A young boy, about ten years old,sat in a hospital chair by a hospital bed.Hewatched his sick mother slowly breathe, knowing what was happening. He felt tears stinging in his eyes as he watched his mother take her last few breaths.

He looked up at her as she grabbed his hand."Chad please don't change who you are.I love you and I will always be here with you," hismother saidsoftly with a weak smile. "And make sure your father stays out of trouble," sheaddedas she held his hand.Chad slowly nodded, not able to doanything at the moment except cry as his mother's hand let go of his. When her last breath left her shaky body.

He heard a few of the doctors talking to his father about what they were going to do. "I promise mother," hechoked out. He jumped when he felt a hand on his shoulder, and lookedover toseethe doctor "It's time to say goodbye, my boy," hesaidsoftly, rubbing the boy's back for a bit, attemptingto comfort him.

Chad noddedslowly, standing up from his chair as he walked over to his mother's unmoving body and gave her one last kiss on her cheek. "I'll miss you mother," he saidwith a small smile before heading out of the room to see his father standing outside of the room leaning against the wall and staring at him. "Ready to go son?" he asked. Chad nodded, as he knew his father had already spoken to his wife.

Chad gave a small nod looking back at the room and seeing the Doctor cover his mother'sface with the blanket. His green eyes never left the scene 'til his father softly patted his shoulder. Chadknew he was only being nice since they were at the hospital and in the open. Both males left the hospital and went home.

After Chad's mother's death, his father ended up drinking more often, always yelling and shouting at everything including Chad. Heeither yelled at the boy but he didn't do more than that. Chad knewhis father was just doing it out of grief, sohejust lethim do it even though he was of the age to understand.

But a year late his father ended up becoming more and more abusive always ignoring his son to defend himself or even throwing something at him since he started to be rougher Chad didn't fight back knowing his mother wouldn't be happy about it, she always told him to use his strength to protect those in need.

Chad just took what his father wanted to do untilhe got tired of it and switched to something else Now all his father did was go out at night and go to clubs and sometimes never come home even though Chad was still under-aged but Chad knew how to take care of himself.
