Subaru's eyes opened as he felt power surging within him. He instantly understood and knew how his power worked. He first tried out Greed's Bond, which allowed him to sense the emotions or physical condition of someone he felt a bond with and either amplified or lessened the effect. The only person he could even use it on was Emilia. He activated Greed's Bond and felt sadness and confusion, but her physical condition was normal. He used his power to give Emilia a sense of happiness and contempt that would last temporarily as he wondered when he would be able to see her again. The final checkpoint he'd ever have seemed to be an hour or two in the past. He needed to leave as if he stayed and was within Pandora's domain. He would become her puppet. Footsteps could be heard walking down the stairs to his barred cell. He was preparing to leave but saw it was Reinhard and needed to ask why he seemed unaffected by Pandora's authority.

Reinhard stared at Subaru and sensed he was stronger, "...Subaru, I need to talk to you."

"You… remember my name? How?" Subaru asked with both a sense of relief but also confusion, wondering if he was aware the entire time.

Reinhard looked down, "Od Laguna gave me every book of the dead you possessed. I did not ask for it, and I apologize for intruding on your life."

Subaru eye's widened, "You… know about return by death?"

"I do… and I'm sorry." Reinhard stared down as he complicated the hell Subaru had gone through.

Subaru paused, "I'm sorry you had to see that. That cursed power is given to me by Satella… yet failed to save me from this nightmare I'm living now."

Reinhard walked towards the bars with his bare hands and removed them, "The entire Sage Council and most Royal Selection candidates and members are under the effects of Pandora's authority."

Subaru almost laughed when he heard Reinhard say authority, "Yes, I'm aware. I no longer have return by death either. But I have new powers instead. My job and to fulfill my agreement is to kill Pandora."

"She's a threat to the entire Kingdom. No one knows that Od Laguna can communicate with me, but since I intruded on your life, I only feel you should know at least that."

Subaru walked out of his cell, "If we were at any different time, I would be telling you about everything… the power did not allow me to tell others. Currently, the two of us, and from what I can tell, Emilia is not affected by her authority yet, which doesn't make sense. Her goal is to manipulate her to open a seal within Elior Forest."

Reinhard spoke emotionlessly, "I was already told to kill her… but there is another person whom not even the soul of the world can identify that can also open the seal."

Subaru agonized, "Kill Emilia? Don't say she's the only reason I'm still sane." Subaru warned, "I'm the only person that even knows or can kill Pandora in the first place. I don't know her goal or what's within the seal but… I don't even know how to respond."

"I'm sorry, Subaru. I was attempting to tell you I won't." Reinhard mumbled, "One person is responsible for everything that happened. You lost your identity, and everything thinks you are a Witch Cultist."

Subaru admitted, "I already gave up my old identity. There isn't any coming back if people learned what they did to me, then it would hurt them more. My memories have been lies. My power to save people failed me when I needed it most. I have no desire for redemption anymore."

"Subaru what? Why give up on the life you made… after suffering so much?"

"I suffered to protect the people I cared for. What's the point in doing what I did to make them suffer and learn the truth… it's not something I can do anything about, so I'll accept it."

"Subaru are-"

"Reinhard, if there is a way to reverse things without hurting them in the process, I would." Subaru's voice went shallow, "But that wishful thinking is what got me here. I died so many times trying to help or save others, and now if I die again, it'll be over. If I can leave knowing everyone I cared for is fine, that's a good ending for me."

Reinhard went silent after seeing Subaru's life, dying countless times and gaining power from Satella. He couldn't think of any response. He felt terrible knowing he was from beyond the great waterfall just to come to a new world and suffer. He remembered his first interaction with Subaru and thought of his first time entering the world he was brought into. Joy and happiness for a new start in life just to learn that it would be suffering and loneliness.

"If that's your path, I can't stop you. If you are certain that you can kill Pandora, you should wait at the seal within Elior Forest. I will monitor the Kingdom as I don't know if she is interested in furthering the damage already done. The Sage Council and all Royal Selection candidates and camps think you are dead."

"Does Emilia think I'm dead?"

"That was the only thing I could say to avoid chaos. As for Emilia, she seemed confused, but I don't think she remembers you. Gluttony ate your name, and Pandora altered the memories of most people that knew you."

