I don't own any characters. A Series of Unfortunate Events belongs to both Daniel Handler and Netflix. Black Widow belongs to both Disney and the MCU.
It was a bright day in Budapest, Hungary and it's people went about their business as usual. They were so engrossed in their own lives that they didn't notice a black car being driven by a local driver going pass them. Inside the car was an African-American man named Mr. Poe and next to him were 3 children named Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire. Violet, the eldest was 14. Klaus, the middle child was 12 and Sunny, the youngest, was still a baby.
"I can't believe that our new guardian lives all the way in Hungary of all places." Klaus muttered to himself in complete and utter bewilderment.
"Yes and the fact that your parents chose her to be your new guardian vexes me so." Mr. Poe agreed before he changed the subject with "Still, I must obey your parents wishes."
Yeah, but at least Olaf and his troupe will have a very hard time finding us. Klaus thought to himself.
However, before he could continue to dwell on the matter, the driver called out "We're here."
Klaus blinked as the car pulled up to an apartment building and stopped. It was a nice white apartment building, but it also looked like it had been around for a long time, before the Baudelaire parents were even born.
As Violet, Klaus and Sunny got out of the car, Mr. Poe said "I'm afraid that I must leave you now children. I'm sorry, but I have my own family to get back to."
Violet, Klaus and Sunny were mad at Mr. Poe for dropping them off in a country where they didn't speak the language and they didn't know anyone there.
However, Violet hid her anger and simply said "I understand, but can you tell us the apartment number again?"
Mr. Poe just pulled out a pen and notepad before he wrote down the apartment number. Soon after, he handed it to Violet and bid her and her siblings farewell with "Good luck and bye."
As the Baudelaires stared at the car driving off into the distance, Klaus looked at Violet and said, "It is just me or has Mr. Poe got a lot more careless towards us?"
"I don't think it's you." Violet sadly replied as she adjusted Sunny in her arms before looking back at the note. The note read that the apartment number was 121 on the third floor. With that, Violet, Klaus and Sunny took a deep breath and silently went into an elevator that was already occupied by a pretty red head woman with blue eyes.
As the elevator began to rise, the woman turned to look at the children and said something in Hungarian before switching to French and then asked "English?"
"We're from America." Klaus said.
"You know you really shouldn't wander Hungary by yourselves. Where are your parents?" The red head inquired.
A sad look appeared on Violet's face as she answered, "Our parents are dead."
An equally sad look quickly appeared on the pretty redhead's face as she replied, "I'm so sorry."
Then, she changed the subject with "But what are you doing here all the way in Hungary?"
"Our new guardian lives here and she's in this building." Klaus answered.
"What's the guy's name?" The pretty redhead asked.
"Actually our guardian's a woman and her name is Natasha." Violet interjected.
"Do you know what she looks like?" The pretty redhead asked as she tried to keep her voice steady.
"No, but we've been told that our parents helped her and some guy named Hawkeye out a lot during their days as S.H.E.L.I.D. agents." Violet replied.
Then, before Violet knew what was happening, she was suddenly pinned against the wall of the elevator by the pretty redhead as she demanded "Who are you and who do you work for?"
"Are you guys a part of the red room?" She added before she continued with "No, it's not their style to bring in boys and girls that are as young as your sister."
Then, the pretty redhead questioned "Are you guys really related to each other?"
"Yes!" Both Violet and Klaus cried out in terror as Sunny bit the pretty redhead's hand.
The woman let out a cry of pain but didn't let go of Violet even when Sunny drew blood. Klaus quickly stepped in and began to kick and punch any part of the woman that he could get at. This time, she let go of Violet just as the elevator door opened.
With that, the Baudelaires ran for their lives as they tried to remember the apartment number of their new guardian. Violet stopped at a door that read 121 and said "This is it."
Soon after, all 3 Baudelaires began to bang on the door like crazy and scream "Help Natasha! Help! There's a crazy redhead after us!"
Then, the voice of the pretty redhead let out a laugh as she said, "You guys are just normal American kids, aren't you?"
"Yes! Please don't kill us!" Both Violet and Klaus cried out in terror.
"I'm not going to kill you guys, but you better step away from the front door." The pretty redhead explained.
"Why? Give us a good reason." Klaus demanded as Violet placed Sunny in his arms before she stepped in front of her younger siblings.
