It was starting to become a habit, running into Max. It was always at random, he didn't do anything creepy like wait for her on street corners or enquire her schedule and she wasn't inclined to give him that. Truth be told, Miranda was glad of the rest. She thought she'd be climbing the walls out of boredom but being paid to spend her time with uncomplicated individuals who needed very little in return, suited her just fine at this point, they didn't whisper behind her back or 'forget' to invite her to parties. The dogs were simple creatures and they offered free of charge unawkward cuddling. Her favourite dog was the first one she'd met, the cranky lady whose pet had escaped and had joined Miranda in the supermarket. She'd delivered the dog back to her owner and had been given the job of walking her everyday for a moderate sum. Ura was a funny looking creature with pointed foxy ears and snout and long haired fluff that made her look like she'd stuck her paw in an electric socket. She was very soft to stroke. She'd taken a liking to Miranda, trotting along and looking up at her on their walks. Secretly, Miranda was happy about it. The invites from dog owners snowballed from there and although Miranda had warned them it was a temporary thing, the offers kept coming and Miranda started to feel accomplished, guiding a team of dogs around town. It beat sitting at home and being angry. Sometimes she talked to them. Particularly Ura. The hound pricked up her ears and stared at her as if she understood. Miranda gave her more attention than the others. Found herself wishing that Ura would come home with her and keep her company.
In the meantime, there was Max. He had stopped trying to flirt with her and just continued being irritating but without the buffer of the office, she'd started to appreciate his chatter. Urgh, who was she right now?
