Author's Note: Ok so this is like a writing prompt. A long one. It is pretty much a combination of Luigi's Mansion 1 and 2 with a hint of Super Paper Mario Bros. The story is pretty much straight mind to paper so very little future planning. I hope to finish but we will see. I hope you enjoy it.

End of Author's Note

It was just the usual, unusual day in the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario and Luigi were still getting used to all the new and interesting things the kingdom had to offer. Whether it be how to get money, the common everyday jobs, or even just the streets, it was all a new experience. But the biggest thing the brothers had to get used to was the attention.

"Mario thank you so much for saving us!" one toad man said.

"You're so great Mario!" another one added.

"You're so cool!"

"You're our hero!"

Mario continued to hear all this and he was enjoying it. "You're welcome but I couldn't have done it without your princess and my brother." Luigi blushed at his brother's comment but to his surprise, no one really took notice of him. All he heard was…

"Princess Peach is the best!"

"She was so brave!"

"Not as brave as Mario."

"No one can match those two."

Luigi was feeling a little down when he continued to hear all this and Mario took notice. "I did say my brother also helped."

The toads turned to Luigi and gave him a blank look. No one was even able to recall his name.

"Oh, green Mario helped?" One very bold toad asked.

"He saved my life and helped defeat Bowzer!" Mario answered.

"Then where was he during the whole adventure you went on with Peach?" Another one asked.

"Oh…well…" Mario couldn't really answer with 'he was trapped in Bowser's castle the whole time and I had to rescue him from the lava pit during the wedding.' Instead, he said, "...he was doing his own thing."

The toads were not impressed. "Lame." one yelled.

With that, the crowd began to compliment and bombard Mario with praise. Luigi, feeling left out and undeserved, walked away leaving his brother trapped in the crowd. Even when Mario was surrounded he was still worried about his brother.

Luigi just made it back home and he was exhausted. It was a long day in more ways than one and he just didn't have the energy to do anything. He just went up to his room and went to bed. He tried to relax but he was still restless.

Though it was true he helped Mario in the end but before that, he was nothing but a burden. He knew this but he didn't want to accept it. It was because of him they were warped to the Mushroom Kingdom. It was because of him Mario was put in danger to go and rescue him. It was because of him their world literally changed. For Mario, it was for the better. For Luigi, it was for the worse.

Now Luigi felt even more inferior to his amazing brother. He was proud to have a wonderful, strong, and caring brother but because he was so good at everything he felt left behind by Mario's greatness. He wasn't brave, or skilled, or anything. He wasn't even the best plumber since it was also because of him that their first job ended so badly. He just felt like he was useless.

Just when he started to cry he heard a knock at his door. Shortly after his brother walked in with a plate full of spaghetti. Luigi got up and looked at his brother still with tears forming in his eyes. He tried to whip them away before Mario noticed but it didn't work.

"Hey, it's ok. Don't worry about what all those idiots say. You were a huge help to me."
Luigi wasn't so sure. All he thought was that Mario was only trying to cheer him up.

"It's fine Mario. They are right. I mean I was captured or hiding for the most part. I probably wasn't even needed in the final battle."

"Being the one to fight Bowser one to one I can say for certainty I needed you. That star may have helped but it was because we were together we got to it and saved the day. If you were not there I would have never been able to defeat him. Without you, this whole kingdom would be in ruin and I would be gone."

Luige heard his brother and was a bit happy by his words but it still wasn't enough. "Doesn't change the fact I was no help before and am just a coward that makes trouble."

"Luigi," Mario said with a lot of concern for his brother.

"I am tired. Let's talk tomorrow." Luigi said, ignoring the spaghetti and going back under the covers of his bed.

Mario couldn't do anything now. All he could do was walk away, shut the door, and leave his brother alone for now. He hoped Luigi would cheer up soon because it was very true. they are better as a team and nothing would change his mind on that fact.
