Making her way into the Hell House, she was greeted by some of the mercenaries before she finally found Weasel at the bar, waving her over when she made her way over to him.
"It's about damn time, I was worried I'd have to go get you."
"Sorry."
"I must admit though…I am surprised you didn't stay. Sounded like they really missed you." Weasel admitted.
"I would've, believe me, I was tempted. I just…I didn't want to stay because of some obligation that they feel for me." Desi confessed.
"What do you mean?"
"I…felt a lot of guilt when I was there; especially when I came into the room. The missions were fun also, but it was a lot of me staying back; Deadpool doesn't coddle me like that," Desi said, "It was nice, don't get me wrong, but I want them to want me by choice-not for guilt."
"I get that, kid, I really do," Weasel told them, "But remember how they remembered you. They need to adapt to the new you, and your new style. Besides, I'm sure your little wolf isn't trying to bone you out of guilt."
"Okay, okay, enough. Can I have the first job?" Desi asked, offering her hand but he slapped it away.
"Before I give It you, we need to go somewhere first." Weasel said before nodding his head towards the back.
"Dopinder, look after the bar until I get back; I don't want to come back to a shit hole!" Weasel shouted.
"I will not fail you! This is my moment to shine!" Desi giggled when she saw the excitement on Dopinder's face, not realizing he worked here now.
"Best not!"
….?...
Following close behind Weasel, he took her to an apartment complex in Queens and walked inside with her where she walked in with a three-seat sofa with a flat screen on the wall, living room and kitchen decorated. It had a balcony with tinted windows for hers with hardwood floors and saw the open space; she felt so alone yet so elated to explore.
"This is your new apartment, it's all yours." Weasel told her. She looked over to him in surprise, but he smirked.
"Listen kid, we appreciate all the hard work you've done and well, Wade and I saved your money to get this for you. Of course, the money Tony paid helped pay for this a whole year in advance for you. Doesn't mean you slack off, you hear me?" Weasel explained but she pulled him into a hug.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Desi said, and Weasel patted her back.
"Alright kid, you know how I feel about affection," he said, "but seriously, there's like four bedrooms here. Don't go crazy, okay?"
"I will, thank you!"
"Here, one last thing," Weasel said, handing her a cash card, "this is some extra money; buy any furniture you want, okay?"
"Really?"
"Yes, really. Just…don't go crazy, okay?"
"I will, thank you. Which reminds me, can I order a few extra suits from this job?" Desi asked.
"Done, let me know when the job is done."
"Will do."
….?...
Over the next few days, Desi took care of her jobs in stride. She finally had caught up with everything but at the end of the day, she had only one job left, and she was still without any feature. She had her phone on her counter and flipped it open to see the variety of voice messages.
"Hey Tiny, we haven't heard from you, just wanted to check in on you. It's been a week, so if you can check in. You should hear Bucky right now; I swear he won't stop talking about you."
"Is that her? Let me talk to her."
"No Barnes, it's a voicemail."
The voice mail ended and the next one played,
"Hey it's me, Buck. I'm just calling to see how you are. You haven't come by the compound in a few days…is everything okay? I'm…just missing the sound of your voice, doll. If you don't call me back soon, I'm coming to find you. And you know I'm a man of my word."
Desi took a hard swallow, looking down at her phone for a hot second before the last voicemail came through.
"Hey, it's me, Rogers. I know you're a busy girl, but the team is starting to get worried. There's been reports of you in town and we've seen you in bad shape. Just…call us back, yeah? I'm giving you 24 hours before I come for you myself."
The call had ended, and Desi sighed heavily. She wanted to call them back, assure them that she was fine, but she would send them personal texts instead.
'I'm fine, I promise. Thank you.'
Desi saw her phone light up immediately light up with Bucky's name across the screen, but she ignored the call; she needed one last mission to do this week.
….?...
Desi had arrived at the club in her body suit with her hair loose around her, her new mask in place. It was getting ridiculous for her to keep struggling to put the piece on, and it was cheaper for Weasel to replace this; it was just enough. She walked in the crowd, looking for her target when she found him.
Mid 40's, Caucasian, funny looking mustache? Check, check, and double check. His face matched the picture in the file, and she made her way to him.
"Marcus?" Desi called him out.
The chubby man looked over to her and his smile dropped, panic filled his face before he took off running. Desi sighed heavily before running after him out of the club.
"Marcus, stop! Don't run!" Desi shouted as he entered the car, driving off.
Desi swore but she got on her bike, chasing after him.
The man drove feverishly, looking back periodically before he floored it, taking off into the traffic. He lost track of the woman, Archangel. She was mentored by Deadpool and had ventured on her own now. He should've expected her sooner, but he needed to get his dog; leave town-
He grunted out in pain as he was suddenly pulled back, a metal pole along his throat as he felt something on his back.