"Reinhard, how do you know your memories aren't altered?"

"I killed myself, then used divine protection to come back. Od Laguna then transferred the book of the dead to my memories, and there weren't any alterations."

"Alright, I'll head to Elior Forest then. Is there anything else I should be aware of?"

"Not that I haven't mentioned."

Subaru nodded, "Alright, I'll head to Elior Forest right now. If anything changes, you know where I'll be."

Reinhard's eyes were empty as he unacknowledged what Subaru said and left. Subaru started to process the information he received. Something felt wrong, but he wasn't sure what. Reinhard's method for learning his identity did make sense, but something still felt off. He tried to think of someone he could trust that Pandora's authority wouldn't influence, and the only person that came to mind was Roswaal. He wasn't there and is four hundred years old, so he probably knows what's happening. The only way to know would be by confronting him.

He used his second power of True Greed, which allowed him to take any ability that someone possessed, excluding divine protections or authorities. It also had limits on how often he could use it, but he needed a way to move quickly, so he chose Roswaal's ability to fly. He walked up the stairs where he saw the sky and started to ascend into the clouds moving much quicker than he ever saw Roswaal when he used his magic to fly.

Subaru reached an altitude where he could see the Capital, Roswaal's mansion, and other landmarks. He needed to find a way to confront Roswaal without entering the mansion himself. He thought of some signal only Roswaal knew of or somewhere he would go if he knew what happened. He used Greed's Bond again with Emilia to read her thoughts and emotions.

'Who is he? My memory of that person that I loved. Why did I forget? I want to remember him again. Everyone is acting so strange… Roswaal is gone. I just want to remember who saved me so many times. Every time I think about it hurts my head. Everything is falling apart, and nobody is the same. Who was he? I miss this person so much I don't know what to do.'

Subaru shed a tear thinking of Emilia in her room, not understanding anything happening. Roswaal was gone, which either meant he left to go somewhere else, or maybe Pandora affected him too. He couldn't stand that thought ringing through his head as he realized Emilia loved him. His head rang after hearing Emilia's confession to a person she forgot was him. If he wanted to restore her memories, he would need to gain the authority of Gluttony. He could imagine Roswaal might know where Capella is, and possibly Roy would be there. But where would Roswaal go… did he lose hope? The only idea he had was the Sanctuary. He used Greed's Bond to monitor Emilia's physical condition as he began to descend to where Echidna's casket.

Subaru landed in the Sanctuary and approached the shrine as he began to prepare to leave if Roswaal was hostile. He could only assume that he wouldn't have left if Pandora had rewritten his memories. He should be like the rest and think Subaru is a Sin Archbishop. As he approached, he heard the sound of a shallow voice.

"Who was the person that would help me obtain my goal?"

"The looper, who was he? Teacher, I'm sorry I failed everything."

Subaru spoke, "The person who can redo events, right?"

Roswaal's eyes widened as he saw a raven-haired boy, "Are you the person?"

Subaru sighed, "Well, at least I know you're not affected by Pandora. Roswaal, I am that person, but I can't redo things anymore. I lost that power, and also, it was returning by death."

Roswaal recalled everything the Tome of Wisdom told him to do, and the only blank was the person that was the looper. From what he knew, he was around until recently. When his memories faded of his identity and Emilia's camp started to act strange, he left, assuming his plan was never to be completed. Now a raven-haired boy is speaking to him but telling him, he lost the power he needed. What was his purpose then? But when he started to process Pandora's mention, he could piece together what happened a bit easier. But if his power wasn't redoing or looping and he had to die, he forced him to die so many times. He felt guilt over his naivety.

Roswaal mumbled, "If you are that person and your power was returning by death… I put you through a never-ending nightmare. Why didn't you tell me? You were my hope and the only reason I kept myself alive this long. If you had told me, I would've done things differently."

"I couldn't tell you. I don't blame you Satella would crush my heart if I told anyone. Roswaal, I need your help. I need to obtain the authority of Gluttony to restore Emilia's memories. Pandora has the entire Sage Council, a large portion of the Royal Selection candidates, and possibly Reinhard under her control. I never thought I'd say this, but you're my best option now."

