Care to Walk Away
Leaving hurt.
And a part of her wanted to stay, not because of Bill Townsend, but for Kyle instead.
She'd grown to love the boy and feel like she belonged, and something told her that she made him feel like he belonged and wasn't actually invisible. Which, given the attention Bill would lavish on his oldest Ty, the child who got involved in baseball, always going to games while never going to any of Kyle's theater productions—
Yet, that was why she needed to leave, her deciding factor. Initially, she planned on signing both her and Bill's names to the card, staying with the man, and putting up with his lack of effort with her and their baby that would be coming, notably when Kyle showed up with Legs, his childhood comfort toy.
But then Bill left, which resulted in her making up her mind. " I can 't stand by watching him do this to someone I care about, but he'll do the same to Peanut. "
Leaving hurt, as did saying goodbye, but there was no way Bill would even begin to notice Kyle while she was still there; her leaving might make a difference for the boy regarding his relationship with his father.
Or not.
She could only hope that in the hurt she felt, she might finally manage to elevate the pain and do the right thing.
