Chapter 4: The Green-Eyed Monster
Despite their efforts to remain just friends, Ryan couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy when Summer started dating a guy named Zach.
He tried to push the feeling to the side, telling himself that he had no right to feel possessive over her. After all, they were just friends, right?
But every time he saw them together, laughing and holding hands, he felt a sense of anger and sadness that he couldn't quite shake.
One night, they were all at a party together, and Ryan found himself watching Zach with a critical eye. He was tall and muscular, with sandy blonde hair and a winning smile. Ryan couldn't help but feel like he was everything that he wasn't.
As the night wore on, Ryan found himself getting more and more frustrated. He tried to talk to Summer, but she was too busy flirting with Zach to pay him any attention.
Eventually, he decided to leave, feeling like he couldn't take it anymore. But as he was walking out, Summer caught up to him.
"Hey, where are you going?" she asked, sounding concerned.
"I don't know. I just... I need some air," he said, feeling like he was about to explode.
Summer looked at him for a moment, her expression softening. "Is this about Zach?"
Ryan hesitated for a moment, unsure of how to answer. But then he decided to be honest.
"Yeah, I guess it is. I don't know why I feel like this, but I can't help it. I just don't like seeing you with him."
Summer looked at him for a moment, her eyes searching his face. And then she did something unexpected. She leaned in and kissed him, her lips soft and warm against his.
For a moment, Ryan felt like he was in a dream. He had wanted this for so long, but he had never expected it to happen.
But then Summer pulled away, looking at him with a sad expression. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that. I don't want to hurt Zach, and I don't want to ruin our friendship."
Ryan nodded, feeling a sense of disappointment wash over him. He knew that she was right, but he couldn't help but feel like he had missed his chance.
As he walked away, he realized that he was more confused than ever. He didn't know what he wanted from Summer, but he knew that he couldn't keep feeling jealous and possessive. He had to figure out his feelings and decide what he wanted, once and for all.