"Because I'm Natasha and I think there's been some kind of mix up." The pretty redhead explained.
As soon as she uttered those words, Violet, Klaus and Sunny felt their jaws drop. Sunny was the first one to regain herself as she muttered "Gee-wop." Which meant "Oh great, we have another guardian that wants to hurt us."
However, Natasha's next words took them by surprise as she said "I am so sorry for the misunderstanding. I'm not going to hurt you guys and I'm going to tell an old friend to do the same."
With that, she switched to Russian and began to talk to someone. A female voice replied back in Russian before the front door was opened and the group was greeted by a pretty Russian blonde woman with pale skin and gray blue eyes. She had a gun in her hands, however as soon as she saw Violet, Klaus and Sunny, she lowered her gun and ushered the group inside.
The blonde-haired woman said something to Natasha in Russian before Natasha replied back to her in the same language.
As they continued to talk in Russian, Sunny looked at Klaus and asked "Ge wa?"
Which meant "What are they saying?"
"I don't know, I don't speak Russian." Klaus replied back before he added "And I can't read in it either."
Then, Natasha and the blonde woman stopped talking in Russian before they turned to face the Baudelaires as the blonde woman switched to English and said "I didn't know I'm now an Aunt."
"What?" Violet and Klaus uttered in confusion before Violet took the lead and said ""Let me get this straight, you're Natasha, our new guardian and you have a sister? Who is she and why were you trying to kill us?"
Natasha let out a sigh as she said "Look, I think there's been a misunderstanding on both of our ends. I can't be your new guardian, I'm an international criminal now."
"What?!" Both Violet and Klaus uttered in shock before Violet vowed "I'm going to kill Mr. Poe one of these days."
No sooner had she uttered those words, a bomb went off and Sunny began to cry in fear as the Blonde woman and Natasha forced the Baudelaires down the ground.
"Keep that baby of yours quiet and do as we say if you guys want to live." Natasha ordered right away.
"Who are these people?" Klaus wondered.
"My past, finally catching up to me." Natasha muttered in a grim tone as she held out her arms for Sunny.
Not sure what to make of Natasha, but still willing to trust her experience on crazy situations like this very one, Violet handed over Sunny to her and prayed that she didn't make a huge mistake.
The blonde-haired woman grabbed Klaus in her arms as she said "My name is Yelena. What's your name?"
Klaus was stunned for a moment, but before he had a chance to reply, another woman in a black suit came through the front door, charging at the group.
"I'll ask again, but for now, run!" Yelena quickly added.
With that, both Natasha and Yelena grabbed Violet and Klaus as they jumped out of the window and onto a large pipe. Violet, Klaus and Sunny all screamed. Natasha and Yelena tried to calm them down, but then Sunny began to cry, and Natasha covered her mouth as just the assassin chased after them. Panicking, Sunny bit Natasha's hand so hard that it began to bleed. However, she didn't let go and Sunny began to have difficulty breathing.
"Let her go! You're killing her!" Both Violet and Klaus cried out at once.
"Her cries could give us away." Natasha pointed out.
"Give her to me! I'm the oldest. I can keep her quiet." Violet pleaded.
Natasha looked torn, but Yelena interjected on Violet's behalf with "How can I call you 'sister' if you kill another child's sister?"
Natasha wanted to say something but thought better of it as she uncovered Sunny's mouth and handed her back to Violet. Sunny soon buried herself in her older sister's shoulder. However, the moment of relief didn't last long as the female assassin attacked them.
Natasha called out "Yelena, get these kids to safety! I'll deal with her!"
As Yelena led the Baudelaires away, she asked "How did you kids get mixed up in all of this? I thought that Drakov only picked girls for his spies?"
"Who's Drakov?" Klaus wondered.
"You really don't know anything do you?" Yelena realized.
Oh, now you get it. Violet thought to herself with heavy irony.
Then, she quickly was pulled out of her head as Yelena led them away from a bomb!
Sunny began to cry in fear, while both Violet and Klaus did their best to keep her calm.
Once Sunny had calmed down, Klaus turned to Yelena and asked, "Can you tell us who these people are and why they are after you and Natasha?"