Roswaal made eye contact with Subaru, "Satella? If you lost your power, then how can you even defeat Pandora? Her power is unknown, and even I have no idea how to kill her."

"Well, now I have new abilities and know how to kill Pandora." Subaru began to levitate into the air, "This is something I stole from you. I needed to be able to fly. I now possess the full power of the authority of greed. Assuming my plan goes correctly, I can easily kill Pandora. It solely depends on if I can fool her or not. At this point, I'm certain you're not affected by her memory alteration, so if you help me, I can help you with whatever goal you were trying to achieve."

Roswaal stood up with a slight hope, "What was your name?"

"Subaru Natsuki, but that person can be dead at this point. The world rejected me, and my time here was for nothing. I couldn't function without using my authority and part of Regulus's soul to keep myself sane."

Roswaal's face saddened, "I remember trying to convenience someone that sacrifice was necessary, which were you. From what I remember, you said you'd save everyone and have a happy ending."

"Sacrifice myself is enough. The entire Emilia camp, except for Emilia, is most likely under the influence of Pandora's memory alteration. I have no idea why she didn't alter Emilia's memories, but I know I played some role in her plan. I guess she'll use me as bait to force Emilia to open the seal in Elior Forest. I need to obtain the authority of Gluttony quickly, or well, I don't know how much longer Emilia can make it. Her mind is as lost as yours was."

Roswaal smiled as he saw Subaru still cared for someone, "Subaru-kunn I do know a possible location where Capella would be. Moreee than likely, we can obtain some information or at the very least learn somethingggg that can help."

Subaru laughed, "Well, Roswaal, your back to normal. It was weird hearing you speak normally. If you know, then we should leave now. I need to help Emilia before it's too late."

Roswaal and Subaru left the shrine as Roswaal directed Subaru to where he suspected Capella was or nearby. He had no idea how Subaru was flying without using mana, but it did make the trip to Gusteko faster.

"Subaru-kunnn if what you are saying is true, we must fight the Sword Saintttt. Do you have a plannn for that?"

"I rather not use it on him, but yes. Reinhard is practically invisible, but his mind isn't. I'm pretty sure if he spent one thousand years in a false reality of whatever he fears most, it would break his mind."

"If I mayyy how did you obtain this power?"

"Regulus Corneas. When Pandora turned everyone against me, I hated Satella, Pandora, and the entire Witch Cult. I was sent to this reality that Satella resided within my soul during death. Her miasma was seductive and previous times I went there, I would be controlled by it, but my hatred was able to break the bounds of her control. Regulus then formed an agreement with me, and now my authority of greed is much more powerful.
Roswaal didn't even try to understand what Subaru said, but he did find something interesting, "Theyy says that envy and greed are often interchangeable. Yourrrr power may be the same as the Witch of Envy. I doooo remember the person you are. I thought to be a Sage candidate, but it seems that is no longerrr the case."

Subaru remembered Regulus bringing up the Sage, "What's the relationship between the Sage and Satella? Regulus said that Satella was in her delusion caused by the Sage."

"The Sage prioritized oneeee above all. The previous Sage was a man named Flugel, and from what Echidna told meee it seemed that Flugel's inaction led to the Great Calamity."

"How was I a Sage candidate? I hate Satella and the witches and the Witch Cult."

"You probably wereeee a Sage candidate and no longer are. Whatever changed caused you to completely diverge fromm that path. You alsoooo may have chosen a different path than the previous Sage. As you have proven, fateeee is not set in stone."

Subaru sighed as the two descended towards a building within Guestko. It was near a mountain with a village nearby, and the large home was separated from the village. Subaru and Roswaal landed. Subaru walked towards the building and opened the door as Roswaal stayed in the distance, ready to use a magical attack if needed. The room was dark as Subaru felt an attack phase right through him. Spatial Evasion allowed Subaru to phase through any physical attack, but he could not counter without rematerializing. As Roswaal noticed Subaru's ability, he cast Al Goa, destroying the building and allowing light to pass through. Two figures appeared, Capella and Roy.

Roy grinned, "Sin Archbishop, representing Gluttony, Roy Alphard."

"Greed's Burden."

