Chapter 1: A New Beginning
Ryan Atwood had never been one to believe in fate or destiny, but as he stood in front of the Cohen's grand Newport Beach mansion, he couldn't help but wonder if maybe there was something to it after all. He had been taken in by the Cohens just a few months earlier, after being kicked out of his own home in Chino, and he was still getting used to the idea of living in such a luxurious and privileged neighborhood.
As he stepped inside the house, he was greeted by the familiar sight of Seth Cohen, his nerdy and lovable new best friend, and Seth's parents, Sandy and Kirsten Cohen. But there was something else there that caught his eye: a girl, sitting on the couch with a scowl on her face.
"Ryan, this is Summer Roberts," Seth said, gesturing to the girl. "Summer, this is Ryan, the guy I've been telling you about."
Ryan looked at her, taking in her long blonde hair and bright blue eyes, and felt his heart skip a beat. He had never been one for romance or relationships, but something about Summer intrigued him.
"Nice to meet you," he said, holding out his hand.
Summer ignored his gesture, instead giving him a dismissive glance before turning back to Seth. "So, are we going to the party or what?"
Seth rolled his eyes. "Yes, Summer, we're going. Ryan, you're coming with us, right?"
Ryan nodded, feeling a strange mix of nervousness and excitement. He had never been to a Newport Beach party before, and he had a feeling this one was going to be a wild ride.
As they drove to the party, Ryan found himself stealing glances at Summer in the backseat. She seemed so confident and self-assured, while he still felt like an outsider in this world of wealthy and privileged kids. But something about her made him feel like maybe he could fit in after all.
The party was everything Ryan had imagined it would be: loud, crowded, and filled with alcohol and drugs. He tried to stick close to Seth and Summer, but they quickly got separated in the chaos. Ryan found himself wandering through the house, feeling lost and alone, until he stumbled upon a room where Summer was sitting on a bed, staring at her phone.
"Hey," he said, stepping inside.
Summer looked up, surprised to see him. "Oh, it's you. What are you doing in here?"
"I got separated from Seth," Ryan explained. "I was just looking for him."
Summer rolled her eyes. "Typical Seth. Well, you can hang out here with me if you want. I'm not really in the mood for this party anyway."
Ryan sat down next to her, feeling a rush of adrenaline as he realized this was his chance to get to know her better. As they talked, he found himself opening up to her in a way he never had with anyone else. She listened to him, really listened, and he felt like she understood him in a way that no one else ever had.
As the night wore on, the party started to wind down and people started to leave. Ryan and Summer found themselves alone in the room, talking quietly and laughing together. And then, without warning, she leaned in and kissed him.
It was like a bolt of lightning, a shock to his system that left him dizzy and breathless. He had never felt anything like it before, and he knew in that moment that he was in trouble.
Because as much as he tried to deny it, he was falling in love with Summer Roberts. And he had a feeling that his life was never going to be the same again.