Yelena let out a sad sigh as she answered, "Ever since we were little girls, we were a part of this spy program called the 'red room'. We were trained to kill from a very young age. However, we did have a taste of a normal life in America for 3 years." Yelena paused as she smiled at the memory before she continued with "It was nice, until the mission ended, and we had to go back to Russia. We were taken from each other and placed in different programs within the red room."
"How did you manage to find Natasha again?" Violet wondered.
"To be honest, I wasn't expecting her to return to her old place. I just sent her the brainwashing antidote for safekeeping, I didn't think she would come back here." Yelena confessed.
As she finished speaking, Violet, Klaus and Sunny looked at each other and silently vowed to give Mr. Poe a piece of their minds the next time that they saw him.
Then, they were pulled out of their heads as they heard Yelena ask "How do you guys know Natasha and what were you doing here?"
Klaus took over with "Actually, we don't know her, but our Mom and Dad did and they left us in her care."
Yelena gave the Baudelaires a look of confusion as she asked "Why would anyone put you guys in her care after what she's done?"
A look of confusion and fear soon appeared on all 3 Baudelaires' faces as Violet asked, "What did she do?"
Yelena gave them a look as she replied, "I'm guessing that you guys don't watch the news very much do?"
"What did she do?" Violet asked again.
Yelena let out a sigh and said, "She went against the Sakovia accords and now she is on the run."
Klaus let out a gasp as he uttered "Those are the accords meant to prevent another disaster like Sakovia from happening again…"
Then, he changed the subject with "Why did she break them? Did she feel that her side was being mean to the superheroes that chose not to sign the accords?"
"I think so?" Yelena answered in a somewhat confused tone.
The Baudelaires felt even more frustrated with Mr. Poe than ever before. Not only had dumped them in the middle of a country where they don't speak the language, but he had placed them with an international fugitive on the run from the law!
However, before any of the Baudelaires could voice their feelings on the matter, Natasha joined the group and said, "We need to go now."
With that, the group hurried into Natasha's car and drove off.
As they drove, Yelena filled Natasha in on how the Baudelaires got involved.
When Yelena finished speaking, Natasha glanced at the Baudelaires and asked, "What were your parent's names?"
"Bernard and Beatrice Baudelaire." Violet answered.
At her words, Natasha stopped the car and fought back her tears as she replied, "I'm so sorry for your loss."
"Thanks." Both Violet and Klaus answered as Sunny nodded her head.
"You knew their parents?" Yelena asked before she mentally slapped herself as she added "Of course, you did otherwise they wouldn't have made you guardian of their kids."
Then, she added "I really am an aunt now."
Natasha rolled her eyes as she replied, "I don't know. We'll talk about this later, after we make sure that we stop Drakov and figure out what to do with the kids."
"You guys aren't going to abandon us, are you?" Violet inquired with her best puppy dog look.
Natasha felt torn, but she let out a sigh as she replied "I'm sorry, guys. I know that you need someone to look after you, but I can't do that, I'm on the run from the law, the whole world knows what I look like."
Then, she let out another sigh as she added "Still, Drakov's forces know you're with us now and as long as he and the red room are still around, the best safe place for you guys right now is with Yelena and me."
The Baudelaires and Yelena smiled at Natasha's words as Yelena added "At least, I get to be an aunt for a little while."
"You can dote on the kids after you tell me everything you know about the current state of the Red Room." Natasha pointed out.
After a short conversation in Russian, Yelena was free to take the Baudelaires shopping for whatever they wanted.
"Why don't we find a nice American restaurant for dinner? That way you guys can have a taste of home before we go on the mission to free Alexei." Yelena offered.
"Who's Alexei?" Violet wondered.
"Someone who looked after Natasha and me when we were in America." Yelena answered.
"Where is he now?" Klaus inquired.
"That's what we're going to find out." Natasha said before she added "If anyone knows where Drakov might be, its him. They were best friends."
With that, Yelena promised Natasha she would get takeout for everyone and be back as soon as possible with the kids.
Sometime later, the group enjoyed their dinner of burgers and fries and once they were finished, the Baudelaires fell asleep in the van. Sadly, their sleep came to an end when Natasha woke them up.
"We know where Alexei is. He's in prison and we're going to need a helicopter. You guys need to be on your best behavior and do exactly what me and Yelena tell you." She explained as Yelena nodded her head in agreement.