Subaru sighed as he activated his most powerful technique. Greed's Burden, when used, would trap the person affected into an isolated dimension where time does not exist. No time or space. Trapping the person in a void without thought or sense of time or reality. As time functions differently than the real world, within a moment, the person affected would cease the capability to think as their neurons would fire randomly, causing organ failure and then death. The only drawback to this ability is that it can easily be countered if the opponent can move faster than sound as it's initiated by hearing the command.

While Subaru was watching how potent his authority was, Capella was fighting Roswaal in the sky. Subaru activated True Bond which worked, being the second person Subaru could feel he had a bond with. He watched in the sky as Capella seemed to be getting the upper hand as she continued to get burned and reform. Subaru knew his techniques wouldn't be effective against Capella since she was moving faster than the speed of sound.

Subaru used True Bond to tell Roswaal his thoughts, 'Use the strongest fire attack you can. I will restore your mana.'

Roswaal formed six Al Goa's within his hand. As Subaru could see, that was the last attack. He used True Bond to restore Roswaal's mana reserves as he collapsed to the ground in exhaustion. He never tried using the ability like that and had a broken gate fearing that he may die due to his action. His vision became hazy, and he fell to the ground.

Subaru opened his eyes, and he was in the landscape that Regulus had made. The previous Shadow Garden was now a city rivaling the size of the Capital of Lugunica. Subaru laughed at what he saw as he wondered how he got to this place. He walked up towards a castle he assumed Regulus would be in and opened the door to see him with a bored expression.

"Subaru, that dumb bitch. Satella left her memories or something. It violated my rights. Then Capella and Roy showed up, and I kicked them out. They are in a jail I created. How dare she, that disgusting bitch Capella. She tried to kill me while I was having a wedding ceremony. Now she can enjoy the rest of her days in the jail I made. I used your 'Greed's Burden', but her soul can't die here. I do commend you for creating such a function of your authority."

"Wait, what? She left her memories?"

"YES, and it was a violation of my rights yet again. What is happening right now is Od Laguna, who Flugel, the narcissistic, created, doesn't like you. It pains me to see how foolish some can be. He viewed himself as a god and created a system to perform a specific function. I do not view myself with such high regard as I am humble and do not need such titles to be powerful. Now I'm angry, and you'll have to kill another person. I can gather that Pandora follows Flugel's instructions, that disgraceful, pitiful man. Can one not accept death? Must one create a system to rule over the world when one dies? I, Regulus Corneas, will end the repetition that Flugel has created. Pandora must die. Flugel's soul must be separated from Od Laguna; thus, we will add him to the Greed's Burden jail. Subaru creates an ability that can destroy the mind itself while leaving the soul intact. This is what we will use to deal with these disgusting people. As well, I healed your gate, so you didn't die."

"Thank you. But Satella is not on the list?"

"I, as a man who has had many wives and given them a home and a place they can be safe, understand that it is the man's role to guide the woman to success. You do not rely on the woman. You are the kind and gentle man that helps them. However, Flugel was not any of those things. He was a reliant, pitiful, self-serving man who believed himself to be a god. Yet I do not, and I could've killed him within a few moments rather a moment. Subaru, since I can see if you can understand, comprehend and accept the information, I thus require you to accept what I shall share."

"Sure, I won't be surprised about anything now."

"The witch factors except Greed were all engineered by Flugel. His goal was one I would call both lustful and disturbing. Thus I do not blame Satella as Flugel's obsessive disorder influenced her. She did destroy half of the world, but I do not care about such pitiful things as long as it does not affect me. It is normal to have good and bad things happen. Destruction and creation it's a simple cycle. Yet even you, before you understood, thought that you could save everyone from everything. It is a toxic, irrational, and foolish thing to believe. Od Laguna was created to serve as a single function for Flugel. How dare he. How dare he violate the rights of a woman without her consent. How much does one agree when their authority consumes them? That's the same as asking Petelgeuse if something is correct to do. How would he know? He wouldn't because his authority was incapable. That bitch Pandora just let it be as he was a co-founder. I was the strongest, and now we are the strongest both in the past and future. I no longer refer to myself as a 'Sin Archbishop' as it repulses me. Now I refer to myself by my name, I, Regulus Corneas. Nothing more is needed to be said. But Flugel planned for someone in the future compatible with all seven authorities, which would be YOU, to acquire all of them and, in turn, become him. In short, his goal was to reunite with Satella, WHO is still being controlled by her authority because it is INCOMPATIBLE, and I will not speak of such disturbing things as it violates my rights saying such things."