"Don't move!" Desi yelled, using the ropes to tie him to the chair he fell back on, securing him before she pulled out her phone.
She realized her error when she saw Bucky's name and swore to herself as if she had no choice but to answer.
"Heeeeey! How's it going? Listen, right now's not a good time-"
"Stay where you are."
"Huh?"
The call dropped, and she looked down at in confusion, but looked back at the man before she made another call as she noticed a small light tan Shi-tzu walking towards her.
"Hey, I secured Marcus. He's at his home address." Desi stated.
"Reporting to the dealer now, secure him and go." Weasel ordered before ending the call. Desi sighed as the Shi-tzu barked at her, his tail wagging at her before he playfully jumped on her leg.
"Chewy, back away from that bitch!" The man yelled but Desi ignored him when the door opened behind her.
Bucky had finally found her, tired of waiting for her and found her himself, and realized she was on a mission based on the suit she wore.
"You bitch, I will fucking cut you when I get-" Desi threw a nearby soda can, hearing him yelp in surprise.
"I had told you NOT TO RUN!" Desi exclaimed, reminding him as Bucky approached her.
He grabbed her arm gently, catching her attention as he looked over her in concern for any injuries.
"Are you okay, doll?" Bucky asked, and she nodded with a grateful smile.
"Yes, thanks. I'm sorry I didn't call. I swear I was going to call tomorrow." Desi swore, but he smirked at her answer.
"I'm glad. What do you need to do?" Buck asked.
"I just need to secure him and go." Desi said as she patted the dog, rolling over on his stomach.
"Oh, do you want a belly rub?" Desi questioned in a baby voice, rubbing his tummy.
"I'll get him for you." Bucky told her, squeezing her arm before he approached the man. He untied the man and pushed him up against the column behind him, tying him up as the man thrashed fruitlessly against him.
"What about the dog?" Desi asked as she lifted Chewy, receiving loving licks from the pup.
"Leave my dog here, you bitch! He stays with me!" The man exclaimed.
"Oh, I didn't realize they accepted dogs wherever you're going." Desi told him when Bucky approached her.
"Do you want to take him to the shelter?" Bucky suggested, and Desi nodded with a soft smile.
"Please? Thank you." Desi said, feeling Bucky's hand on her lower back before they left the building.
Desi was surprised to say the least when she saw Steve's truck and looked over to Bucky suspiciously.
"Come." Bucky whispered, opening the door for her before he got into the truck with her.
Taking off to the nearest shelter, the duo drove in silence until Bucky cleared his throat.
"Is this what you've been doing all this time?" Bucky asked her, wanting an explanation.
"Yeah, I told you I had jobs lined up, remember?" Desi kindly reminded him.
"I know." Bucky stated, but Desi could feel the conflict coming from him; he was worried.
Arriving to the shelter, Bucky helped her out of the truck as Desi quickly removed her eye mask and entered the place, where two men welcomed them in.
"Welcome, are you looking to adopt?" the male receptionist asked, but Desi shook her head with a frown.
"No actually, I wanted to drop him off. His owner could no longer take care of him, so I'm just helping turn him in." Desi answered.
As if the dog knew, the pup whined, licking her face as he snuggled into her. Desi pouted, feeling guilty for putting the pup in this situation but she didn't know what else to do. Bucky noticed the way she snuggled into the pup as it snuggled into her, and he knew she was going to struggle here.
"We'd be happy to take him but please know…we aren't humane. That means if he's not adapted in two weeks' time, we will euthanize him." The second male worker stated.
Chewy whined and Bucky saw the conflict in her eyes, biting her lower lip as she thought of him dying over something he had no control over.
"…W-What if I wanted to try keeping him?" Desi asked, and their faces lit up, Bucky smirking at the kindness she was showing.
"We'd be happy to check him for you. Chip him, make sure he's up to date on his shots, and you can take him home. If things don't work out, you can bring him here." The receptionist offered.
"Okay, thank you." Desi said before kissing the puppy, who went happily with the worker as he took him to the back.
"In the meantime, the supplies are along the wall if you need anything. We'll be happy to charge you as we wait for him to come back," the man said before he gave her a clipboard with a chained pen, "if you'd please fill this out."
"Thanks." Desi whispered before she took it from him, sitting at the tables with Bucky following her.
Filling out the sheets, she was walking towards the receptionist when she saw a single dog in the glass space, he was in. It was a German Shepard with the EUTHANIZE sign above him and her heart dropped.
"You're killing him?" Desi asked, pointing to the dog as she looked at the receptionist.
"Oh, Chip? Yeah, he's been here two weeks with no one interested in him. He's been put down in the morning." The receptionist told her as he took her paperwork.
"C-Can I see him?" Desi asked, but Bucky grabbed her arm.
