Steve sat in a small coffee shop that he'd been going to since before he became Captain America. He looked out the window, waiting for the only other people in the world who could understand what he'd been through. Not his favorite people, maybe, but some things were too much to handle on your own. So Steve waited until, finally, James Howlett walked in. The man looked to be in extraordinarily good health, as usual. James sat across from him and nodded. They sat there quietly for a while, until Wade Wilson finally decided to show up.

"Well, it looks like the healy bois are all here." Wade chuckled. "I do love a good fanfiction, but come on. An ending? For us three? This just seems like a bit much. Also I object to the idea of me in a coffee shop. On general principles."

James and Steve just rolled their eyes as Wade sat down. James gave a bitter smile. "Well, I suppose it's just the three of us now… I guess we should've known. It was always going to happen like this. The only ones of our respective times. I'd reminisce, but I don't do sentiment. It's bad for my image."

Steve and Wade both seemed surprised. Steve spoke up first. "Huh… didn't expect you to be the one cracking jokes. But you are right. The past is the past. Looking back can only cause pain for us three. I'll say this, though, we led some exciting lives. After all, we became our own heroes, and we all found our own meaning for life. So I guess that's something, anyways."

Wade sighed and finally let down his guard and put away his wacky humor for once. "Yeah. It's something, alright. We all did our best to live by our own definition of honour and we had some good times along the way. But I think it's time we sat back and let someone else take our places. We may not look old or tired, but there's a kind of weariness that can't always be seen unless you know what it feels like yourself. I think it's time for me to finally give up the ghost. It's been over a hundred and fifteen years since I became Deadpool, and I know the two of you have been around much longer."

They all sat quietly for a while, sipping their coffee, thinking about times past. The three men who were the only ones that understood each other, in a way no others could. They'd been friends, enemies, and brothers at different points for a very long time. But somehow, they knew it was time to put the cowl and suit away, and get on with something else. This wasn't the last time they'd meet like this, but there was a sense of finality and closure that came along with Wade dropping his mask of humor and replacing it with something a bit more dignified.

Once they finished their coffee, James paid the bill and they all went their separate ways. Their days as heroes were over, but perhaps they could start new lives to begin helping the world move in the right direction.