"So what do we do? What's the plan, Regulus?"

"I see that you are wise and intelligent for asking me such a question, as I already have devised a plan to kill Flugel and separate Satella's authority so she no longer has to be mangled by a concept with a soul. That being Od Laguna. I must say that your compatibility with Greed is intriguing even though I am the rightful owner since we do share the same soul are actions are shared. You manifested four abilities with a single authority. I believe your potential has not peaked yet, either. There is a straightforward way to kill Pandora, but I would prefer if you make it as agonizing as possible. I am not a vicious or violent man I believe justice is required. I built this city, and when you leave, I will create people to live in my world. How dare Flugel? Regardless of his actions, first, you must confront Reinhard and tell him that Od Laguna is lying to him. You were smart for not going to Elior Forest, which was a trap. However, I would've intervened if you were in danger. But I do not like doing such actions as your authority is developing rapidly without guidance. That is what it means to be powerful. The first Sword Saint Reid Astrea disgusts me. Groping woman, not understanding what marriage even is, how dare he? I know the past, and I do not like it. Thus I shall create a new future without the relics of the past, such as Od Laguna or witch factors that are altered to manifest Flugel. I have already fixed all authorities you hold. Once you hold all, Flugel's legacy of being an obsessive disease will be eradicated. Subaru, I would've never dared to do such an action, but seeing what I've witnessed, it must be corrected. Finally, to answer your question, Satella is no different from Petelgeuse. Emilia is half of her soul, and Satella has half of her pure soul. I assume her goal was to merge the two pure halves of her soul, but Flugel destroyed that by infecting authorities with his desire. As I stated previously, desire is what makes an authority powerful. Would you like to know what Flugel's was?"

"Pride…"

"YES. PRIDE. The first sin and the most dangerous as well. When you kill Aldebaran, I must rebuild the entire witch factor from scratch since it's essentially Flugel. To separate the soul of Flugel from Od Laguna and combine the souls of Satella and Emilia, you will need someone to do such a thing. Thus I am working on a method to project myself into the world using this reality holographically. Satella could possess Emilia, or rather the Witch of Envy could, but I do not need such methods as I can create something from your planet. I do feel I invaded your privacy, but it must be done to correct this world."

"I've had so many people invade my memories, but you told me and have a good reason to do so. I have no problem with that."

"Correct. Pandora has a self-termination command, and don't ask me why Flugel would even do that. But I feel that it is too easy to use such a method. She has the authority to control reality and Od Laguna. Torture her mind for the sins she committed. Once Flugel is dealt with, we shall go to another disgusting creation of Flugel, the Pleiades Watch Tower. I must say that the architectural design was pathetic. The entire tower could collapse at any moment. In your world, that was like 9/11 or something. Same thing. I also see that you seem that your life will end in a way I do not see correctly. Subaru, both you and I share one trait, particularly in common. We do not accept women being used when they cannot consent. I did not have sexual relations with any of my wives as I believe purity is important. Thus after your completion of killing Pandora, I require you to enjoy yourself before we continue to fix Flugel's mistakes. That is why Satella 'loved you' because you are a gentleman just the same as me. Emilia was half of her soul, and Satella contains another portion that is still pure. I will not allow Satella to be condemned to violation by Flugel, and since Emilia and Satella are the same souls, I do not see any issues in your regard. By this end, you will obtain all seven witch factors as I will personally destroy vainglory from existence entirely. Melancholy is unnecessary, nor do I care, so that can be left be. To give you a vision, I shall elaborate that you will save Satella and fix the world from Flugel's pride, and after that, you will complete your role in this world and can relax and live a peaceful life. Subaru felt a sense of direction and calmness after hearing Regulus's words. Even though it was a lot to take in, Regulus explained it in a way he could understand. He was both grateful and glad that they made their agreement, and he looked forward to the future he would enjoy.