As the Baudelaires nodded their heads back in understanding, Natasha turned to Yelena and added "Look after the kids for me, I need to get a helicopter."
With that, she parked her van and walked off to meet her mysterious benefactor.
As soon as Natasha was gone, Yelena turned to the Baudelaires and asked, "What was it like?"
"What was what like?" Violet asked in confusion.
"To have parents. To have a normal life." Yelena clarified.
Violet, Klaus and Sunny exchanged sad looks with each other as they wished that they could go back to those days. Everything was so much simpler and carefree. How they would give anything to hear their parents say, "I love you" and to feel the warmth of their embrace one more time.
Then, the Baudelaires were pulled out their heads as they heard Yelena inquire "You lost your normal life too?"
"How can you tell?" Klaus questioned.
"The looks on your faces and the fact that you were sent to my sister." Yelena replied.
Violet let out a sigh as she said "It wasn't always like this. Father and Mother were loving and devoted. Even with their money, they were always there for us. They were encouraging towards our talents, and they even helped me with my inventions."
Then, Violet paused as she added "Of course, that slowed down when Sunny was born. Still, I had already been there and done that when Klaus was born."
Klaus then took over with, "I must admit I didn't like Sunny at all when she was born, but we became as thick as thieves when she was six months old."
Sunny smiled at that before a sad look appeared on her face.
"She remembers the day when Mr. Poe came to the beach and told us that our parents died." Klaus explained.
"Who's Mr. Poe?" Yelena asked.
"He's in charge of our parent's money and sadly in charge of picking out guardians for us." Klaus explained in a bitter tone.
"You mean he just left you in the middle of Hungary?" Yelena uttered in outrage.
"Yeah, that pisses me off too." Natasha added as she walked back towards the group with "We got our helicopter."
"What happens now?" Violet inquired.
"You guys are going to come with us and stay in the helicopter no matter what, as I rescue Alexi." Natasha explained.
Sometime later, the group was flying towards a gulag and Klaus couldn't help but be impressed at the sight of seeing one in real life, even though he knew that being near a prison wasn't a good thing.
Natasha gave Klaus a reassuring smile as she said, "Don't worry, I'll be back with Alexi before you guys even know it."
With that, she jumped out of the helicopter and began to fight against the guards.
As the Baudelaires watched Natasha fight, Klaus couldn't help but feel torn between feeling that this was awesome and hoping that Natasha didn't die. The Baudelaires continued to watch the fight until Natasha was out of sight. Now all they could do was wait.
Then, after what seemed like an eternity, Yelena turned to the Baudelaires and said, "Move to the front, Natasha and Alexi are coming back."
With that, Violet, Klaus and Sunny moved up to the front to make room for Natasha as she climbed back into the helicopter with Alexi.
"Yelena it's been…!" Alexi started to say, but then he noticed the Baudelaires and asked "Who are you children and what are you doing here?"
Violet introduced herself with "I'm Violet and this is Klaus and Sunny. Our parents assigned Natasha to look after us if they died and our other potential guardians couldn't do it."
"But the person in charge of their guardianship somehow missed the news that Natasha is now a fugitive from the law." Yelena muttered in frustration.
"What?" Alexi cried out in anger before he complained "What kind of idiot does that?!"
"Since we're all in agreement that the drop off guy's an idiot, let's move on to more important things." Natasha interjected as she changed the subject with "Where is Drakov?"
"Why would I know that?" Alexi inquired.
"You were his best friend." Yelena pointed out.
"You let him take us back to that horrible place and brainwash us." Natasha added.
"And he threw me in prison and left me to rot soon after." Alexi complained.
Then, suddenly a thought occurred to Alexi as he turned to Natasha and said, "But Melina might know."
"Melina's alive?" Both Natasha and Yelena uttered in shock.
"Who's Melina?" Klaus inquired.
Yelena looked at the Baudelaires as she explained "Remember when I told you about the 3 year period that Natasha and I were a family in America? Alexi was our father and Melina was our mother. When it came time to return home, she was shot, but we managed to fly the plane all the way back to Cuba. The last time we saw her, she was in an ambulance with a gunshot wound."
"Yes, and she survived it." Alexi added,
"Do you know where she is?" Natasha inquired.
Sometime later, the helicopter landed at a farm outside Saint Petersburg. As soon as they got out of the helicopter, they were greeted by a black-haired woman with a gun!