"You're going to adapt the whole place if you're not careful." Bucky warned her, and she frowned with a simple nod.
"Sure, wait here." The man said before he went for Chip.
Desi had waited patiently when she heard a bark, and Bucky stood close to her as a precaution as the German Shepard approached them. The dog cautiously approached her sniffing around her and Bucky before he kneeled in front of the duo, offering his paw.
"You should check with Chewy how he reacts to him." Bucky told her, watching her as she played with Chip before he laid down, resting his head on her lap.
Desi looked up with an 'aww' expression on her face and he smirked, she looked adorable in that moment.
"He'll learn to adjust."
…..?...
Bucky had taken her phone when she tried to call Weasel, and reluctantly accepted Bucky's help to take her home. Allowing the dogs into the apartment first, Bucky helped her bring the items in when he saw her new living arrangement. IT looked very put together, but he saw his jacket on the table, making him smile.
"Big place."
"Yeah, it is." Desi stated as she placed the dog beds in the living room. For a good while, she set up the apartment with their own food and bowl trays, their own trays of fake grass for their bathroom spots on the balcony. When it was all over, she found that her new dogs were on the sofa asleep and couldn't help but chuckle at the sight.
"Thank you, Buck." Desi said with a smile as she walked into the kitchen.
He had plopped himself at the counter with a beer in his hand, looks like he made himself at home already. He stayed silent for a moment, and she contemplated for a moment if he was mad at her, but he didn't seem upset.
"Are there any other missions you have to take on?" Buck asked but she shook her head.
"Nope, I'm free for the rest of the night." Desi assured him, but was surprised when he stood up, walking over to her casually.
Bucky took her hands into his, noticing she was still wearing her gloves when they first met.
"You still need these?"
"Yeah…" Desi said softly but Bucky looked around the apartment one last time.
"Where's your bedroom?" he asked but she bit her lower lip.
"It's one of those…I haven't exactly slept in them yet." She confessed.
Bucky clenched his jaw before he took the initiative, lifting her in a bridal style as she let out a squeal by his sudden motion. He picked the larger looking room and saw a large California king bed in the center of the room and pushed all the decorative pillows off.
He then helped pull the comforter back a bit before he laid her down, allowing her to pull it over herself. Bucky didn't bother to ask her as he pushed himself into the bed, allowing her scoot over for him as he pulled her close to him.
With her head against his shoulder, she found herself able to sleep around him and although she didn't care to admit it to him, he made her feel safe.
"Stay with me?" she asked softly.
"Go ahead, I'm not going anywhere doll." HE said sadly, pushing her hair back from her face as sleep overtook her.
….?...
When morning came, Desi went running into the nearby bodega, Del-Mar, as Bucky slept in. She was waiting on the variety of breakfast items she ordered when she heard the comment,
"His aunt is very…. attractive."
Desi looked over, hearing the men chuckling at the comment, but Desi absolutely livid. The young kid looked uncomfortable but was also fighting back to say something; she didn't mind intervening for him.
"No me apresuraria a hacer ese comentario, dulzura."
The man gave her an upset look, the young man looking over to her in surprise, but Desi had had taking out $200 out of her pocket and placed it on the counter.
"This should cover my tab, and his. Please be thoughtful with your words and your customer." Desi said with a big smile before she took her bags of food, walking out of the bodega she'd never be able to visit again.
"Oh, excuse me!"
Desi looked over her shoulder to see the kid approach her, smiling gratefully to her.
"Hi, I just wanted to say thank you so much back there; you didn't have to do that for me. But still, I appreciated it." The kid stated.
"Not a problem, kid…is he mad?"
"Oh, he's fuming."
Desi chuckled, the kid laughing as well.
"You look familiar…" he whispered before he finally gasped, "Oh my gosh, are you Archangel?"
"You recognize me?"
"Yes, wow! I just, I've seen videos of you and you're just amazing." Peter exclaimed.
"Thanks, I'm Destiny." Desi introduced herself, waving her gloved hand.
"My name's Peter Parker."
"Well, Peter Parker, I have to head out, but you stay safe, okay?" Desi said with a kind smile before she walked away.
Peter was at a loss, most people just ignored him or treated him as if he was some type of child, but she was kind to him. He was suddenly worried if she'd be okay alone, but he had to go to school.
"Uh, Miss Destiny?" He called out as he caught up with her.
"Yeah, Peter?"
"Here," he scrambled to take out his notebook, scribbling down a paper before he handed it to her, "this is my number. Call me if you, uhh, need me for anything." Peter said sheepishly; what could a teenager do for her anyways?
Desi smiled, and took his pen, writing the number she memorized last night, "This is my cell. Call me if you need help with anything you don't want your aunt to find out about, okay? Or if you're in trouble."
Peter smiled and nodded, "Okay, thanks! See you!"
"See you!"
