ginny by the waist and pulling her close to him. Hermione joined them and the trio made their way up to the Headmistresses office.
" Draco...Isla, I'm sorry to be the one to have to break this news to you. I'm aware this may be a lot but please bare with me." McGonagall said softly.
"Just get to the point." Draco said impatiently. "Please." He added the last part attempting to mind his manners, he didn't need a worse reputation than he already had.
Isla stared at Draco quizzically like she was trying to put together the pieces of a puzzle. 'Who are you' she thought to herself.
" Draco, Isla, you two are in fact—Siblings." She revealed. Two sets of gasps were heard—one from Isla, and one from behind them?
The headmistresses head snapped up, " Who's there? Reveal yourself." She demanded firmly.
An embarrassed brunette slipped out from under the invisibility cloak, her cheeks a rosy pink as she fiddled with her fingers ashamed to have been caught. Soon after her, a ginger and another brunette revealed themselves.
"Granger, Weaslette, and Potter?" Scoffed Draco.
"Eavesdropping you three? I am very disappointed. That will be 20 points from Gryffindor for each of you. I'll be seeing you in detention tomorrow." Growled McGonagall. " now off you go! This is none of your concern." She shooed them off.
The three started to leave, Hermione specifically, hung her head low and bit her lip looking disappointed.
"Wait. Let her stay."
Everyone turned to look at who'd spoken; Draco. All except Isla looked confused, and curious.
"Her?" McGonagall questioned, waiting for Draco to tell her who she was.
"Er— Granger, I mean." He somewhat stammered. ' why the hell did I just say that?' He mentally slapped himself. "Uh..this is a lot to process so y'know..having someone else here might help us—particularly Isla maybe... process better?" He said, trying to convince himself mostly. ' Yep, great excuse Draco...Idiot.'
Isla remained silent, only a soft smile graced her lips as she watched the exchange between Draco and the headmistress as he tried to cover up his slip up.
Harry and Ginny exchanged confused glances while Hermione forced down a smile that tried to escape her control.
"Very Well then, Harry, Ginny—return to your Common Room. Hermione, you shall stay here and accompany Draco and Isla." The headmistress ordered.
" Cya later Mione!" Cooed Ginny as they began to leave. She shot a glare at Draco and mouthed, ' don't you try anything funny, I'm watching you.' Motioning with her fingers at her eyes and then at him
Draco scowled at her before sitting down on the couch Isla was on, he sat on the edge leaving room in the middle for Hermione to sit. ' wait, what the hell am I doing?'
Hermione shuffled over awkwardly taking the seat left open to her. It was a little intimidating sitting beside two Malfoy's. They had many similarities making it a bit—overbearing, considering her hostile relationship with the man sitting to her right.
"Alright, now explain how the hell I suddenly have a sister." Draco said bluntly.
" I was hidden so that Father would not raise me to be like him—as you were..." Isla spoke out of no where, a sad and guilty look on her face.
"What?" Draco, was legitimately finding this hard to process. He felt a surge of emotions, anger, confusion, disbelief, betrayal. A flood of questions streamed through his mind.
If she was hidden why wasn't he?
Why did his mother choose to protect her and not him?
Why was she back now?
Was she a threat?
What was he meant to do?
Be happy?
Embrace his lost sister?
"It's as Isla says. You were too young to remember, you were merely 2. You see, at the time your father was away often, he had been away for months without contact and wasn't even aware your mother was expecting little Isla. When she was born, she was very small and frail—unlike you who was naturally clever and fit from a young age.
Isla clung to her mother, she was timid as she grew and didn't have the bold and confident personality traits Malfoys tend to carry as your father says. Once your mother got word that your father would return, she knew he would never accept little Isla as she was—and if by chance he did, she knew he would make her work for the Dark Lord one day, something she likely wouldn't survive, at least not without being broken first.
So she did the only thing she could do at the time. She completely hid Islas existence from your father, and in turn, from you as well. She erased any sign that Isla ever existed, obliviating the memory of anyone who had met her, including herself. Your parents—everyone truly believed you were an only child.
Your mother sent Isla away with her nanny to be raised elsewhere, providing enough funds for them to live comfortably and get Isla into a good school for wizards when she got older. The only ones left with knowledge of her existence were Islas Nanny, Snape, and I. We fell out of touch with them until Isla came to find us..." Headmistress McGonagall took a deep breath as if giving that long explanation to both Isla and Draco lifted a weight off her shoulders.
Draco opened his mouth to speak but no words ever left his lips. He was visibly shook by the news that he had a sister. He had thought this would be some kind of joke— a fake trying to get in on the Malfoys Wealth, but it seems too serious—too genuine to be the case.
" I..had no idea about my background, or about you. Not until.." Islas voice wavered and she took a shaky breath, her eyes watering. " My mo— my Nanny," she corrected herself. " she got very Ill and passed away 2 months ago..she told me the truth before passing and asked me to find you now that the war was over and Father was put away."
Draco's heart sank, the realization dawned on him that Isla was probably just as confused as he was if not more. She lost the woman she believed to be her mother and found out her real family either didn't remember her or didn't even know about her. He bounced his leg anxiously, lifting his hand to his face and running it down from his forehead to his chin with a groan. ' what a headache'