At once, Natasha shoved the Baudelaires behind her as Yelena and Alexi held up their hands and cried "It's us! It's Yelena, Natasha and Alexi!"
"And we brought company." Natasha added as she briefly stepped aside to reveal the Baudelaires.
Melina looked shocked at the sight of the children and turned to Natasha, Yelena and Alexi as she demanded "Who are these children? Why did you bring them here and what were you thinking?"
At once, Natasha explained everything as Melina led the group right into her house.
As soon as she was finished, Melina replied, "If I ever meet that idiot, I'm going to give him a piece of my mind."
"Here, Here." Natasha, Yelena and Alexi agreed.
As Melina made the group sit down at the table and started to make lunch for them, Alexi muttered "It's so nice to have the family back together again."
Then, he glanced at the Baudelaires and added "Along with some new members to boot."
As Violet, Klaus and Sunny smiled at that, Natasha suddenly interjected with "What are you talking about? It wasn't real, it was just a fun undercover assignment that we had."
"Don't say that!" Yelena suddenly pleaded. "It was real to me. You guys were the only family I had!"
Yelena glanced at Melina as she added "You were my mother!"
With that, Yelena angrily got up from her seat and stormed off.
For a long time, none of the Baudelaires said anything. They were too stunned to speak, until Violet gathered up her courage and asked, "What have you been up to all these years?"
At the young girl's words, Melina smiled as she replied, "After I got better, I've been mostly working on experiments with pigs."
"What kind of experiments?" Klaus carefully inquired even though he had a feeling that he wouldn't like the answer.
Melina smiled as she called over a pig to the table. When the pig arrived, Melina told the pig to stop breathing and much to the shock and horror of the Baudelaires, he did exactly that!
"What did you do to him?!" A frightened Violet demanded.
"I implanted a mind control gas that I've been working on for the last several years into him." Melina explained as the pig struggled to breathe.
Sunny began to cry in Violet's arms as Klaus demanded "Stop it!"
With that, Melina turned to her pig and ordered it to breathe again.
As Melina ordered the now breathing pig to leave the room, a horrified Violet uttered "Is that what the Red Room used on Yelena and the other girls?"
And with that, Violet quickly left the room, carrying Sunny with her, with Klaus following her shortly after and leaving behind an upset Melina who didn't even have a chance to explain.
Sometime later, Violet, Klaus and Sunny were napping in a spare room when the sound of the door banging open woke them up. Violet and Klaus quickly got up and made their way towards Sunny, who had been sleeping on a nearby couch before she had been woken up by the noise as well. However, just before they could reach their little sister, gas soon filled the room and all 3 Baudelaires passed out. When Violet, Klaus and Sunny woke up again, they found themselves on a helicopter with Natasha, Yelena and Alexi. All of them had their hands tied behind their backs and much to their shock and anger, Melina piloted the helicopter that was taking them to who knows where. The helicopter ride seemed to go on forever, until they reached a floating building in the sky.
Before either of one of the Baudelaires could ask what kind of building this was, a terrified Yelena uttered "It's the red room."
"Now you know how Drakov stayed off the grid for all these years." Melina remarked.
Then, as soon as the helicopter landed, Alexi, Natasha and the Baudelaires were taken to prison cells; while Yelena was taken somewhere else as Melina walked off to meet Drakov. It had taken everything the Baudelaires had not to scream and yell in fear during the whole ordeal, but once they saw Yelena being dragged off and Melina just walking away and not looking back, Violet just couldn't hold it in her anymore.
"Where are you taking her?!" She all but screamed and all she got into response was a hit to her head with a gun.
"Hey!" Both Alexi, Natasha and Klaus cried out at once.
This too, earned them all a hit to the head. Sunny bit one of the gunmen on his left hand, but that earned her a slap to the face! Violet, Klaus, Alexi and Natasha could only cry out in outrage as they were forced into the prison cells. Once the guards were gone, Violet did her best to comfort the crying, Sunny.
Suddenly, Alexi began to sing "Bye, Bye Miss American Pie, drove my Chevy to the Levy, but the Levy was dry and good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye, singing "this will be the day that I die. This will be the day that I die."
Even though the fact that they all might be killed soon was still a huge possibility, Sunny stopped crying and began to calm down.
Then, Natasha suddenly spoke with Melina's voice as she said, "Is this really the right time to be singing Yelena's song?"
All 3 of the Baudelaire's jaws dropped alongside Alexi's as Natasha pulled back her face and revealed it to be nothing more than a mask for Melina!
"What's going…?" was all Violet began to say when Melina interrupted with "I'm sorry, but I couldn't tell you and neither could Natasha. We had to make the switch as convincing as possible so that Natasha could face Drakov and discover his plan."
When she finished speaking, Klaus replied "Okay, but how do we get out of help and help Natasha and Yelena?"
At his words, Violet began to tie her hair back with a ribbon as Melina answered, "Don't worry, I know the code."
"But can the door be opened from the inside?" Klaus asked.
"Let me." Was all Alexi said before he punched his door open.
At once, the alarm went off and several soldiers came running into the room.
As Alexi began to fight and punch them, Melina was able to get out of her prison thanks to Alexi smashing the door down with the body of a soldier before he did the same for the Baudelaires.
Once he knocked out all of the soldiers, Alexi called out "This way!"
Soon after, they followed him down the hallway and just as more of the Widows came after them.
"Come with me!" Melina suddenly ordered.
She didn't even have to ask twice for the Baudelaires to hurry after her into a hidden room. Alexi soon followed after. As soon as he joined them, Violet asked "How are we going to help Natasha and Yelena?"
Melina smiled as she answered, "I have that covered."
And with that, she touched a hidden earpiece and whispered "Yelena, it's me. It's Mama. You have a two-inch blade concealed in your beltline."
Violet, Klaus and Sunny were shocked for a moment, before Sunny uttered, "Re go." Which meant "Of course, you guys would have an earpiece and a plan. You guys are spies."
Then, Melina redirected their attention to the machines in the building before she added "If everything goes according to plan, Natasha should take down Drakov, free the other widows and destroy the Red Room for good."
"How is she going to do that?" Klaus asked before he mentally slapped himself before he added "Of course, she's an Avenger."
With that, Melina, Alexi and the Baudelaires went to work on bringing down the building. Then, once Natasha told Melina through her earpiece that she freed the other widows and erased off of Drakov's data, Melina turned to the rest of the group and said "Now."
With that, she shut off the power grid and quickly ushered the group to the main entrance. She soon hurried them towards a spare helicopter and as they hurried inside it, all they could do now was hope that Natasha and Yelena could make it in time. Sadly, that wasn't the case, and they were forced to take off without them. Thankfully, they were joined by the rest of the newly freed Widows and when they landed, they had discovered that Yelena was able to get a parachute and land safely. Natasha had somehow survived the fall and had even freed a Widow that they missed. Just as they were about to leave, everyone noticed that the American army was approaching them.
Natasha turned to Alexi, Melina and Yelena and said "You guys go ahead. I'll hold them off and put the kids in their care."
This made the Baudelaires look at Natasha in shock as Klaus asked, "But why?"
Natasha gave the Baudelaires a sad smile as she answered, "Because I'm still a fugitive and a life of consistently being on the run isn't a good life for a child and neither is training one to be a killer."
Alexi and Melina looked guilty at her words and Yelena nodded her head in agreement as she added "Natasha and I want you guys to have the life that we couldn't."
Yelena, Alexi and Melina quickly gave the Baudelaires a hug as Yelena continued "No matter what, you guys will always be family to me."
With that, Yelena hurried onto the helicopter with the rest of the group as Natasha and the Baudelaires watched as it took off and flew away. Soon after, the army caught up to them and Natasha seemly turned herself in exchange for the army finding a good home for the Baudelaires.
After Natasha walked off with several soldiers, the General approached the Baudelaires and gave them an odd look as he inquired "Have we met?"
Neither of the Baudelaires knew how to answer that. He did look familiar to them as well, but they were sure that they had never met him until today.
Violet decided to answer for herself and younger siblings with "No, but maybe you just have one of those faces."
The General didn't know how to answer that. However, before he and the Baudelaires could continue to ponder the matter, one of the soldiers came running over to him with "Sir, Natasha has escaped."
This made the General mad as he ordered the soldiers to track down and find Natasha at once.
As the General began to bark orders at his men, the Baudelaires knew that they would never be able to catch Natasha.
What do you think?
